what are your favorite redesigns from each generation?
Ooh this was a hard one– I find I’m really bad at judging my own work since I’m so close to it but I tried to pick some I like a bunch.
This is the first one were I felt super confident and I was like “Yeah this can work” in regards to the redesign project as a whole. These 2 are still in my top faves.
This was the exact opposite feeling to Voltorb, and when I started working on them I felt “Oh god oh no what have I done.” but then it started to click and they kinda just flowed out. It was a lot of fun in retrospect.
I really like the twist I did with these guys, playing up a more western vibe. I’m really proud of working with the lotus imagery turning the lotus root into a gattling gun so Ludicolo became a Kappa Gunslinger.
This was a hard pick because gen. 5 is massive but I really like what I did with these guys for whatever reason. I like that I kept the goofy letter marks on their face but also made them a cool crest/horn shape. I was inspired a lot by the Chinese mythical characters Ox-Head and Horse-Face as well as the Red-Oni Blue-Oni trope and I like being to apply these sort of fun duo characters to them. I think it kinda shows how you can view each Pokemon as something special and unique even if they aren’t your immediate fave.
Just very happy with the shapes, colours and everything about these 2. I feel like they are very “me” if that means anything.
Gen. 7 - Xurkitree/Celesteela
I’m cheating by picking 2 but I genuinly appreciate both for different reasons. Honestly I think Gen. 7 has been my favourite overall generation to cover. that being said Xurkitree was the hugest pain in the whole word, where I was on the verge of freaking out trying to figure out what to do, even up to that day of drawing them. The feeling of when it finally kinda clicked felt so good, even though I was still kinda like “who is even gonna like this but who cares”.
Celesteela was the exact opposite where the whole time it just felt great. I love the colours and I love the shapes and love the whole thing and it was just really fun to put together.
Also since I did the Mega Evolutions as their own thing I’ll include a bonus

It’s just kinda weird and satifying to have an idea and then finally getting to put it together a year later.
