HEATWAVES 2026
It’s generally accepted that people shouldn’t freeze to death in their homes. But when the home is 30-40°C during summer, it’s just „deal with it“ !!!
We can’t ignore this problem anymore.
There should be a law that requires homes (and hospitals, schools, nursing homes, public transportation) to be at a comfortable temperature. We need to build differently, and we need to put shutters up and install AC (Air Conditioning) where it’s needed.
Right now we just ignore the problem.
They also say that more people should take public transportation, but there's no AC. People can't show up to work drenched in sweat all summer. If we want more people to use public transportation, it should be kept at a reasonable temperature—not turned into a sauna.
There should be summer regulations around working conditions, especially for people who have to work in the sun. Working hours MUST be adjusted. I know it's inconvenient, but safety must come first. Shift hours should exclude the hottest part of the day for basic protection, and there needs to be rules around the provision of breaks and the provision of water and cool areas to take hydration breaks in order to alleviate heat stress.
An important part of this is holding corporations and governments accountable: while individual habits are important, things aren't going to change unless the big corporations change their ways or get shut down completely.
