this was submitted as a one sentence horror story, but it feels like it could be an old jewish joke, like the one about the two rabbis proving g-d doesn't exist or the saying 'people plan, g-d laughs'
This is a thousand times better as a dry Jewish joke than it is as a fake-deep edgelord ‘horror’ story
Even more, it sounds like the beginning -- the set-up -- of the joke. Can’t you hear Carl Reiner opening a bit with this line, or Shalom Aleichem using it to kick off a story?
Well I'm not quite an old Jewish man just yet, but let me give it a shot...
Losing confidence in Himself, G-d became an atheist. He decided to go down to Earth, to walk among humans and see how they found meaning.
He wandered the world until he came to a town, where he happened upon a pastor. "Come to our church this Sunday!" said the pastor. But G-d shook his head. "I don't believe in G-d anymore," he told the pastor sullenly. "And besides, I really shouldn't be working weekends." . . .
hey captain-acab, this is the highest compliment i can bestow: it would not have surprised me had i found that story in a book of traditional fables in the shul library
Look, someone has to be the first to make up any traditional Jewish story, why not @captain-acab? If we all keep telling it, then in a generation or two it'll be traditional.
She was amazed to discover that when he was saying, 'As you wish,' what he meant was, 'I love you.' And… she truly loved him back.

i genuinely don't think there's much, if anything, hotter than someone clearly having a blast doing something they're really good at. doesn't really matter what it is. the combo of competence and joy is absolutely lethal to me
Sometimes I want to talk about the racism and discrimination I as a Jew of Jewish ancestry experience based on my physical appearance and my heritage without being told “but there’s no way to look Jewish!!!! But every Jew is an ethnic Jew!!!!!” That’s great doesn’t change the fact i am considered to have been born Wrong
a large part of the feelings I'm trying to express have to do with generational trauma and familial histories. and i really don't know how to put it better than "there are things that have happened in the past to my ancestors that are ingrained in who i am in every way possible". and wanting to be able to speak for my ancestors. it can feel really demeaning to have your voice taken away from you because you aren't an "interesting" enough Jew. because you are "just" Ashkenazi. because you are a bland "European" Jew who must experience so much white privilege. because you know so much less about Judaism than someone else. to be excluded from discussions of racism because I am not a "Jew of color". i am not diverse enough, i am not marginalized enough. my ancestors' food and language are one big, massive joke not only to the goyische world but to other Jews. we are considered genetically fucked up. they say were inbred. they say our genetic health problems are indicators that we should have gone extinct (rather than examining the impacts of prolonged stress not only on an individual but through generations.) they say we aren't real jews. we're khazars, white colonizers, were all converts, we don't belong. the true Jews are all people of color. so, i must not be a Jew. The fact that I am a Jew is an inherent part of my body in the same way I have eyes or legs or lungs. my Jewishness is such a central part of who I am as a person and how I am alive as a person.
i have no interesting story to tell to land myself on your DEI board. i have no universalizing statement of kindness. i have nothing to say about how a Jew is a Jew is a Jew. i have no explanation of the lessons i should have learned by the genocide my great grandparents avoided, only because they had to survive a different one. it's all been said before.
i can tell you the story of how my great grandfather escaped the pogroms by hiding in a wagon. how he made it to America with nothing. I can tell you about the lack of documentation i have of my family's history. I can tell you about the crouton recipe passed down through my family through visual learning. i can tell you we found eight generations of my family history, all through the maternal line (you always know who the mother is). i can tell you they lived in Riga and had yiddish names. I can tell you I have a very American name. I know what my paternal great grandfather's surname was, but I cannot spell it. he changed it after immigration. his first name too. i can tell you my mother was asked if she had horns growing up. i can tell you people misspell her name, make fun of it (it is Hebrew.) I can tell you kids stared at me in middle school when the holocaust was mentioned. I can tell you about the times i experienced what is legally a hate crime in the places my family had to leave. I can tell you why I knock on wood, why I was named for my mother's late grandmother, why I haven't been to a funeral, why my grandma hates tattoos. I can tell you about my experience as a third generation American. I can tell you about my family about Jewish geography about summer camps and community centers and Jewish day school. I can tell you about the first time I was told I was going to hell. I can tell you how sad other kids were when I said I dont celebrate christmas, how they assumed it must be because my parents dont love me. I can tell you how adults act the same way now when given this information. I can tell you how I felt the day 1200 Jews were murdered in ways I knew in my bones. I can tell you that it felt like i was reliving a memory passed to me through the womb.
but look at me. I am just a Jew. I am just an Ashkenazi Jew. my voice is overrepresented already. i am too loud, too much. i take up too much space. and i am mean. i am a very mean jew.

This is fascinating but what does the cat tree represent?
Nvm they explained it in through and amazing detail:
💬 9 🔁 0 ❤️ 62 · Would you be ok explaining what the cats & cat tree in your comic was a metaphor for? Assuming it was a metaphor. I really
why are people so against negative character development? characters don’t need to improve and become better people they can get worse and make mistakes and end up in a worse state than when they began and it’s just as interesting and entertaining as characters developing positively
