A stormy night

Grace, who might be considered the closest to the "friend-shaped cupcake who gives incredible hugs" due to their mild-mannered, polite and even at times friendly and happy-looking self. However, Grace was raised in a rather fanatical community of Pearlcatchers that view fatness as "a corruption from the True Form granted generously by Her Light" and this is something especially enforced to them by their mother - causing Grace then to eventually try going into periods of not eating a thing, which invariably ended interrupted by episodes of binging when the stress of it all got to them badly enough. Frankly though, this isn't the biggest of problems this dragon has; that title is taken by their involvement in the series of messes that led to the disappearance of their sister, several months prior to their own breakdown and running away from their community.

On the "weight as a metaphor for greed and corruption" there's Talvikki (ironic, as they're a protagonist rather than an antagonist, with the true antagonists being generally thin people), who did try to embrace this view of themself out of loathing of their situation, of their powerlessness against it along with a tangle of contradictory feelings and beliefs deep within them. They come from a community of people who see magic and weight as moral metrics, so the fatter and more magically inclined an individual is, the higher is the chance this someone will be perceived as "power lusting", "greedy" or even "evil". Even as they were thin while young, Talvi began seeing their own slowly emerging magic as a cursed and evil thing best not used at all, and so they grew managing to pass as a person with no magic who escaped this judgment even as they put on some weight later. Then, they're contacted by someone who not only knows about their magic, but also seeks to strengthen it and, well, things go downhill for them since then. Cue Talvi as a currently draw them - someone in their mid-30s with a role in the war overseas that makes them terrifying and powerful, a gut and alcohol problems to prove their "greed" and a deadly magic to prove their "evil". Yet nonetheless, all they want is to protect their family and their friends/employers.
