My body, my soul, my mind for me.
I decided to take my life into my own hands.
Said ‘No’,
To the men who believed they had the right to use me as a piece in the puzzle they call Culture.
So I packed my bags in search of the road less traveled.
Strapped my sandals on tight for the long journey ahead.
Eyes staring down at me,
As if I was looking up the barrel of a gun.
As they cocked the hammer
I held tight to my life,
Wrapped my fist around my will
And
Little did I know that such will was sharper than any two edged sword.
The bells tolled.
And sirens wailed.
The elders stayed silent.
My own blood turned their faces from me.
They stripped me of my dignity, stole away my humanity,
Took my sandals off in the hopes that I would stop walking the path.
We have probably never met, and only God knows if we ever will.
But just take a moment to step into my shoes.
To understand.
Continue the walk for me,
Continue the walk for you,
Continue walking for all of us.
My name is Noura and I am every woman.
