I’m not a writer, nor is English my first language, so I have lots of feelings about writing a story in English. But I wanted to share this radioapple idea of a fic I’ve been thinking about! I had this idea of how Alastor would be affected by empathy for Lucifer’s pain, while the setup ended up being a self-inflicted trap that would force him to make a decision against his core-defining wishes. It’s a happy ending, so bear with me:

An important kickstarter is that he actually concocted the perfect plan, and nobody could stop him. The crew spends most of their time trying to find a loophole just to slowly realize they can’t stop Alastor from taking over hell. The slow desperation grows through every chapter as they lose hope.

He’d somehow strike a deal with Lucifer. Lucifer would be constantly failing to get his family back together, even after Lilith’s return. Then Al convinces Luci he could take care of things in his place, take care of Charlie and the hotel while Lucifer takes his vacation away from home to think. Something about him being too available, too attached, that he should let things breathe, and something about distance makes the heart grow fonder. Lu is spiraling, and he needs time for himself to get his discernment back Al would be bound to give him daily reports so Lu would know what’s going on

But Al is very good with words and how he shows facts, so he could twist them in his favor without actually lying. So Al traps Lucifer in a pocket dimension inside his staff. This would allow him to use Lucifer’s angelic powers through his voice and expand his broadcast and his own powers.

With creation powers, he would start to rewrite how Hell works, and I can see the pentagram above the city being a visual cue for how much is getting covered with his magic and changing the city’s sky from red to neon green and purple. Like, once that is fully complete, it’s game over.

So you’d have a ticking bomb, and everybody starts to realize they can’t stop. You’d have different reactions to that with people coping with what seemed inevitable. Meanwhile, Al has to meet with Lucifer every day for a quick chat where Al manages to convince the king that everything is actually fine. For the fun of it, I imagined the pocket dimension to be - build your own universe - sort of place. Like giving Lu a playground where he can shape into everything to pass the time and get lost in it. So it could be very realistic one day and very abstract one the next time Al visits. We never know. I could also play around with giving homages to different AUs usually found in fandom as the boys grow closer. Perhaps once is a coffee place, another could be pirates, and so on and so forth, just to give a nod to the fandom experience for fun! The problem is, Al is actually pretty good at what he does. So he just needs to lie to Lucifer long enough, and then no one, not even Lu, would be able to out-power him. He’d get everything he wanted, and it’s almost surprisingly easy. But with every meeting, he ends up getting to know the king better.

Lu starts to vent to Alastor, especially after asking if Charlie or Lilith had asked for him, or missed him somehow, and Alastor’s answer would be between the lines, “They are very busy, but I’ll tell you if they did.” The more Lu convinces himself that they don’t miss him, the less he wants to go back

Lúcifer’s feelings of irrelevance start to pull him towards a deep depression, and Al, exposed to that everyday start to be affected by it despite himself. It starts with the saddest smile he ever seen on Lu’s face, which makes him want to crack a joke bc he doesn’t like seeing the king like that

Then the realization that he’s the one doing it. The king is stupid enough to fall for his lies without questioning him. And bc of his stupid bound, he’s forced to watch him getting worse and worse. But he can’t stop it, not when he’s about to get all the power he could ever want forever.

To become the new king, he’d have to witness the fall of the previous one.

And that breaks something inside of him. He thought he could stay unaffected, that he was above silly attachments. Yet he finds himself emotionally responding to Lucifer’s tragedy. Making his internal struggle hard to ignore.

It eats him up, making him question himself and what he really wants. His quest for power starts to feel meaningless; he even starts to resent how incompetent everybody is in not falling into his traps, and this growing fondness for Lucifer’s mental well-being is all very confusing.

Alastor breaks in his visits, his vulnerability cracks open while talking to Lucifer. Starts to talk about things he never talked to anyone about. It’s frustrating and freeing, and he blames Lucifer for his loss of control. Lucifer can’t hurt him, neither wants anything from him. That’s inadmissible.

Outside the pentagram is almost taken over. Only a few people still try to do something about it, while most just given up. Al looks at the city lights while drinking his favorite drink. He feels empty inside. Tired and, above all, stupid for what he is about to do. He takes one last sip and goes inside.

Once he sees Lucifer, he’s not smiling, and that’s enough to make Lu wait for the worst. Then he tells Lucifer everything. His plan, what he did, how he did it, how everybody failed to stop him, and how he’s about to get everything. Then he gives Lucifer their deal for him to break it.

Lúcifer’s brain screeched to a halt. Alastor emphasizes that Charlie and Lilith weren’t harmed in any way. He kept his side of the deal, and then he reminded Lucifer that it’s a matter of time. They are in the last hour before the pentagram is taken over.

Lucifer, with the solution in his hands, asks why he is telling him all that. He was about to get everything, so why give him the only way to stop him? Al doesn’t respond to that. He says that Lucifer should do it, that way he’d get the respect from sinners, the appreciation for saving Hell from his wife, and become a hero for his daughter.

Alastor would go down as the defeated villain; he’d be kicked out of the hotel, out of Hell, and out of Lucifer’s life. Lu says he’s not making any sense. Al gets frustrated, he emphasizes the time they are wasting, how stupid this is, that even by giving him the solution, he doesn’t do anything

Up to the point that he cracks one last time and reveals he doesn’t want to stay the rest of eternity lying to Lucifer, with him believing him. He feels just as tortured seeing him like that, and that Lu doesn’t deserve any of it.

He developed empathy for Lucifer, and he hates every bit of it. Lu can’t believe what he’s witnessing. Alastor of all sinners, manipulative bastard, serial killer, about to get everything he ever wanted, chose to tell him the truth and is now giving him the way to stop him because… of empathy?? While losing everything for someone else’s sake?? Holly f*ck

Of course, Al would spit “empathy” like it was a dirty word. He is Alastor.

Al: SAY SOMETHING!

Lucifer looks at the contract in his hand, then to Alastor and holds it back to him.

Lu: You do it.

Al: ???!!

Lu: I gave you free-will once. I’m not deciding for you.

Lu: Show me what humanity can do.

Alastor laughs maniacally. Questions Lucifer’s sanity. Reinforces that he’d get everything. Why wouldn’t he take it? Lucifer is a fool. They are all fools.

Lucifer is just watching him, with his big eyes and a soft smile on his face. He knows what Al will do. He can barely stay still.

Alastor twists the contract in his hand, takes a look at Lucifer one last time. His chest constricts. He’s just as much of a fool as everybody else around him.

And tears the paper in half.

Breaking the contract and breaking the spell on Lucifer that only allowed him to witness the bad in humanity.
