no fucking. literally. i’m always always ALWAYS thinking about katie’s theory that the reason voltron is so bad is because shiro was originally supposed to die, but then they had to start rewriting it after season 2 to keep him alive. that is literally THEEE only explanation for why the dynamics (of everything — characters’ relationships to one another, the pacing of the plot, the balance between who got screentime and where, etc etc etc) got so weird and fucked up after season 3: because the show was supposed to be one way, and then they had to scramble to change it to fit shiro back in, after having spent 5 episodes setting up the new team without him. (also, i am always thinking about how season 3 was definitely written with audience input from season 2 in mind……because there wasn’t a single fat joke about hunk following a season of. only that. el oh el)

i’m also always thinking about the way voltron was written, with every writer writing a different script for each episode, throwing it in a pile, & then jds & lm sorting through the pile and picking all the parts they liked & stitching them together…..LITERAL NIGHTMAREEEEEE that is not how you write a coherent narrative😭😭😭.

but yeah, i agree. the characters didn’t feel like friends past season 3, imo. it felt to me like the only character relationship the writers had any interest in developing past that point was allura & lance’s, & even that was done sparingly😭😭😭😭😭😭.
