akatsuki music headcanons as a bit of fun
(don’t take this too seriously i just thought it was funny)
itachi :
- pretentious
- in a modern au i can see him being a guy who goes to tiny acts gigs on his own (a bandcamp listener through and through, the less listeners the better)
- likes anything technical, hes looking to be impressed, he loves poetic songwriting as well and pays close attention to lyricism (if theres any lyrics)
- very fond of an instrumental track
- music is a very private thing for him, its a quiet but intense hobby of his
- would be an incredible musician in another life, i see him playing violin
- SAD SAD taste. oh dear god his album collection would be a cry for help
- also an album listener, needs to experience it in full from start to finish. loves an album with a consistent narrative
- would be a nick drake listener
- uses music to ruminate
- can’t deal with super loud genres or needlessly intense noises
- went through a bit of an edgy phase when he was younger but when he’s out of the teenage years he does have a refined and specific idea of what he likes. (he’s be such a radiohead sadboy i am sobbing)
- finds the stuff he used to listen to embarrassing now
- has a preference for women vocalists with ethereal voices , also sad sad shoegaze
- loves a LONG ass song , im talking 15 / 20 minutes at times
kisame :
- mildly cheesy dad rock sorta radio 2 ahh taste
- thinks he likes a bit of everything
- he doesn’t
- its just guitar music , maybe the odd bit of hip hop, but nothing new
- in a modern au i see him loving the 90s as a decade of music but only listening to stuff from this specific time period, this will never change
- does not have as much of an appreciation for the craft, but does occasionally listen to stuff. likes some older pop stuff as a treat (will not admit to this)
- finds what itachi listens to a bit too weird and depressing
- is not down with current trends, does not really seek out anything new but likes a few nostalgic songs here and there. he sees it as a guilty pleasure
- secretly, very secretly, likes a pop banger. i see him having a gym playlist
- music isn’t a super big part of his life but he isn’t against it, he could take it or leave it
deidara :
- hardcore til i die
- he loves music
- seeking the loudest, overstimulating, almost grating stuff, with entirely unrelated genres. he has found so MUCH stuff that he likes to mix and match
- he loves finding deep cuts and WILL get into arguments over artists he loves / hates (its only one or the other)
- needs the stimulation to focus
- he’s a playlist guy, only brought together by a love of intensity, the whiplash between these songs go crazy
- extremely unlistenable noise rock would be his go to. also : gabber, happy hardcore, synth wave, metal, techno, hyperpop, math rock, horrorcore, industrial, electro clash, grime
- appreciates anything with a beat and the ability to move people. it can range heavily from emotional, scream-y and dark to just purely ecstatic upbeat dance
- in another life would be an unbelievable transfem / nb dj producer cooking up the most stupid loud genre blending beats of all time
- goes to hardcore gigs, tries to crowdkill and get the shit kicked out of them
- loves a rave, likes to dance, the louder the better. he craves intensity but does still appreciate the craft, he has taste (and will let you know that) it’s just extreme
- music is stim time for him. prefers it live but headphones on max volume do the job also
- does not care for the concept of cringe
- has hearing loss
sasori :
- the opposite to the above in every way
- quiet, understated, finds music quite distracting
- will get pissed off by deidaras taste
- old man likes classical, folk, it has to be timeless.
- soft spot for a love song, he will never admit this
- similar to itachis taste but more snooty
- REALLY dislikes electronic music, to an annoying level. he sees it as being an insult to tradition (boooo)
- he’d be such a snob in a modern au
- there’s a lot that he hates, and my god will he not open up about the stuff that he likes
hidan :
- metalhead, but for really crap cheesy metal
- gets into arguments with deidara, they both think the other one has shit taste
- cringe, bragging, loud, obnoxious
- the kinda guy who goes to gigs to pick up girls
- a DICKHEAD in crowds, oh dear oh dear
- likes getting the crap beat out of him and likes starting fights in moshpits
- is the guy to lock on to punching the smallest person in the crowd
- doesn’t rly listen to all that much really. he is quite narrowminded but in party / group settings he is fine for others to put stuff on
- I DON’T KNOW WHY but i see him vibing with shitty eurodance / trance proper trashy outdated club music but not in a cool post-ironic way at all . i think its because the slicked back hair makes him look vaguely german douchbag LMAO
- he is aware that most people dislike his preferences and he’ll try not to shove it onto others like he does his religion (music is his preference not his way of life)
- has to be the most macho masculine dudebro metal, won’t listen to anything he classes as ‘girly’
- finds deidaras taste too ‘gay’
- finds itachis taste too ‘softboy’
- finds sasoris taste too ‘boring’
- finds kisames taste ok i guess but its not intense enough
- you catch my drift
kakuzu :
- doesn’t care
- oh dear god he hates listening to anything someone else has picked. he will not hold back on showing how much he hates it. he also won’t offer any suggestions as to what to change it to
- “turn it off - now”
- angry man does not like hearing stuff when he’s trying to chill out . or ever really
- finds deidaras + hidans taste extremely irratating. hates whatever it is that deidara has going on, especially the electronic side of that. thinks its braindead
- finds music a waste of time and a waste of money (especially cd/vinyl/tape)
- his idea of unwinding is reading in dead silence
- no one is allowed to interfere with this
- has no time for hidans macho bs metal because he thinks its all performative and embarrassing
- has threatened to kill over having his quiet time interrupted
- will do it again
- don’t push his buttons
- doesn’t know what fun is
tobi :
- interesting one
- as tobi this is one thing he can agree with deidara on
- loves the fun of it all. music had no part in his life for the longest time so its all new and exciting and shiny
- actually finds a lot he enjoys through deidara and does love the intensity of it
- something to bond over at first ! but he asks a million questions and that does start to grind on deidara
- bit of age regression / dissociation in here, he never had a fun party-ing phase so now he can live through that. he throughly enjoys that he can switch his brain off
- over time , does realise he is drawn to a lot of more emotional music - especially the noise, shoegaze, lofi, grunge cuts that he finds through dei or himself
- likes a catchy melody, but since he had such little input through his time isolated with madara his taste is undeveloped and deidara is the weirdest one to find music through
- album listener also, can’t get behind playlists yet
- starts finding his own stuff in his spare time
- as obito, privately when he does start exploring more music he discovers quickly that the sadder the music the angrier he feels
- its a crushing feeling, one sad song, maybe a love song or something about loss, grief or death and he’s ruined. he’s feeling emotions he can’t put labels on but its so painful
- treads carefully from this point on
- sad songs with any female vocalists makes him think of rin and its too much for him
- is the type to lay in bed listening to earthmover
pain (nagato) :
- appreciates folk
- loves things quiet and calming and beautiful
- think gentle slow core, field recordings,
- this music can be used as escapism when his body is in pain
- similar to obito, sad songs are way too much for him, he wants music to dream of a better future, avoiding at all costs dwelling on the past
- he doesn’t like pop or dance, nothing bubbly or exciting, its too fake for him. he doesn’t have the energy for it
- he’s a brown noise to sleep kinda guy
- if he had spotify there would be very few ‘songs’ on it, its mainly ambience
- finds deidaras taste completely baffling
- if he was more well i think he would tolerate a lot more genres but he’s a very sick man with not a lot of time for hobbies
konan :
- my baddie, my angel, my queen
- actually does listen to a lot of different stuff. like itachi its a private hobby but something she needs for the escapism of it all
- music is a big confidence thing for her. especially when she is feeling low or stressed out
- huge trip hop listener oh my god
- appreciates anything with mystery and atmosphere
- big mix of emotional, slow sadder tracks and just straight bangers
- highly dependent on her emotions. shes the type to put on absolutely devastating songs when shes sad to make herself cry it out
- playlists mainly, occasionally she is into albums but she likes to curate playlists for different occasions / moods / feelings
- i see her liking pj harvey, portishead, massive attack , bjork, mazzy star ,
- in a modern au shes at all the cool gigs and shows
- she keeps up to date with new acts, but her soft spot stays with older genres
- shes so cool, but she also knows it.
- can be a little repetitive with the way she listens to things. sometimes listens to certain songs to death
- her and itachi are most similar in their taste, have they ever spoke about it - no of course not. will they ever? - probably also no. they’re both too introverted to open up like that
- doesn’t fw overly macho or bragging music at all. she has no tolerance for any hints of misogyny. its an immediate no
- loves a film soundtrack occasionally
- doesn’t talk much about her passions but is still mildly pretentious (internally)
- in a modern world, shes a classic letterboxd, esoteric, microbangs substack reader. love her for it but sometimes she is trying a bit too much to be perceived as cool and unapproachable.
