Spottedpaw blinked in surprise. A little bud was peeking out of her thick fur. Usually, cats got their first buds with their warrior names. Only medicine cats got their buds this early. Was she ready to be a warrior? Was she a prodigy? The dark tortie giggled at the thought. Obviously. Of course she was special, her mother always told her so, and Sunstar would have to promote her because of this.
She vaguely wondered what her first flower would be. Maybe a rose. Rosetail had the most wonderful roses. They grew in all shapes and colors. Maybe she would have bluebells like Bluefur. Maybe she would get a special flower all to herself.
Across the clearing, Featherwhisker watched the little apprentice fawn over her first bud. The birds of paradise that encompassed his shoulders seemed to brighten and perk up, almost as if they were growing a little stronger. He raised a brow at the sensation. A new apprentice in prideful, sweet Spottedpaw? He had expected kind and docile Willowpaw, of all Swiftbreeze's kits. However, he could not deny his ancestors. He would not rush her - Spottedpaw would fulfill her destiny in time. For now, she was a wide-eyed warrior-to-be. Maybe it would do her some good to learn how to hunt. Featherwhisker sure didn't know how.
