THE DEVIL RODE BESIDE ME.

            Reclusive  instinct  caused  her  to  turn  the  laptop  so  that  the  screen  was  hidden.  She  had  caught  his  wandering  eye  at  a  glimpse  and  had  immediately  went  into  alert  mode.  What  she  was  doing  was  completely  harmless  but  he'd  have  to  realize  that  she  wasn't  the  social  type.  She'd  have  been  much  happier  if  he  got  his  coffee  and  went  about  his  merry  little  day  instead  of  putting  his  nose  into  her  studies.  There  was  no  use  hiding  it  now.  She'd  humor  his  curiosity  and  wonder  if  she  could  make  him  squirm  with  the  information  she  had  about  the  contents  on  the  screen.  The  good  doctor  turned  the  laptop  screen  back  to  where  he  could  see.  One  click  popped  open  a  window  with  a  more  basic  chart  of  one  single  organism.  A  picture  of  large  tarantula  slowly  spun  to  show  every  intricate  detail  on  God's  creation.  ❝  A  new  species  of  spiders  are  emerging.  I've  discovered  the  black  widow  is  expanding  her  mating  horizon  and  mating  with  the  mexican  red-knee  tarantula.  I'd  declare  that  is  weird.  ❞  she  deadpanned  in  response,  eyeing  him  on  the  corner  of  her  eye  before  turning  the  laptop  to  face  her  completely  once  more.

                                   amber  gaze  lifted  to  see  the  other  intrude  carelessly  into  her  space.  A  thought  reminded  her  she  was  in  the  kitchen  and  if  it  was  peace  and  quiet  she  wanted  and  needed  to  concentrate  she  should  return  the  office.    Honestly,  she’d  have  felt  less  interrupted  if  he  just  didn’t  say  a  word  to  her  and  got  his  beverage.    Precariously  the  blonde  watched  the  other  make  his  way  across  the  kitchen  to  the  coffee  machine.    ❝  It’s  in  the  middle  of  the  day,  who  in  their  right  mind  drinks  coffee  this  time?  ❞    Not  everyone  was  blessed  with  copious  amounts  of  energy  naturally  like  the  good  doctor.    Her  accent  sharp,  thick,  and  heavy  as  she  clicked  her  tongue  mockingly.    Clearly  she  wasn’t  hesitant  to  be  cruel  even  to  a  stranger.    Yunalesca  pulled  her  laptop  closer  to  hide  the  images  of  various  arachnids  and  number  charts.

            𝐌𝐎𝐈𝐑𝐀 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐄.  𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐘 𝐒𝐇𝐄'𝐃 𝐁𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐖𝐈𝐒𝐄 ?  It had been a constant game of cat and mouse and right now the woman wasn’t quite ready to give up the chase.  Still though Moira feigned a pout as the blonde pulled away and addressed her professionally.  ❛ Oh, come on, angel    ❜  Moira turned to face the other, gazing at her with contentment.  She pushed her hands into her pockets a cheshire grin tugging at the corners of her lips.  ❛ For starters, Angela, you know the bar scene isn’t my thing.  Furthermore, I guess I shouldn’t tell you I actually got you a gift, should I ?  Oh, never mind, I suppose;  the cat’s out of the bag.  Come now, you’re always so wound up in work and the one time I’ve put my duties on hold, you can’t make this tiny, little exception ? ❜  she feigned absolute disappointment for their situation.

                  𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐀 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐄.  𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐋 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀 𝐆𝐈𝐅𝐓 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅.  He was not particularly husband of the year, or ever for that matter, because old habits be damned.  Mephisto stared at the small box she provided and decided before he’d open his he’d wait for her to open hers.  He looked at her as she took it and opened it;  inside a brilliant black gold amethyst ring.  ❛ I found it quite difficult shopping for you as I’m sure you have plenty of jewelry but I’d be damned if I didn’t get you something. ❜  he said, attempting to display his affections for the woman.  Once upon the devil did love, and he loved heavily, but there was hardly any room in his blackened heart for much of anything.  Perhaps what he felt for his wife was just merely possession of another being, a dominant control over one of his Father’s creatures, he wasn’t quite sure.  Mephisto looked down at the tiny black box she gave him and anticipated a watch given the shape of it.  What use would he have with a watch ??  He untied the ribbon and lifted the top to look inside.  Whatever smile the devil had on his face fell and he went suddenly quiet and still.  A positive    

❛ 𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐀    What do I owe the pleasure of this visit ? ❜  It wasn’t what he wanted to say or ask but it was what he asked nonetheless.  He didn’t dare not take his eyes off her.  He watched her hands peripherally ready to react.  The years spent at her side he’d come to know most of her though regrettably not all of her.  There was a small part of him that he was hoping she was here on good terms.  Cerberus had denied it many times in the past her cruel behavior but he wouldn’t forget now for the sake of all he had to himself; especially his wife.      ╰         @hensynslcs​

Whisper placed down the bottle and came to stand before the blonde, holding out the drink for her to share. ❛ Do you think we'll have a lynching in the morning or do you think Travis and Peter will get to go hunting ? ❜  His voice was low and careful so no one else could eavesdrop.  He really wanted these lands and if he could convince Mina to form an alliance with him and Kira, he’d be at an advantage.      ╰         @hensynslcs​

Oh, Hades ? ❜  the goddess cooed, calling out for her husband.  She looked for him first in her garden which she did not see him.  It was his study where she found him.  ❛ I thought I said no working late anymore. ❜  Persephone walked herself to her husband’s side, where she placed a hand on his back, and leaned in closer.  ❛ You look exhausted, Hades.
