If “Despacito” isn’t good enough for a Grammy, then it’s as much as saying that no Spanish-language song, regardless of commercial and aesthetic achievement, will ever be good enough for a Grammy. Entertainment may be impossible without hypocrisy, but during a Grammy night thick with pro-immigrant posturing, the snub (and it’s definitely a snub) comes off as worse than hypocritical — it’s close to outright deceit. At least Fonsi and Daddy Yankee aren’t alone tonight. Between Lorde being denied a solo performance, Jay-Z’s shutout over eight categories, SZA’s shutout over five, and Kendrick Lamar being denied Album of the Year for three albums in a row, there’s plenty of justified rancor to go around.

Me trying to explain to the gays why call me by your name and all similar media depicting sexual relationships between teens and adults are detrimental to our community because they can easily be manipulated into a tool for predatory men to groom lonely queers kids who are desperate for affection and don’t have a safe space to explore their sexuality within their peer group.

Me trying to explain to my peers that straight people watch these gay movies too and then use things like the age scenario in Call Me By Your Name to reaffirm their belief in age-old damaging stereotypes and prejudices that gay men=pedophiles, and that sexually coercive power disparity is Gay Culture™.Which is a prejudice that has an actual body count.
