Concrete Walls and Iron Curtains Chapter 10 sneakpic

"Here's the Haze," Yura heard Nikita say without mirth.
Haze, Maw, Grinder. There was no counting times Sergei mentioned the guardian trio of the Wish Granter. Not saying much, only to avoid either at all costs. There may be a room that grants wishes, there maybe not, Sanya's brother intoned. There were not yet one stalker to enter Grinder and leave.
The Haze was true to the name. The air shimmered and danced over the sandy grassless plane, surrounding the tower that was more air than material. The tower looked like teeth, Yura noticed, and he didn't like how it looked as a mouth about to bite down. Looking closer, he shivered.
"That's right, Beletsky," Nikita stopped at his side. He could discern a path of clear air, leading straight and welcoming to the Maw. More feeling it then seing, Talant urging him. A short road. Never the safe one here.
In Yura's reckon, it would have been a quick walk.
"Haze doesn't seem to cover a roundabout path to the Hollow," Olya pointed out another tower that had been hovering while dividing itself into rectangles, “There’s out next stop.”
She started to lead them around. When the grass had retreated, and the pointwoman stepped on sand, she reached into her pocket and produced a screw-nut with a length of white cloth tied to it. That was stalker business, and with a start, Yura realised that it was right the place for it. He was a stalker now, too.
Olya moved like right out of the novel. She led them around the bend of the sandbank in a careful gait, throwing the nut as she went. Each time she stood attentively, and they all baided breath as the bit of metal pulled its clothen tail through the air in an arc. On the third throw the trajectory of the nut wavered. Yura’s eyes went wide as it hit the pocket of shimmering air and deviated ever slightly to the right. Before it even touchd the ground, the cloth combusted. He saw the grey metal blacken, and white gause burn up with invisible fire.
“Hm,” said Nikita. Olya remained quiet.

Writing scenes in the Zone without outlines, not because I'm lazy, but because that's how Zona works yes yes
I admit I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the field but it seems that as medical practices, psychology and psychiatry haven't even reached the level of "wash your hands before doing surgery"
Have an incredible conviction to concur from the position of another newbie in humanitarian science - International Relations.
The discipline is like, what, 110 years old? We can claim Prince or Leviathan or On War as proto-IR, but in fact they are treatises in their own fields, while IR is very much a syncretic attempt to understand academically relations between MODERN STATES in MODERN and POST-MODERN regimes (after the Peace of Westphalia onwards).
Compared to Biology, we are teenagers. Compared to Physics, we are kids. Compared to Mathematics, we haven't learned how to speak yet. And I don't even want to talk about the ethics of experimentation in IR, because you CAN'T. Experiment ethically, I mean. We do get a lot of data, but the perpetuation of the field itself is built on the exercise of state/corporate power, which is hardly ethical as a concept, to be polite.
It's not a sign of a mature discipline when you study Advanced(tm) stuff in the second year of your Bachelor's.
Though there is a positive/optimistic way to look at it. To rephrase Newton, we have to be the giants on whose shoulders future geniuses will stand.
I don't like how "liberal" is used in place of "status quo supporter", 'round here. I don't like how terms are drifting from a concrete meaning to a rhetorical tool. Maybe it's just like language works, but it makes understanding the world and connecting with people's points more difficult, and I don't like it post now
Like... I swear, I phrased the main source of my irritation while connecting with people on this website as "agree with sentiment/understand the sentiment - disagree with thesis," and it just pops into my brain each time I read a political post around here

No demographic group is inherently evil, some are structurally enabled to benefit at the expense of others.
Flattening a candid analysis of those power structures into "you just hate the empowered demographic in this dynamic" is a reactionary impulse that serves to defend the continuation of that power structure. It does not matter if you intend to do that or not, it does not matter if you think you've found a case where it's true.
When your actions move in the same direction as a system of oppression, you're participating regardless of what you think is the true, pure motive motivating you.
Nobody is inherently evil. Disappointingly many people who can easily do better choose not to, because they're allowed to be shitty without consequences.
That's worse than being inherently evil.

Concrete Walls and Iron Curtains Chapter 9 sneak-pic

She really needed to talk to Yura.
Their chat was quiet - ever since that morning Yura only exchanged a couple of words with her on Saturday, before and after his pre-Crossing brief with her brother. The Crossing was coming, she gathered as much from listening Sergei and Olya talk through the thin walls of their flat. The days before were always the worst, even without the strain Kazarin household found itself under these days. On their first time, one out of three novice stalkers didn’t make it out in one piece. That would be Yura’s first, Sanya was painfully aware.
She checked her phone again. No new messages appeared. She quietly entered her flat, locking up behind. The door to Sergei’s office was ajar, with a ribbon of pale blue light streaming from the crack. He was drooped over his chair, in the dark, with only the monitor giving light to his space. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - god, her brother was old.
“Tomorrow, Sasha,” Sergei said without turning. He wasn’t looking at the game either, his tired face was pivoted to the ceiling without any interest.
Sanya thought about simply walking by without saying anything. He deserved that. But she couldn’t just leave, not now, not seeing him as exhausted as she had been.
“They will be fine,” she said what she wanted to believe.
With a slow turn, Sergei faced her. He nodded, then again, more to himself then to her. Sanya took a deep breath.
“Brother,” she called out, taking Sergei by surprise.
“Sasha, what is…”
“Let me speak, please,” she waited until he was less confused then ready to listen, “I spoke with Sergei a lot lately. Could I speak with my brother?”
She might as well have struck him.
“Yes,” the man breathed out in an acknowledgement, “Sister.”
When was the last time he referred to her as his sister, directly? Sanya did not remember.
“What you did was wrong. You had to… make a call. And you made the wrong one.”
He brother’s face twisted into something bitter right as he brought a hand to his face. Sanya saw, movement by movement, as the man brought himself together. It was Sergei Kazarin who stood up from that chair.
“Pray you will never have to make a call like this,” the man said, and Alexandra Kazarina met his eyes. He was right, she prayed she never had to. She didn’t have to forgive him for this call, too.

hey i'm not sure if anyone's requested these yet but could you do stamps of katya! she's also from pafl ^_^
Haiiii hope you like these!!
What is George Washington's favourite vocaloid song?
Parties are for Losers
This is an incredible joke, actually. I will use it to force one of my friends with a very specific tastes to finally watch pafl.
We passed upon the stair
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
Yuri Beletsky stared at a face that was inexplicably his. That would make sense. After all, Yuri Beletsky had no friends.
Which came at some surprise
I spoke into his eyes -
"I thought you died alone,
a long, long time ago."
The face, eyes thinning in a mocking squint and mouth stretching into a grin and the scar on the right cheek shifting as the head moved into a triumphal tilt, stared back.
"Oh no
Not me
I never lost control.
You're face -
to face
With the man who sold the world"
