backrooms was extremely nostalgic in a hyperspecific way (the area between santa clara/san jose/milpitas where the diablo range looks much larger on the horizon, spending much of my childhood in sparsely furnished labs owned by people who use them as storage for detritus from their personal domestic lives, minecraft and the gameplay loop of venturing between recognizable overworld space and disorienting, endless cave systems full of monsters) and from what I can gather other people in my age range have similar feelings. it’s kind of funny seeing how infuriating the movie is for millennials
