Trans Ouroboros

I think a present issue is that the current critique of Harry Potter is surrounding the franchise on its inherent basis (although there is much to criticize), rather than the fact that the consumption of the franchise increases the material wealth of J.K Rowling and her virulent hate-mongering. The goal of boycotting the franchise is to minimize her wealth to prevent harm. Not to ban the books from the public consciousness, but to starve her funds.

So the discussion must remain on that. Not the themes or plotpoints of the books. In addition, it must be accepted that people who are allied to the cause of boycotting the franchise may non-monetarily consume HP-related media, such as pirating the films, rereading already owned books, or reading fanfiction. I feel that, avenues such as those, must be tolerated. It is up to us in the boycott to provide alternatives, both of non-HP media, and of HP-media which does not fuel Rowling's cause.

A friend of mine has stated she wants to watch the new show when it comes out, so I told her I will pirate and send her files of the episodes so she does not watch it on HBO and support the viewer-statistics of the show. That is a relatively simple solution. Other solutions are weaponizing apathy, such as my convincing several people that the show looks pretty bad, so therefore watching it would be a waste of time. But it is a genuine utility to get pirated files of the new show upon its release and spread it to potential viewers to make sure they do not watch it on HBO.

Macroeconomists are these unknown figures that work at uni's and think tanks and are completely unknown to the public but their ideas slowly worm their way into policy, where it destroys the public and the economy, without the people ever recognizing these monsters in human skin. And how should they? They are modest, boring, overly-academic figures which talk mostly in theoretical figures and have little to do with actual economics, for a time at least.

Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, and their disciples wormed their way into outsized roles that led to the downfall of Keynesianism and have caused much of the present economic disaster. The general public know Reagan and Thatcher, but they fail to recognize the quiet forces of macroeconomic theory.
