Jon begins to say that he can prove it, to offer to rip the truth from them word by painful word. He is generally against using the Beholding to cause people harm - his boss does that enough - but there are certain cases where he would be more than willing to extract a Statement if it meant someone else wouldn't have to suffer for it.

   He reads over the front of the card with its emerald owl staring wide-eyed back at him.  The Magnus Institute.  Jonathan Sims.  Head Archivist.  The name of the institution could be something related to psychology.  He supposed they were called mental institutions, after all.  But then, why wasn’t Jon’s job title something like psychiatrist or therapist or doctor or something like that?  An archivist sounded like a glorified librarian, so Tweek didn’t know how much of an expert the guy really was about situations like his own.  How would someone who shuffled papers around all day be able to deal with the menace of his parents?

   “You… you do?” he asks, raising his eyes from the card to look at Jon.  In them, for as wary as he is, is something like hope.  He is trying to keep it in check, though, given how weird this situation is in general.

    Heavy on barely. There were a few strings of words in Tweek's scratchy voice that hung around in his head, but nothing that really concerned him. Sleep was a real thing and he got through every night without waking up to noise. That door bang was something else, and it's a miracle that he could even talk during the night.

    With the little sips he took from the cup of coffee, the caffeine hit him harder than he expected, blinking for a moment. and shaking his head. Was it him or the coffee? Jimmy couldn't say for certain, but he decided to hold the coffee between his hands. For now.

    And he wasn't exactly a guy known for words. All he did was listen, occasionally squinting at Tweek out of harsh observations. A stink eye for most teachers, but it's how he gave his "hard reads" according to Gary.

    "Do you spike your coffee or something? This feels like I'm getting a punch to the face and I'm like, three sips in," he asked off-hand, gesturing the cup. "But if all that shmuck you were giving me is about Craig ... ugh ...

    " ... look, half the stuff I do around this school isn't for making or breaking ties. I just don't feel like dealing with idiots. This school is full of idiots and it's so easy to get on people's bad sides over being associated with morons who fight for half-ass reputations and cheap lunches. I'm not here to be some wedge or leashed idiot to fight for people. You think I'd even consider kissing Craig's ass for something that isn't my problem?"

   He didn’t even tell the other preps where he got the drugs for their parties.  They didn’t know they came out of his parents’ stash, and they never asked.

   He almost felt bad for lying when the word, “No,” slipped out of his mouth on impulse.  “It’s—it’s just a strong blend.  My parents m-make it special…  I figured you c-could use it after l-last night…  You might be able to… ngh… get some milk or s-something for it from the cafeteria.”  Why it was such an instinct of his to protect his parents, he didn’t know.  Wouldn’t it benefit him in the end of they got arrested?  But then, if they ever got out of prison…

   He shook his head, trying to stop himself from spiraling about all of that.

"Oh, heh. Thanks." He followed the directions and watched as the flame lit up with an expression of awe. He knew of lighters, of course, and even used a few different ones himself, but they weren't always the easiest to find on their ventures out. So, Alric simply wasn't practiced enough.

"Oh, it's going to be weird but don't worry... its temporary,:" Alric chuckled. That certainly wouldn't help with Tweek's worries. But maybe this would...

Alric loosely the side of Tweek's head in one palm, his thumb square in the middle if the forehead. With a near indecipherable smirk, he pressed own with light pressure on his thumb pad. At the same time, the energy and restlessness gradually drained out of Tweek. In order to be careful and not pull too much, Alric kept it a slow suction. It would also give Tweek the ability to pull back if it was too much.

   He flinched when Alric put his thumb on his forehead, which seemed like such a weird brainwashy thing to do.  But just as he was about to pull away, deeming it too weird to manage, something happened.  His heart stopped stammering against his ribs and slowed to a more normal rhythm for the first time in many years, maybe the first time in his life.  He couldn’t remember ever not feeling like he was on the verge of a heart attack.

Agnes moves her hands back as the napkin is plucked from the holder, lifting her cup up as she does so. Part of that is instinct, the other an attempt to appear unaware of the situation she has put Tweek in. Her eyes narrow, well aware of the unfortunate timing it has with reacting to Mrs. Tweak's statements. Damn it, damn it all.

"There's no shame in that, he's a child." Anger rises in her, the urge to stand tripled. She places her hands back on the table, setting the cup aside as she angles herself better to face Tweek's mother. "A healthy imagination is normal at his age, is it not? We all could use a little bit of joy in our lives," The tendrils are too far for her to reach for without it being obvious, though the minuscule ones that had attached themselves to the table were not. Reaching out for a napkin herself, she pushes her hand through as many of them as she can as she sets her cup on top of the napkins she had grabbed.

   He dares to look up, casting his eyes back and forth between Agnes and his mother but staying a safe distance behind the latter.  It both keeps him out of her direct eyeline and affords him plausible deniability, that he is either on his way to the back room or looking for his mother to defend him.

   “Yes, well, he’s a little different from most other kids,” Mrs. Tweak says, and Tweek knows well what her inflection on different means—difficult, needy, burdensome.  “He likes to invent monsters and whatnot.”  Tweek watches the soft sway of her bob as she shakes her head.  “Most people find it off-putting.  I guess it’s a good thing that you don’t mind it, though.”  She says good thing territorially.

   Tweek catches Agnes swiping a napkin over the edge of the table.  That must be at least part of what is upsetting his mother, the idea that her establishment is not clean enough for someone.

    "It's like ... you hit somebody with seasonal allergies for the first time. You give 'em a migraine," she chuckled. "I had that happen once. Head drove me crazy for days. Hearing voices would make me lose it, like I'd fall into psychosis that day."

    It was funny to laugh at then, but the concept of it and knowing just how bad headaches could be, it was a little bit scary to think about. It was something to laugh at for a time. The talk of her parents was a different path that was uncomfortable, but not something she hated thinking about. It was real and she wished it wasn't.

    " ... y'know, with all the stories of kids that had addicts for parents, I always wondered how my parents didn't try to pawn off the house to get more of that stuff," she said. "They, like ... I guess it's because they'd be blacked out too early to even think about it. I know other people suffer from that kind of stuff. For me ... I dunno. They hid it so well from other people."

    Her eyes glanced toward Craig, listening to him intently. She remembered the yaoi thing so well and how uncomfortable it was to ... collect them. It was disgusting, in her mind. More information about his dad only made her dislike him even further.

    " ... fucking what? That's disgusting," she said, face wrinkling in a bitter sense of disgust. "Did she ever find out about it?"

   He nodded in understanding, thinking about Tweek and everything that guy probably did to get his fix. He tried unsuccessfully not to let it worry him.

   “Yeah, I can imagine it’d make you have to parent them a lot of the time, especially if they weren’t functional enough to, like, go to work or whatever.” Craig knew what it was like to grow up with not enough money, and he shuddered to think what it would be like without any coming in at all.

"Help me today and tomorrow, and we will call this even." He's going to stay up all night and finish the build, but tomorrow will be installation, and it will be helpful to have a smaller pair of hands should he need to make any tweaks to the interior of the machine in question. His obsession with water purification will pay off in dividends one day, but he's not there quite yet. For now, it's small time...and chems remain the heart and soul so that his income remains steady.

   He doesn’t know what his parents have planned for him tomorrow, but whatever it is, he will find some way to wiggle out of it.

   His eyes fall back to the box in front of him, wide with surprise and attentiveness, having been pulled out of thoughts of his home life by Viktor’s observation. He digs around in the box, trying to think if Viktor meant his own right or Tweek’s right, but soon he comes out with a small piece of bluish gray metal shaped in an even curve. He turns it over in his hands until he finds it sufficiently undented outside of one minuscule divot, which he is sure will be negligible.

"No. I just feel bad that I bothered you. You may not believe me but... I do try and not be a burden to others. But, I suppose I already failed there, huh?" She tried for a joke, feeling it once again die on her lips. Try as she might, Calondra couldn't seem to gain any ground in this conversation.

   He shrugs and looks down at his feet, crunching the snow along the edge of the sidewalk with his heel. “Yeah, I could,” he says. Not with his dad but with his mom, perhaps.

SO. all of my blogs are, for the time being, on an indefinite semi-hiatus + i'm dropping everything older than 3 months, unless i already wrote it in my notebook and just need to type it up. i do intend to come around intermittently but. who knows!!!
