Hunk Garrett Appreciation Post!!
Hunk is a genuinely kind person to everyone else on the team. The only time he wasn’t a precious angel was when he found out that Keith was galra, but that was because he didn’t really understand what was going on. He didn’t even get angry or anything either!!
This paladin isn’t just ‘the fat one’. While he is the biggest and has a love for food, he’s not just an eater; he’s a GOURMET CHEF. Remember all those gross altean dishes Coran presented the paladins with? It was Hunk flippin’ Garret that added just enough spice to make them delicious. Remember the Space Mall episode where Hunk gets enslaved in a kitchen and optimistically makes the most out of it as he cooks the best dishes with INGREDIENTS HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE??? HE TURNS INTO GORDON FREAKING RAMSEY BUT WITHOUT THE SWEARING!!! Also, he actually cares about the food he’s eating. He’s not just like Shaggy and Scooby who will eat any disgusting excuse for a meal you serve them. He will actively decline a meal, or sweep it into the kitchen to fix it with some altean spices or whatever’s lying around.
Yes, Pidge (whom I still love very much) isn’t the only nerd. Remember, Hunk was the engineer back at the garrison. (Sure, he may have barfed everywhere but we forgive him, don’t we?) HE ALSO BUILT A GEIGER COUNTER FOR AN ELEMENT THAT DIDN’T EXIST ON EARTH OUT OF A BUNCH OF JUNK LYING AROUND AT KEITHS. Like, that’s gotta count for something.
Hunk is a legitimately good paladin for his Yellow Lion. His personality fits it just right and he likes his lion. He even said that he wouldn’t want to pilot the black lion, even if it made him the leader because it would mean letting go of the Yellow one. Also, he’s good at fighting. He’s probably one of the strongest of the paladins, second to maybe Shiro. He’s not just a clumsy idiot, he’s actually good at doing what he does; fighting the galra. His shoulder cannon is probably Voltron’s best weapon as they most often need to take out fleets of small galra fighters. HE IS AMAZING.

In season one, he KNEW not to trust Rolo, Nyma and Beezer. He KNEW they were up go no good. AND HE WAS RIGHT.
He promised Shay and the Balmerans that he would come back for them. From then on, he did whatever he could to get back and to keep his promise. AND HE CAME BACK!!!
