Hi all, Jake here.

You may have noticed that last week was the first time we’ve missed a show in our over 5 year history. (And how can you call yourself a weekly podcast if you do that!) 

For the foreseeable future, this will be the final episode of Toon Talk Weekly.

It’s been a decision I’ve wrestled with for a long while now and I explain where my thoughts are on the show and what we’ve accomplished on this episode.

From both of us, we wanted to thank you so much for letting us into your daily lives. We hope that the show was a chance to experience new cartoons, have a few laughs, and have a good time each and every week.

On episode 278 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad try to find home for all the puppies in the world when they watch an episode of the 1986 series “Pound Puppies.”

Pound Puppies was a 1986 cartoon series created by Hanna-Barbera and was based on the popular toy line by Tonka. The series was broadcast on ABC for two seasons and ran for a total of twenty-six episodes.

The series follows popular Pound Puppies characters such as Cooler, Whopper, Bright Eyes, Whopper and Howler and their daily antics helping out dogs who enter the local pound. Together they help other puppies find new homes and also assist owners in finding the right puppy for them.

On episode 277 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad try to figure out the logistics of piloting a dragon from the inside when they check out the series “Dragon Pilot.”

Dragon Pilot is a Japanese anime series created and animated by Bones. It’s directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi and Written by Mari Okada. The series currently has 1 season and 12 total episodes and began airing internationally on Netflix in September of 2018.

The series follows Hisone Amakasu, a rookie in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Hisone life is forever changed when she is introduced to the concealed “OTF” -- Organic Transport Flyer, or dragon, inside of the base. She discovers she is destined to assume the role of a dragon pilot and forms a bond with her dragon vessel, Masotan.

On episode 276 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad dig into their fantasy rpg roots when they watch an episode of “Dungeons & Dragons.”

Dungeons & Dragons is based on the role-playing tabletop game of the same name. Originally produced by TSR, the rights to the game were purchased by Wizards of the coast in 1997. The cartoon series aired from 1983 to 1985 on CBS for three total seasons.

The show focuses on a group of six friends who are transported to a fantasy realm. In this new world they take on the role of familiar fantasy archetypes and are lead on their way with their helpful guide, Dungeon Master.

On episode 275 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad revisit the Scooby-Doo gang when they watch an episode from “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.”

A Pup Named Scooby-Doo was produced by Hanna-Barbera and premiered in 1988. The show ran for 4 seasons and 27 total episodes.

The series follows the familiar faces of the Scooby-Doo franchise only this time their together as a group of middle-school aged kids. The show takes familiar cues from the original Scooby-Doo series but leans more heavily into the comedic takes and outrageous situations that the gang may find themselves in.

On episode 274 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad check out the brand new Netflix series everyone’s talking about, “Hilda.”

Hilda is a British-animated television series based on the graphic novels of the same name. The series is created by Luke Pearson and debuted on Netflix in September 2018. 

The show follows the titular character and her deerfox companion, Twig, as they go on adventures and conquer even the most dangerous of monsters. Each episode is filled with wonder, mystery, and a sense of adventure that’s charming throughout.

On episode 273 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad turn into a tiny kid version of themselves when they watch 1986′s “The Flintstone Kids.”

The Flintstone Kids was produced by Hanna-Barbera and is a spinoff of The Flintstones that aired on ABC. The series aired as part of The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera programming block and ran for 2 seasons and 34 episodes between 1986 and 1988. Reruns aired on Cartoon Network in the US from 1994 to 2003.

The show follows familiar characters Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, Wilma Slaghoople, and Betty McBricker as young children. Episodes typically consist of the group of friends going on imaginary adventures or quarreling with the neighborhood bully.

On episode 272 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad check out the 2014 Disney XD series “The 7D.”

The 7D premiered on Disney XD in July of 2014 and ran for 2 seasons and 44 total episodes until 2016. The show is a re-imagining of the title characters from the 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The show takes place prior to their introduction to Snow White.

Episodes follow the seven dwarfs in Jollyland, which they protect from the magical villains Grim and Hildy Gloom. Each dwarf retains their distinctive personality traits while trying to keep Queen Delightful safe from harm.

On episode 271 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad move up to the big city when they watch Disney XD’s “Big City Greens.”

Big City Greens was created by the Houghton brothers for Disney XD and premiered in June of 2018. The series currently has 1 season and 18 episodes but was renewed ahead of it’s debut.

The show follows Cricket and his family, the Greens, and their adventures in Big City. Throughout the series the family must adapt their country ways to people and places throughout the city.

The series follows a small-town police department full of comedic characters and the antics they all partake in. The series main character, Kevin Crawford, wants to be a cop more than anything just like his father who happens to be the Chief of Police. After a rocky start, Kevin joins the force and begins his tour of duty with the rest of the Paradise PD staff.

The show follows the surreal misadventures of two ducks, Whit and Clay, along with their friends Barf and Dottie, the neighborhood policeman Officer Barry, and a neighbor kid named Bug.

The series is set in the medieval fantasy kingdom of Dreamland and follows the story of Bean, a rebellious princess, her naive elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci.

Xiaolin Showdown was created by Christy Hui and aired on Kids’ WB from 2003 to 2006. The series ran for 3 seasons and 52 total episodes.

The show follows four young heroes and their quest to protect ancient artifacts known as the Shen Gong Wu. Throughout their journey, if two warriors claim the right to an artifact, they must compete in a Xiaolin Showdown to determine the rightful owner of the Shen Gong Wu. These heroes must protect these ancient relics from villains who would used them to conquer the world.

The Garfield Show is a French-American CGI animated TV series based on the American comic strip Garfield. The series is executive produced by Garfield’s creator, Jim Davis, and contains 5 seasons and 109 episodes.

The series follows Garfield and his familiar friends such as Odie, Jon Arbuckle, Nermal, and Arlene, as they find themselves in various comical situations. Not all of the episode follow a long arc throughout the series, often aiming more towards a younger audience with it’s storytelling and humor.

On episode 264 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad finally get a chance to check out the online miniseries “Sonic Mania Adventures.”

Sonic Mania Adventures released on the Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel between March and July of 2018. The 5-part miniseries was created to help advertise for the box release of the Sonic Mania Plus video game.

The short follows familiar Sonic characters including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik as they battle over control of the chaos emeralds. Along the way we’re introduced to Ray and Mighty, two new characters playable in Sonic Mania Plus. The miniseries shares a similar style to the original Sonic Mania release trailer and shows off a love for the Sonic the Hedgehog universe for fans new and old to enjoy.

On episode 263 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad leave their worries behind when they visit a magical camp for the summer when they watch an episode of the Cartoon Network series “Summer Camp Island.”

Summer Camp Island is created by Julia Pott and premiered on Cartoon Network on July 7, 2018. The series aired for a 48-hour marathon when it premiered and currently has 1 season and 20 total episodes.

The show follows two childhood best friends, Oscar, an elephant, and Hedgehog, a hedgehog, who are dropped off at a magical summer camp. At this camp, the counselors are witches, trees and objects can transform into monsters, and post-it notes can lead to other dimensions. The two main characters must contend with all of these out-of-place events and make their stay at camp worthwhile.
