Blog: This is an Independent role-play blog of Mikazuki Munechika from the online browser game Touken Ranbu. Please note that I am very committed to Touken Ranbu's lore as I have been playing/following it for 10 years. I don't expect people to know everything but I do expect basic understanding of the lore when interacting with other Touken Ranbu blogs. That being said, I will not interact with any blogs that don't meet this criteria because unfortunately, this is my hyperfixation.

Private: Currently, this blog will only be interacting with mutuals. My portrayal of Mikazuki comes from the ingame lines, stageplays, anime, and other medias .

NSFW: Everything will be tagged if a role-play should end up taking that direction.

Fandom: This blog is multi-fandom, meaning I am more than happy to rp outside of the Touken Ranbu verse.  I have some knowledge of popular fandoms, but if I don’t know yours I may ask or do some research on it to rp with you! Check out the verse page if you are interested in doing something like that to see if any may match your fandom.

Shipping: As of right now, I will not be shipping anything unless Mikazuki really likes your muse via interaction and chemistry. I personally do not ship Mikazuki with anyone. This blog is multi-ship, and will only be shipped with one version of each muse. Saniwas are an exception to the rule.

Activity: My activity varies from fast replies to a few weeks. I do try to keep my RPs going, but real life gets in the way quite often. Take your time doing replies, and please let me take my time as well.

Saniwas: Mikazuki will not have a default saniwa, and will interact with all saniwas in seperate verses. If you have an OC with a saniwa verse, just let me know!

OOC: Stuff that has to deal with Muns

HYAKKI YAKOU

Last year, the event focused on the similar thing, with endless waves as the enemies flooded from "Iko" which is essentially a graveyard of no light. Iko is a mess of shutdown timelines/disposal for the government and all that which do exist since we have "Investigation" events of them. "Kuki" was lost in the depths of last year's event so part of it reveals that the oni, Senki calls itself a "war demon" and gives itself a "name."

Names are important within Japanese myth and especially important within Touken Ranbu. They have a name, their stories, and that's where they draw power from. Their names define who/what they are, and why they still exist at this time with their designated history of "why" they were named.

When the oni gave itself a name, it gave itself power. In this case, the oni gave itself the name of "Shuten Douji" which is one of the big bad oni within Japanese myth and thus is powerful. In the myth, "Doujigiri Yasutsuna" was the sword of Minamoto Yorimitsu, who in the legends slayed Shuten Douji.

To note, within the event there are special lines for swords who have oni killing in their stories (Higekiri, Onimaru) since they are "used" to doing those types of things. It's very much similar to the shinsengumi swords who have special lines in World 6 since it revolves around their owner's history.

The mysterious sword who weakened "Shuten Douji" is currently thought to be "Onikiri", which is another name for Higekiri and they played on the legend of Ibaraki Douji and Watanabe No Tsuna. Watanabe was one of Minamoto's vassals who cut of Ibaraki Douji (Shuten Douji's general equivalent) on the  Rashomon gate according to the myth and was the owner of "Onikiri."

Onikiri was able to cut off the oni's arm because that is his "story" and "strength."

To note, these event center around Iko as sorties to those maps are disabled when these event happen. It isn't the revisionist that are causing it and instead Iko itself. Senki stated that Touken Danshi and itself are the same, like a mirror. "Iko is the graveyard of possibilities" so it has its own power that might be the result of what lies in the depths if you know how to manipulate what happens there.

TENKA GOKEN

The reward for this event is the final Tenka Goken, Doujigiri Yasutsuna but he isn't like the other ones. Mikazuki even picks up that he's uncomfortable using the name and he can't bring himself to call him that. Other swords when first obtained introduce themselves but Doujigiri is unable to do so. Alongside, his name has "Hakuraku" which means flake/peeled, not a complete sword.

The Tenka Goken tend to have a confidence in their name and are seen as more mature than the other swords. Oodenta is gruff but understands his power, Juzumaru retains a peaceful view because he leans towards buddhism, Onimaru even says he's only good for oni killing etc. Mikazuki is Mikazuki.

Doujigiri does not have this confidence because essentially he isn't "complete." He is an amalgamation of Oni parts and was found inside the Oni's hand at the end of the event by Oborozuki and picked up by the Time Government.

My current thoughts is that it will lean towards the lore introduced in the 4th Stage play, where a sword was also born as an amalgamation of broken ones. That sword Ototsugi did not receive his name until the end of the play and was similar to the current Doujigiri.

Newborn sword, stumbling through, not confidant or powerful--until his master gave him the name and soldifed his place as "his" sword like samurai did once they had a story with it. Once ototsugi recieved his name, he could fight as well as any other sword and go toe to toe with the Citadel's one.

Doujigiri might receive the same treatment I think. Grow into the the saniwa's "Doujigiri Yasutsuna," like how many swords go through kiwame and have that mindset (ily Yaman Chougi and Kuni).

LORE INTERPRETATION

Touken Ranbu's lore has always been mostly background information, gleaned through poems of the Kebishii, irl interviews, anime and stageplay stuff so it can be hard to track. I tend to rely on the stage play for most of my lore for Mikazuki so it's nice to see things happen in game (its been ten years).

Going back to the "story" aspect, the current consensus is that Onikiri is a sword only with that aspect of Higekiri history. Higekiri is someone who doesn't have strong feelings about any story which is why he constantly forgets names--because they aren't important to him compared to other swords.

The black swordsman that appeared uses Higekiri's pose/sprite to represent itself. A sword that is made to cut off the oni's arm and be "Onikiri" aspect of his history. To add, it seems like a new faction is introduced by Oborozuki named "Yamata" which is connected to Yamata no Orochi via the symbol we see.

Myth wise, the imperial treasure Kusanagi was found after Susano'o slayed Orochi. The Kusanagi is a gift from the heavens so it will no doubt be powerful in terms of "strength" via the story. "The Time Government hasn't been twiddling their thumbs" ie, they haven't been sitting still and continue to find ways to get stronger after the Great Invasion.

I would like to emphasize that within Touken Ranbu, saniwas and the Time Government are at war to protect history. Touken Danshi are weapons first and foremost, and are treated as such so it's not a big surprise that there's experimentations going on to make them more powerful. My own interpretation has always been that Touken Danshi are disposal according to the overarching plot of the game compared to humans/saniwas.

Sure, you can be upset and whatnot over the reveal but again--Touken Danshi are not seen as humans for the Time Government so experimentation to improve them is kinda necessary. It gives way to the plot of what Senki meant of "we are the same" alongside the Kebishii poems that imply they're warped versions of the swords.

Anyway, Oborozuki doesn't seem to be affiliated with either faction so it hints towards something else at play which is neat. Previous openings, we see that there's many Jijis so he's different from our jiji as he says "Our Moons."

I was excited to see the reveal of the Government having their own type of Touken danshi. Since we've met a few Like Chougi who is there to assess saniwas and Hakusan who even says that the Time Government was watching. Chougi's own development always gets me since he only refers to you as master once he's kiwame and "completes his assessment." It hints at more information about what the Time Government does and can even be played to watch out for defectors and what not.

The swords under the Time Government seem to be different from the Citadel's one, as Oborozuki says before that he isn't the same as the citadel one. If you thought Mikazuki couldn't get more sus you're wrong!
