Httyd screenshot you didnt know you needed.

Is it just me or is the HTTYD fandom the most obnoxiously “um actually” fandom there is?

Now hear me out;

You could make a one sentence statement about anything and someone will say “well actually you’re wrong”

or it could be an opinion or a shitpost and someone will take it personally

I feel like that happens more often than it should, meaning every opinion post, headcanon post, or shitpost i see about httyd, it seems that 45% of the people interacting are just saying “you’re wrong actually”

people LOVEEE to do this when it comes to the light fury, whether you love or hate her.

me personally, i don’t like her. and as an example, i made a post a while back where i nicknamed her Toothpaste (i’m not the first one to do that). i made it clear that i was being silly (or at least i thought i did) but i STILL had people commenting “her name isn’t toothpaste actually it’s Luna” or “blah blah would’ve been funnier actually” or “dreamworks never gave her a name so you’re actually not allowed to call her toothpaste because that’s not canon”

and i see it the other way too! i see a lot of pro light fury posts on tiktok and i usually scroll right past (as you should when seeing something on the internet that you don’t like) but the few times i’ve stuck around and looked at the comments, it’s always full of people hating on the light fury and lowkey harassing the poster.

and look, i don’t like her either but i’m not gonna harass some tiktok editor who’s probably like 13 for an opinion about an animated movie that came out over 6 years ago.

and there will always be someone to say, “well actually i’m allowed to do that because i’m autistic and httyd is my special interest so i obviously know more about it than everyone else” and to that i say: ME TOO

i’m also autistic. httyd is also my special interest. and it has been since it came out.. when i was five. fifteen years ago.

just because you see people posting opinions or things that aren’t technically factual about your special interest does not give you the right to harass that person.

just. scroll away.

In conclusion, i love httyd with every fiber of my being, but the fandom space can be really exhausting and no one is talking about how toxic it is. at least not that i’ve seen

I'm sure he doesn't have actual murderous intent to the hunters... right? It's a kids show so they really don't delve into the truly wild death count that the riders rack up.

But like. Does Hiccup actually want to kill them? Does he think that hard about it? I'm sure he's very familiar with death, but how does he feel about dealing it out? He's careful about hurting the Singetails to the point of not fighting effectively, but doesn't flinch at sending countless nameless hunters to Helheim.

Bloodthirsty may not be the right word, but dang!! I wish it was pg 13 at the very least!!

Other bits i really liked from the live action HTTYD:

Hiccup trying to body-check Gobber during the "there will be consequences!!!!" scene, and Gobber barely even shifts -- and then he body-checks Hiccup with half the effort Hiccup put in, and bumps him clean across the room.

"Do i bring my bucket hand for when they set our ships on fire, or my swimming hand for when they sink our ships?"

"[Hiccup] gets his stubborness from his mother." "Yeah, cause Valka was the stubborn one in your marriage."

"Can you not hear me???" "Can YOU not hear ME?"

"Well. I might not snitch on you." "In that case, we might not drop you in the sea."

Astrid demanding of all of them, not just Hiccup, "Are ANY OF YOU taking this seriously?"

Snotlout being like "Um WHY would we take any kind of lead from the guy who just ostracised himself from the entire village?" and Astrid being like "because i said so" and Snotlout's attitude spinning on a DIME and being like "YEAH, exactly, so listen up, gang."

Getting to see some of what happened in the mists to the ships, including glimpses of a water dragon of some kind. When those spines came out of the water some kid behind me went, "Oh, no," which, yeah buddy

Hiccup flinching so badly any time someone claps him on the shoulder or gives him a friendly punch, and that one time that Stoick does it and Hiccup is sent sprawling in his workshop, and Stoick just keeps on talking, not even noticing Hiccup's fall or several attempts to get up. It really highlights the unthinking disregard everyone has for him, that they dont notice his clear flinches or the way he's sometimes knocked clean off his feet by their actions.

the part where hiccup is crawling his way out of the ring at the same time as toothless is crawling his way out of the cove. if not soulmates then why soulmate shaped?

Based solely on the title, this is the first good article that I've seen about the HTTYD live action

As someone who was very openly against the live action in the beginning, i saw it last night and it changed my life

i think it was the first live action i’ve ever seen that is on par with the original.. probably because it wasn’t made by disney tbh

it really was pretty much a shot for shot remake, but they added some stuff that i think really made it better. and they added some dragons from the show and name dropped others etc etc it was cool trust

and oh my god the emotional scenes, the ones that already hit like a dagger to the heart? 10 TIMES MORE EMOTIONAL OH MY THOR

i can understand why people won’t like it or why they won’t be excited for it, but i ask that they at LEAST give it a chance

and do NOT give me that “b b b but astrid isn’t blonde” bullshit. we both know you’re just racist. pack it up
