Could you imagine originally being casted to play a main role and then being replaced as the stunt double? Well, look no further than what happened to the locomotives that acted in The General (1926).
Three Oregon Pacific & Eastern locomotives were used for the film. One of them, #4, portrayed the General (THAT General). Two were used to play the Texas (the engine that would eventually crash)- #2 and #5. #2 was intended to be the main and #5 was the stunt double- but since #2 was in better condition than #5, they swapped roles. Tough luck, #5!
