Writing on the Web

The thing I most like about my essay is how everything in the class we have learned about is all coming together in this piece and how the projects we’ve had are a good reference to use during this piece. I think it will be a good piece to end the class on and will wrap everything up nicely.

The thing I am most proud of with my writing process is the way I explain things mainly because I feel I do so in a way that allows the audience to really gather what I am trying to say. A lot of time I’ll go into a lot of detail on points that I really want to be clear and I think it helps the audience I write for.

The main thing I like about my learning is that moment where something clicks. A lot of the time when I’m learning something it just comes with the material but sometimes when I don’t understand the material but I eventually get it there’s this moment of clarity that makes everything make sense. I’d say the feeling of understanding is definitely the thing I like best about learning.

A question I had about web writing development was one that has to do with real world application. When doing web writing for a company I was wondering if there are any strict guidelines or rules that need to be followed other than copyright. I know that the business world can be very strict and any small mistake can cost your career and company so I was curious if there should be any specific things I should follow.

Something I have always wondered about when doing web writing is when doing it for an organization if you should reference yourself in the first person or the third person. I wondered because I know there are writing rules for both and I just don't know how web writing on behalf of an organization falls in to those rules.

The image I have posted is my info-graphic I made for my How To Write Guide. I made it almost to be used as a cheat sheet for content creators. I want to know if this will be viewed as this or if this content isn’t even really necessary for this assignment. I also want to know if it should have more words on it or if it should have less. The idea is that it was just a quick thing but if there isn’t enough for a content creator to work with that defeats the point.

Content creation for the How to Write Guide went not as well as expected mainly because I wasn’t certain on what I was doing. I only created my info-graphic when I probably should have done more. I think the content that I made was good but I needed another element. I will probably add some sort of essay sort of thing this week other than my info-graphic. That way it will be a lot more of a guide rather than a tips and tricks sheet

Another trick that I am using in my how to write guide is to pretend that you are an audience member reading your own content. It sounds a little strange but when you are thinking about it it makes a lot of sense. When reading as the content creator if you don’t think like your audience you aren’t going to know what content to create that's going to either increase your followers or satisfy your current audience

A trick I am posting for content creation is one when doing revisions and making sure your content has no errors. The trick is reading your comment backwards. If you read your content forwards you are not going to catch as many errors because that is how everyone is used to reading but reading backwards allows you to find the errors easier because it allows you to focus more on each individual word.

A question I had regarding the how to write guide is how big this project should be. I was under the impression that it should be something that is small and able to be a reference to content creators but I am worried that I am not giving information for the content creator to have a good guide on how to write content. I am wondering if I should change forms on the project and make it into something different. Currently I have an info-graphic but I feel as though an info-graphic may not be enough space for this project.

Now that this course is shifting to more of a content creation side of things rather than from an academic standpoint I know that I really have to focus on tailoring my content towards an active audience in an online community rather than classmates and professors.
