The first published study about climate change (that I am aware of-- feel free to point out if there's an older one) is an 1896 paper by Svante Arrhenius. He pointed out the link between the greenhouse effect and changes in atmospheric CO2.

Plate tectonics, which the geoscience community now recognizes as near indisputable, was a fringe theory until about the 1960s.

Y'all if you've ever had any passing interest in Pathologic, I highly recommend watching this series. For the uninitiated: it's a half summary, half video essay, half theatrical performance of the famously painful Pathologic, made so you can experience the game in a safer way. It's not a FULL replacement for playing it, there's some context that I think is better communicated via playing it or watching a playthrough of it, but it is an excellent way to experience Pathologic without going through the torture labyrinth yourself.

I have played Pathologic 2, and I can say confidently that Ruby Seals's videos capture the experience of playing it so well. There were moments when I was playing it and I just felt moments from the video echo in my head. Rewatching it shortly after playing it, I felt it resonate with my fucking bones. I cannot stress enough how well it captures what it feels like to play Pathologic- you can get an explanation of the game mechanics and how it feels, but that does not completely capture the despair, depression, anger, grief, guilt, and pain I felt like these videos do.

They're excellently put together, excellently acted, well-edited, well-written, and just legit an incredible thing to watch, and if you have the time or the capacity, I strongly strongly strongly recommend watching them, they are some of my favorite videos on YouTube and I rewatch them at least once a year.

The first two videos cover the Bachelor route and are six and a half hours together, the next video covers The Marble Nest and is three hours, and THIS video coming out in two days covers the Haruspex route and is eight hours long. It's a time investment to be sure, but I promise you it's worth it. (And if it's any consolation, it's less of a time investment/agonizing torment nexus than playing the actual game.)

HAPPY DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH!!!

I whipped this doodle together so I could have a pfp for it- I like the cleaving imagery enough that I'm happy with it but I wish I could represent the other disabilities I headcanon him with(mental disorders, hypermobility, chronic fatigue, frequent illness, whatevers up with his antennas ect he has many disabilities im sure im forgetting some). Considering the fact that Tenna is one of THE most disability-coded characters in the game, I wish he was more celebrated in this fact! And as someone who is both mentally and physically disabled, I always feel the need to step up to the task.

The things I struggle with are a massive part of my life- everyone who's disabled can attest to that. Having to plan your spoon usage for your day, having to find ways around inaccessibility, falling behind, doctors refusing to listen or treat you with respect- it's a day by day process that feels like an uphill climb. When I write about Tenna, something that's important to me is that I show just how difficult it would be to get back up from what he's been through, a battle that he has to fight every day whether he wants to or not. It's tough, and it's hard to accept this part of yourself, but the sooner you do, the sooner you can take care of yourself and live a more comfortable life. Easier said than done, obviously, but I wanted to explain why writing him as disabled as he is is important.

Fellow disabled folk- it's hard, but you're doing a good job and I'm proud of you. You don't need to be an inspiration. Just surviving is enough. You are worthy of that.

The old lady is not in her home. She is at work. She's meant to be what in Italian is called "la portinaia", aka a cross between a doorwoman and cleaner of a residential building. She's in her small "office" space, at the entrance of the building, from where she can survey the coming and goings of the inhabitants. It's a job that has mostly disappeared, but is culturally very clear to us as having the connotation of "potentially gossipy, one-million-percent judgmental woman who sees everything that goes on in the apartment complex, knows everyone and their secrets, and has Strong Opinions™️".
