imagine bruce banner
bruce banner, who has lived in poverty, who has been an undocumented worker, who has seen what happens in sweatshops in india and greenhouses in colombia, fighting to dismantle capitalism and take down the exploitive conditions that come with it
bruce banner, who isn’t doing anything with the massive salary tony pays him for “R&D work” (actually just him and tony in the lab but, hey, tony likes giving people stuff even if they don’t particularly want or need it) so he spends it all on a fund for abused children and personally hires lawyers and therapists for them because maybe he can’t have kids of his own but he can make damn sure that no one goes through what he went through
bruce banner, who fights against climate change and fracking and tapping national parks for resources, and tony ends up making a whole campaign around it called “go green with hulk” which bruce gets very annoyed by but “it tested well with focus groups, jolly green” so it goes through anyway and becomes massively popular
bruce going a little green around the pupils if someone so much as breathes the word “autism” and “vaccine” in the same sentence (and more than a little green if they insinuate that having an autistic child is a bad thing)
bruce fighting for universal health care
bruce working to destigmatize mental illness
bruce hulking out on the set of fox & friends (which predictably becomes a meme)

Bruce is exhausted, he doesn't want to show it, but Tony is there to show that he will never have to force himself to be someone else with him.
Notes:
Set just after the precedent story.
Reading it is not necessary, but a little reminder:
Tony survived thanks to Strange but is dead to the world except for Pepper, Happy, Morgan, Rhodey and of course Bruce.
They both learn to live together on Bruce's beach.
Tony made Bruce a bracelet that allows him to switch between Bruce and smart Hulk.

Bruce stifled a yawn and realized he had just read the same paragraph three times while waiting for Tony to finish his shower.
He knew he had to make dinner, but the good thing about not having to work was that you were much more flexible with your schedule.
Bruce struggled to keep his eyes open.
He was exhausted.
Every night since Tony had joined him, they had been talking until late.
Maybe to make up for lost time, or to enjoy the time they had because they didn't realize yet that they weren't limited by it anymore.
"Just a few seconds..." muttered Bruce before he put his head back and closed his eyes.
The few seconds quickly turned into a few minutes and Bruce didn't see the fond look Tony gave him as he entered the living room.
"Aww too sweet..." whispered Tony.
He admired for a few seconds his lover so peacefully asleep.
His lover.
Tony still could hardly believe it.
His friend.
His lover.
His love.
He wasn't ready to give him the last title out loud yet, but the feelings were there.
Tony knew it.
It was only a matter of time.
He gazed at the sleeping face for a while more, and then, unable to control himself any longer, Tony leaned over and gently kissed Bruce's forehead. When he stood up, he saw the corner of Bruce's lips curve upward in a smile that told him he was awake.
As he didn't open his eyes, Tony leaned down again and kissed him on the lips, whispering, "Is my sleeping beauty awake?"
Bruce raised his arms and pulled Tony toward him, causing him to topple over with a small yelp, until he was straddling Bruce.
Bruce reached up and stroked his cheek, "Hey there...handsome."
Tony looked at him with a concerned expression, and traced the dark circles under Bruce's eyes with his finger, "You look exhausted, honey."
Bruce shook his head in denial but couldn't suppress a yawn.
"We still need to get dinner ready."
He made a move to get up, but Tony firmly put his hands on Bruce's shoulders to stop him.
Then he stood up and pointed at him, "Professor Banner, you sit here, I'll be back in a few moments."
Bruce protested, "Tony..."
Tony shook his head, "I don't want to hear about it. You stay here."
He looked around, took a cushion from one of the chairs and placed it on the coffee table in front of Bruce. Then he lifted his lover's legs and made him rest his feet on the cushion.
He leaned over and kissed Bruce lightly on the lips, "Rest, I'll be back."
Bruce smiled and nodded, no longer having much strength to protest. He closed his eyes again and dozed, aware of Tony's presence as he heard the sounds coming from the kitchen.
A few moments later Tony returned with a tray that he placed on the table. It was filled with small, easy-to-eat sandwiches and bites.
Tony sat down next to Bruce and handed him a small bite.
Bruce grabbed it and tasted it with pleasure.
"Home delivery, perfect, right?" said Tony with a wink.
Bruce nodded gratefully.
They shared the meal as Tony rested his head against his shoulder.
When they finished, Tony took Bruce's chin in his hands and said, "You know you don't have to pretend with me. No need to look strong. Just you. I want it all, the good and the bad, everything. If you're tired, if you don't feel like doing something, you just say so."
He punctuated his words with a light kiss on Bruce's lips before wrapping his arms around his waist and letting his head rest on his lover's chest.
Bruce, awed, murmured, "Thanks Tony..." and dug his fingers into Tony's hair.
He felt his body heavy with the tiredness that was weighing him down and he thought it would be better to go to bed now, but he felt so good at the moment, with Tony's weight on his chest, his arms around him, his hands in Tony's hair. It was all far too nice to move.
Lulled by the sweetness of the moment and driven by exhaustion, his eyelids closed and he let himself go, leaning comfortably against the back of the sofa.
He wanted to tell Tony how much he loved him, how precious these moments were to him, but he was so tired he couldn't even articulate a word.
Tomorrow.
Tomorrow he would tell him.
They had time.
He would tell him when they were both fully conscious.
But for now, he felt himself drifting.
He was only aware of Tony's breathing on his chest and the warmth of his body pressed against his.
