the acoc candy couture vol 2 zine is literally the most stunning thing i've ever seen (CHECK IT OUT AND ALL THE OTHER ZINES FROM THE D20 ZINE JAM) and i drew the rocks sisters like i was fucking possessed or smth

i did a bunch of research to make smth sort of historically accurate for my primsy design last year. this year i wanted to just go off and go for pure vibes only. also i actually saved my process!

we have had aabria autumn on d20 since 2020, when she stole the show as myrtle in pirates of leviathan. you could feel her inhabiting that mermaid over a zoom screen. felt like i was watching a mermaid roll around in a life-size martini glass full of vodka with my own eyes.

then she changed the game with mismag in 2021, bringing kids on brooms, personalized props, lighting effects, and projections to the dome, after which she held it down as antiope jones. the reluctant leader, the late bloomer who is not late but merely arriving in her own time.

in 2022 she came back with kisses, with regency, with good society, with flowers and tokens and projections and a willingness to follow up on consequences that never stopped moving. wuvvy my beloved. kill me with the devotion of a life lived in service to the one you love why don’t you.

in 2023 she was the spiciest assassin. fit for the genre in fits for the genre. replacing skalds like she was born to do it. and then burrow’s end. a genre exploration with a splash of the violence of dnd and the tragicomedy of family. beautiful sets, incredible audiovisual effects, and horror both visceral and cosmic.

in 2024? she’s back with wizards baby. she’s taking a 4 episode jaunt of americans becoming wizards in britain and making an adventure of eleven episodes. planets move, the dm screen talks, and the wind is on the rise.

Just finished the fourth episode of MisMag s2 and am now contemplating the cannibalism inherent to Seegenpelater.

When the whaleship Essex sank, the survivors refused to seek refuge on an island because they believed the people there were cannibals. Eventually a lifeboat of survivors pulled straws to see who they would eat to survive: a man killed and ate his own nephew. I'm thinking about how, when they were rescued, the sailors refused to let go of the boy's finger bones. I'm thinking about a willingness to eat the ones you love because you wouldn't let anything challenge your worldview, your expectations of superiority and order, and now you've dug yourself too deep.

I'm thinking about how Lemli killed two people to make 206 magical objects per person. I'm thinking about how she snapped their bones one by one, from the femur all the way down to the tiniest bones in the ear. Who were they? Were they strangers? Perhaps friends, part of that crew unwilling to go into the NAMP world? Did they die willingly? Naturally? Or did Lemli indulge her favorite hobby, leading her victims to the sea? Where did she keep the bones? And where is Hoggle?

I'm thinking about the fact that familiars are extensions of the self, and how the people on Seegenpelater have slaughtered them just to get another hit of magic. How the mechanics of the game make it so when you have done enough magic, you can gain a magic item; the idea that you can then break that item to do more magic. I'm thinking about cannibalism as self-devouring in addition to the devouring of ones like oneself.

like im thinking all the time about how swag is just a version of sol who didnt have friends, and otherwise their character arc (the way they seek connections/purpose and get exploited by them) is very purposely similar. then w the most recent ep, its callies mom as the descendant of aryox. the way her inherited gift causes her to fall down the same road as he did. cold and distant from the peoples shes fighting from, and dying in contrition.

.. if thats anything. theres also the ways duck team falls short of whats expected of them, and how that failure is what allows them to break out of those intergenerational familial cycles. (maybe callie especially? w like her inability to be stoic and her intensity of love is what allows her to reach out to the snakes and the wild)
