A ācathedral moundā created by termites
My NT friend: doesnāt this silence bother u
Me, autistic: are u telling me u canāt hear this incredibly loud fridge
The lights have sound
Electronics have sound
Appliances have sound
If electricity runs through it, it has sound.
Rarely is there actual silence (and that does bother me due to lack of sensory input).
This is why the barn uses me when they think the horses are reacting to a noise they canāt hear. Iāll likely find it (itās usually the heating or the electrical box in the indoor).
I also know when the electric fences are on.
For years I was convinced that I was either hallucinating or had hearing damage, because electronics always made this high-pitched whine that was closer to being felt than heard, and nobody else knew what I was talking about. Then I met other autistic people.
Wait a minute.
ā¦Areā¦are you telling me other people canāt hear the fridge motor?Ā
The constant high pitched whine of electric appliances?Ā
That the world doesnāt sound like radio frequencies?
It already took me 21 years to realise that I donāt perceive light the way normal people do (thanks to astigmatism) and now this?
What else?Ā

I've been following @mycolyco on tiktok ever since their synth-playing fungus first graced my page and this cordyceps-generated synth tune has got to be the EERIEST one yet.

Darker dreams await beneath the former Lakeview Mall.
i think we need to talk about understimulation in adhd more. because whether i like it or not the common person sees me and thinks. oh. ur doing things you like to avoid doing things you donāt like. and itās really not as simple as that. because things that āi likeā can be so subjective. sometimes when i try to do something āi likeā i feel nothing. there is no joy, iām not happy about this in any way, and it feels like such a chore just to try and make myself do it. often times procrastination in adhd isnāt even about being lazy and having fun doing things you enjoy. itās your mind not letting you do anything. you canāt do the thing youāre putting off and putting it off makes you feel stupid but you canāt do it you just CANāT. and itās so frustrating and you end up just doing nothing in particular for hours and hours and you feel like youāre wasting your existence
it's okay to slow down, or take a break. you don't need to be productive 100% of the time. you're a person outside of school / work and that person is deserving of care and rest. go easy on yourself.
A wee grumphieš·

Anyone else, esp. neurodivergent people, ever talk to someone and get elated because youāre like wow :) I am doing a Conversation :) I am doing the Asking Questions and Listening Attentively and Expressing Interest :) I have shared a Joke or brief Amusing Happening and this person liked it :) this person seems to enjoy speaking to me and I enjoy speaking to them :) Iām a person.
I once was talking to someone I admired and they told a joke about our managers and I added to the joke, and they laughed so hard they couldnāt talkĀ and I was like thank you for laughing I have truly never experienced this level of euphoria and also I would die for you now.
