I’m not against toon horror concepts (I mean for goodness sake I like BATIM and FNATI) but I feel like if you gonna make horror related to toon content, at least let it be interesting??? Instead of just you know, generic slasher film number 506??

Part of the reason why I’m a little bit more harsher with toon horror content when using public domain characters is bc those characters can be use in far more creative ways in a horror aspect then just “oh let’s have a person to dressed up as an iconic character and likes to kill people” :’) on top of that, horror can be a broad terms so it doesn’t all have to be blood and guts.

Like, low budget horror movies does have its charm don’t get me wrong, but I wish more people would be more creative with public domain toons, and characters in general. Like for example: You can probably make a noir/detective film with toons and still have a horror aspect to them! Or you could do some kind of found footage horror movie with toon characters where the main protagonist snooping around in a place they shouldn’t. Like you know, make it interesting!

This might be an unfair example but imma use it anyways: Bendy and the game itself works a toon horror. Is it perfect? Absolutely not!! But is it interesting? Absolutely!! And Bendy is an indie game so you know it didn’t had a higher budget then it does now (I was there when Bendy first started). It’s interesting bc your trying to figure out what happened in the studio Henry once worked at and how it affected its staff and the characters Bendy itself. Bendy is an antagonist sure but he is his OWN character!! Imagine if Henry was possessed by Bendy this entire time? I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be as popular as it is now…plus we have Sammy who is a worshipper of Bendy sooo

Another example, although not out yet, is the Oswald horror movie! Yes I’m talking about “Oswald: Down the Rabbit hole” that one to me is interesting because there is animation to which you know is something a toon is Known for!! The story so far (from what I know) is that a group of friends gets transported into the world of Oswald while trying to tracked down some information of the main protagonist great grandfather and must find a way to escape before oswald gets to them. I’m pretty sure all is the antagonist of the story and I’m pretty sure they will be some kills but it actually an interesting plot/concept for a toon horror movie

Some other good examples of toon horror I can think of is Bad Cheese and The Vanishing of S.S.Willie (which I would highly recommend watching and their are all done by a small team of people) but the post is getting to long already

Anyways, the point I’m trying to make is that I’m not against a toon horror content, and if you like slasher films with toon characters, then by all means, go ahead and enjoy it!! Heck, ramble about it ifs it’s your thing ^^

It’s just that as a toon enjoyer who also likes horror, this tends to be very tiring and I know slasher films is a more easier way to make horror content when on a lower budget but I just wanna be clear that I’m not against it in any way

Imma use one of their latest comic book collections (which is the one I got for my birthday) for most of the example since it’s the latest proof/evidence I got 

I’m just gonna say for starters in the comics, they usually address both boys and sometimes Chalice as “kids” and I know that people would say the word “kid” in general terms when someone is younger than them but in this case I think they are legitimately kids or at least very young teens

Also!! In the first story of the comic, it had Cuphead, Mugman, and Chalice wanting to join the mafia ONLY because they think it would be fun after watching a movie which is something that I would assume a kid would do after watching something interesting, they want to inmate or at least imagine to be the character in the film

Once figure out where the mafia is located, they thought that they were operating a bubblegum operation And didn’t once think about how the mob was (what I assuming) is smuggling rum. Even later in the story, the mob played around with the bubble gum idea.

Also, Cuphead and Mugman are often given chores it seems, not saying that adults don’t do them as well, but typically kids or teens are given chores.

Once they were given the chores, the boys immediately decided to run away because they don’t want to do the chores in the first place.

Adults usually don’t do that, that’s something a child would do that’s their form of rebelling against their parents or guardian. Of course, later in the story they do come back to Elder Kettle to do the chores. Which is something again a kid would do once they realize they don’t want to run away anymore, they come back home.

I wish I could put more examples, but tumblr only has a 10 image limit but you see what I’m trying to say when I think that Cuphead and Mugman are just a pair of young boys, so it’s weird to me whenever I see them being mainly portrayed as adults when there’s a lot of evidence pointing that they are at least somewhat underage.

Well, that’s just my personal opinion, you’re gonna have Cuphead and Mugman be whatever age you want, but that’s just how I see them personally
