Sakura is Gifted
No doubt, Sakura is a hard worker, but I would say most characters in the Naruto universe are hard workers, such as Naruto, Sasuke, Rock Lee, etc. However, Rock Lee is the only one who got to where he is through hard work alone.
I would categorize Sakura as a hidden talent. We are constantly shown this throughout the OG series:
She has had Perfect Chakara Control since OG naruto; even Kakashi was surprised at how good she was.
She was able to answer all the Jounin-level questions without cheating.
Midway through the Chunin Exams, even Kakashi noticed that Sakura's resilience and skills drastically improved over a few days.
Within the Chunin Exam Finals, Sakura is one of the only few that was capable of escaping an A-rank Genjustsu.
Tsunade takes her on as an apprentice because she has the rare skillsets and resolve required to become a medic-nin.
Sakura is brimming with potential, but the reason she is not being not seen as a gifted Shinobi like the other characters is for a few reasons.
To begin she is on a team of Prodigies. We constantly degrade Sakura compared to her other teammates. Still, many critics intentionally leave out that all her teammates are the main characters in a Shoen series, so her teammates will outshine her abilities as the only girl on the team. (I will leave out the main characters' backstories as the subject of this post is about Sakura being a hidden talent and why it no one seems to notice.)
First, We have Naruto Uzumaki main character of the show. In the beginning, he is the perceived underdog of the series, but we soon find out that was never the case. He has the Nine-tails inside of him, one of the most powerful creatures alive. We then find out he is the child of prophecy; he's also the son of the 4th Hokage, whose mother was part of one of the most powerful clans in the series. In addition, he was given The Sage of Six Path powers, and let's not forget he's the reincarnation of the Demigod Ashura.
Next, we have Sasuke Uchiha, the deuteragonist of the series. Born into the most powerful clan in the village, blessed with the Sharingan (the ability to copy almost any move and predict where the enemy would attack), he was at the top of his class. He is a prodigy, was given a curse mark that made him more powerful, given performance-enhancing drugs, and given his brother's eyes to make him even more powerful. In addition, he was given the Sage of Six Path Rennigan and is also the reincarnation of the Demigod Indara.
We then have Yamoto and Sai as temporary fill-ins for team 7. Yamoto is a science experiment performed by Orochimaru, who imbued him with Hashirama Cells, giving him the power to use the sporadic ability of Wood Release. Meanwhile, Sai is a well-trained Ninja by Danzo Shimura and can bring his ink work to life.
Finally, we have Kakashi Hatake, Born a prodigy and the son of one of the most powerful Shinobi (said to be even more powerful than the Legendary Sannin combined). He was then given one Sharingan and ended up copying over 1000 Jitsu. When the Mongekeo Sharingan is unlocked, it can teleport anything into another dimension; finally, he gets the other Sharingan and can form a perfect Susunno seconds after he receives the eyes.
So it's no surprise that Sakura gets the short end of the stick and gets ignored. Sakura doesn't come from a powerful clan. We are not even sure if she's from a ninja clan the only detail we get of her background is the Road to Ninja Movie, where her parents said that their family is not known to have any particular talents. Her mother is a part of the mother alliance force but that is all we know. The story constantly reminds us (whether intentionally or unintentionally) that being born into a powerful clan is the key to being phenomenal. There are outliers like Minato, Jiraya, and Rock Lee, but those are exceptions, not rules. Someone like Sakura, who doesn't come from a renowned clan and is a girl in the Shinobi world, would be overlooked.
There is an implicit bias against Sakura. We see it in the way Kakashi treats her. He focuses on the boys, showing them how to do a Jitsu, and giving pointers and advice while ignoring Sakura. The most he showed her was how to climb a tree and release Genjuitsu. Still, since she learned so quickly, he didn't bother to teach her anything else and focused on the boys.
In some cases, Kakashi coddled Sakura and didn't take her seriously. The circumstances of constantly having to be on missions after Konoha's 1st Destruction forced Kakashi to prioritize Naruto after the 2nd attempt to retrieve Sasuke failed. Kakashi knew from the start that Naruto and Sasuke would be great because of who they were.
Even though she is a hidden talent, she gets overshadowed by her other peers. Sakura is brilliant but compared to Shikamaru; she seems average. However, her Chakra Control is phenomenal; it is stated that once you can master chakra control, you can theoretically perform any Jitsu, but since no one is showing her how to utilize this talent (in part 1), Sakura has to figure it out herself. Unlike the Prodigy Neji, who can use his chakra to block his opponent's chakra points. These two are exceptional Shinobi but are both from powerful clans that give them the attention they need to develop those skills.
Her skill set is not particularly flashy compared to others. Instead, the most striking thing in her arsenal is her powerful punches; it's impressive to watch but can get repetitive. Although we see the fantastic scene where she saves Konkuro's life, we don't get a lot of chances to see her shine (this is a fighting series, not Konoha'a Anatomy). She was terrific in the Kazagake Retrieval Arc and did a lot during the Pein Arc. Still, she gets relegated to the background and is a damsel in distress for Naruto or Kakashi to save until the second day of the 4th great Shinobi war (but still gets to play damsel somehow). Most of her skillset is grounded and loosely based on real-world medical procedures meant to save lives, compared to her teammates who get to perform flashy mystical Jutsu meant to harm their opponents.
Her motivation for becoming a Ninja is never really solidified; most people think it is so that Sasuke could notice her, which. I don’t blame people for that perception because the anime made it seem like that was the case, which is not the case. She is smitten with Sasuke but before she noticed Sasuke, her goal was to become a kunoichi like Ino, someone she viewed as brave, strong, and kind, something she wanted to be. She wanted to become Ino’s equal, Sasuke was the tipping point and excuse she used to declare Ino’s her rival. Sakura would rather be Ino’s rival and be an equal than be her best friend and be in her shadow. After that her motivation was to save Sasuke from the darkness, protect Naruto and Sasuke and stand together with them on the battlefield, and reunite team 7.
Sakura’s goals are pretty low stakes and small compared to everyone elses. All of her teammates on team 7 are tramatized in some way shape or form.
Finally, even though Sakura is a hidden talent, We only get a slight glimpse of her abilities compared to her peers, whose abilities are more Flashy. Of course, she had a natural talent, but since she didn't come from a prestigious clan and was a girl whose skills were based more on intelligence than physical ability, no one expected her to achieve as much as she did. Therefore, even though I criticized Kakashi a few paragraphs ago, I will commend Kakashi for telling Tsunade that Sakura has the skillset needed to become her apprentice and aknowledge that he reconized her strength after the 2 year timeskip. Despite not being from a powerful clan she still became the strongest kunoichi.
So, in conclusion, Sakura didn't achieve her success through hard work alone. Although she was hidden talent, her male counterparts overshadowed her because she was a kunoichi from an unexceptional clan, and she had the misfortune of being a girl in a Shoen Manga/Anime.
