shoutout to Dr Henry Morgentaler. A Polish Holocaust survivor who lost his father to the gestapo, his mother to Auschwitz, and sister to Treblinka. He survived Dachau and when he was freed at 22yo he weighed 32kg. After the war he moved to Canada and became a doctor. He was a pioneer in family planning being one of the only ones providing vasectomies, birth control to unmarried women, and most importantly abortions. i learned about dr Morgentaler in law school because of his THREE supreme court cases that forever changed the landscape and access to abortion in Canada. He went to court three separate times to fight for women’s rights over their bodies. And won. I am so glad I googled him for context outside of the legal battles. Dr Morgentaler passed in 2013 at the age of 90. May his memory be a blessing.
