Teen Titans Go

Regarding Raven, I just get a strong sense here of complete regret, as well as the obvious anger and betrayal.

Think about it.

She felt suspicious from the beginning. She always had the aid of her empathy to warn her about Terra — and it did. She was warned. She was given the bad vibes, the flashes of visions, the mistrust… and she chose to look past it; to try to ignore it. Whether her decision to do so was because she feared being seen as jealous or trouble-causing by the rest of her team, or for another reason, I don’t know. 

I believe she was very troubled by her initial feelings of anxiety and suspicion towards Terra, especially whilst everyone else was so taken with her. At first, the only other Titan to have any sense and consider remaining cautious towards this new stranger was Robin.

“Everything okay?…”

“Not sure. Something just… doesn’t feel right.”

But then even Robin goes along with it, and is happy to have a new addition to the team. And Raven must’ve felt awful about being the only one still sceptical, like she was going to ruin everyone’s fun, and have the typical negative and anti-social attitude that they’d all expect of her. But it wasn’t typical; it was with good reason. And in this scene, she realises she should’ve acted upon that. She realises that if she had taken initiative, been more persistent, not fallen for what everyone else had fallen for, not followed the crowd… ALL of this could’ve been prevented. And she must hate herself for it. In this scene, she must feel like she’s let her team down so much in choosing to never stand her ground when it came to her suspicions.

“Well. She seems… comfortable.”

“She could stay here with us.” “Yes!” ”… I dunno.“ 

Even after she was made a Titan, these doubtful comments kept creeping up. All the more reason for me to believe Raven never actually wanted her to join in the first place. I think it was a majority vote.

“Don’t forget to lock the door when you leave.”

^ It’s almost as if her subconscious empathy was coming into play here. I know that in context it wasn’t said as seriously as it was meant, but I think Raven actually did fully expect her to leave again. And, low and behold, she was right. That’s an empath for you, right there.

“She learnt a few tricks. Doesn’t mean she’s any less dangerous.”

“Everything okay?”  ”… Can’t tell. Are you sure it’s safe to have her around?…” “Not entirely, but everyone deserves a second chance.”

“You’re not a part of this team. Not yet. And if you endanger my friends again, you never will be.”

It’s endless. Poor Raven tried so many times to act upon her instincts and warn the rest of her team without being seen as a killjoy or envious or quite frankly a bitch. After all, at the time, Terra had done nothing wrong. So what would the team think?  

And all along, she was right. Her instincts were right. Just as she was starting to believe otherwise, she was hurt, her friends could’ve died. I can’t help but feel Raven’s remorse and disdain in this scene so heavily. She must’ve been dwelling so much on ‘what if’.

What if I’d refused to trust her, refused to let her join, confided in Robin why I was feeling so on edge about her? This might have never happened…

Even her dialogue here reflects such ideas as this. 

“I should’ve hit her with everything I’ve got.”

Should’ve. Dwelling on what she should’ve done.

“Terra was never our friend. She was a liar and a spy, trained by Slade and sent to destroy us. She’s evil. Always has been, always will be.”

Past tense.

‘Never our friend’. ‘Always has been’. 

That, to me, is Raven’s dwelling on her past instincts. She is now fully convinced that she’d always been right. The aftershock of her betrayal is sinking into her, reminding her of what she could’ve done, and of how stupid she was to ever believe Terra over her instincts.

And I think her face when Beast Boy objects says it all.
