look at her!! she is so cute!!! i want to cry!!!!

They’re so absolutely horrifying compared to millipedes and for some reason that difference speaks to my soul. They bite, their legs and antennae are out and long, constantly wriggling, built for speed— they’re scary. I think I’m scary like that in my heart. It doesn’t mean much of anything, but I think about it sometimes.

On my recent trip to Costa Rica, I was lucky enough to witness this really neat symbiotic relationship between these Treehoppers and ants! (Unsure of spp. of ant.)

when a bug is weirdly attached to a small rock, it's a serendipitous workaround to their hatred of being picked up. simply grab the rock, and they'll usually be none the wiser, like this Larinus here who would normally drop into the leaf litter if i grabbed it

You are what you eat: just ask the hooded grasshopper (Teratodes monticollis)! This uniquely-shaped  insect feeds primarily on leaves—and it’s perfectly camouflaged to look like one, too. Females can grow up to 2 in (5.2 cm) long, while males are only about half their size. This species might be spotted near trees or shrubs throughout parts of India and Sri Lanka.
