Sideblog of space-unicorn-dot for my video game blorbos obsessions containing lots of reblogs, some original screens, and acting as a hc home for said oc blorbos! Now playing: SWTOR, Greedfall, FFXIV, etc. See pinned post for more!
My name is Dot (she/her) and this is my little corner of the internet where I scream into the void about the various pixel beloveds from video games! This is a much more organized sideblog to my main, @space-unicorn-dot, so that's where follows and likes will come from, and I generally operate reblogs on the queue system to share here interesting things from the games currently eating away at my brain!
Amidst that are some occasional fanfic written by yours truly, many of my own screenshots of my seemingly ever-growing list of ocs, and oc development rambles. Whatever games I'm playing and am in my feelings over are generally because of story-related reasons, and especially for characters! So, I love developing my blorbos and pondering their motivations - and wherever that leads them in their stories!
This blog does contain spoilers that I make an effort to tag when it refers to more recently released content. Primarily, those interests are Star Wars: The Old Republic related, but I am finally returned to Final Fantasy XIV. A general "spoilers" tag may be used to cover things broadly, but I'm most active in my SWTOR tag. SWTOR spoilers should be covered by both a general "swtor spoilers" tag and, if it's relevant to a recently released patch relevant to the post or queue date, "swtor [name of patch]" without the brackets and "swtor #.#" referring to the patch number. I'm trying to stay on top of tagging at least the expansion relevant to what I'm getting back to posting for FFXIV, but the previous general spoiler-tagging protocols may apply. If it's something I am originally posting, spoilers will generally be contained underneath a cut if it's a text-based post including a description prior to the cut of what it may be spoiling. If it's an image-based post, refer back to general spoiler tags and I will make an effort to tag anything relevant to the type of spoiler it may be.
Some other rotating interests are also contained within the blog, including a phase of Baldur's Gate 3 content, Dragon Age, and, most recently, Greedfall. My adventures in these worlds can be found in their relevant tags in the below "Tags of Note" section, if you're here for something specific!
If there is Imperial Agent posting in the SWTOR tag, please know that is essentially my summoning circle, lol. You may use your agent or questions about my own set of them to summon me Final Fantasy style.
Additionally, I have a list of my more regular/prominently mentioned ocs here! If a particular character has caught your eye and you'd like to learn more, they generally have their own tag that is referenced in the masterlist!
Tags of Note
#dot words - Used for my writing! Includes completed pieces and snippets from games like WIP Wednesdays and Six Sentence Sundays.
#dot talk - A general rambles tag. Used for commentary, occasional unprompted headcanons posting, interactive tag games with the community, and other miscellaneous posting that may not fit categorically elsewhere.
#answered - Catch-all tag for answered asks, including both writing prompt fills that should share in the writing tag and headcanon/character development related asks.
#dot's bg3 tag - A tag specific to my own postings of Baldur's Gate 3, since SWTOR was the first big love of my blog.
#dot's dragon age tag - A single tag for all things Dragon Age original to this blog. Because I'm accepting my fate and sometimes I want to look specifically for all of it, but not specifically by a single character. Oops.
#dot plays greedfall - My personal Greedfall experience tag, as I'm afraid I've fallen hard and fast into the sweet embrace of madness, lol. The highs, the lows, the epic misadventures of not having using a progression guide, and my open love letters to the fascinating character that is de Sardet may be found contained within this tag, which naturally also means storyline spoilers are likely also present. General Greedfall continent from the lands of the Tumblr seas (aka rb/queed content) will be tagged #greedfall.

@justkindareblogthing why friend, thank you for asking, I'm always down for a rant 😅
my take on Artus is that he's a manipulative asshole. not even because of the whole supporting Sith again policy (even though I think Mandalore the Preserver would've had an aneurysm), or because of how sad Torian's story is. but rather on a personal level.
the first thing that didn't sit right with me during my BH playthrough was the blooding ritual on DK. we have just survived a brutal series of manhunts culminating in killing a Jedi. our reward? "please go kill this ancient horror, would ya". tf? the whole Great Hunt is already presented as a way to find the strongest hunter of this generation, why do you need me to kill this thing that lived on DK for ages and doesn't really have any bearing on the current events?
and then he surprises us with the adoption.
well, man, idk. you just risked my life on a ritual I never agreed to, never understood, and maybe never even wanted. what if the BH never aimed to become a Mando in the first place? they should decide whether they want to take that risk for that status. that alone is asshole-y enough in my book, even if we don't question the necessity of it (again. we just won the Great Hunt. killed a Jedi in personal combat. if Lok wants to offer us a place in the clans so badly, isn't that effort already worth it?)
but if we do question the necessity of it... there is an explanation plausible enough, and it comes to the surface when we get to know Torian.
at some point in the course of his personal quests, Torian starts asking "do you. do you even know Resol'nare and stuff. anybody said anything to you during your adoption?". we have an option to say "some shit sure has been said by Mandalore in that language of yours, could've been talking about the weather for all I know" (sic). and that. that points at a serious fucking Problem.
bc that's the fact - no one mentions anything about Mandalorian responsibilities during the whole adoption sequence. we don't yet know about the Cadera schism, why it occurred, what it meant for those who lost. we don't know the language ffs!
we don't know that this sweet tough old guy can and will kill us should we not do what he says. and the rest of our adoptive culture will be very cool with it.
combine that with how 'transparent' the adoption was, and here's what I think: it was never about us. it was about Lok wanting power over us.
fortune being what it is, the Great Hunt winner isn't Mandalorian. isn't bound by their law and custom. letting them stay that way? lol no, Lok wants them to answer to him. preferably in general, not just on contractual terms.
he can't force it - the BH is not a child, traditional Mandalorian force-adopting is out of the question. they have to accept his offer willingly. what he can do, though, is lessen the chance of refusal.
so Lok gets us into a fight we can likely win while not feeling like it's trivial (young clansmen get smaller beasts, you? you're Special, you get the one they're scared of). then, while we're high on victory adrenaline and all that fawning from the boys on-site, he makes a casual offer. of course you can refuse, but hey, you're just so cool, we want you in our big family. don't think about what else it means. let's get a drink instead.
okay, but maybe we get something from it as well? clan support? home base? Mandalore looking out for us?
a giant flip-off is what we get.
when shit hits the fan with Seros framing the BH for everything but the original sin, all Lok does is send a condolence letter. doesn't try to buffer us from the Imps like Tormen, give some sort of shelter from the Pubs, some intel to help with the clearing-our-name business, anything. not even a worthless public statement "hey, this guy is ours, you have beef with them, you will eventually have beef with the Mandalorians".
and that's what solidified my opinion of Artus Lok as a steaming heap of dung.

For the ask game: 11. 22 and 31 for whoever speaks up loudest?
Thamk you beloved tungle friend! I am on an XIV kick rn actually, so I'm going to rattle one of my lil wol guys in the gumball machine <3
[ character questions list ]
11. Are they spiritual or religious?
Yes, and I think it's more than he realizes, because he'd probably answer this question himself with a somewhat noncommittal shrug and mumble that he doesn't know much about all of that.
But for all the trials and tribulations related to it, Jax was born by the sea and orphaned by it, and grew up in the charge of those that lived close to the waters still. That alone I think is something akin to spiritual to him. He still... hesitates to call it home. He does not claim with the same readiness as many Lominsans that he is born of the sea; some of it for the related and yet not quite memories of his somewhat trouble-ridden youth, and perhaps somewhat for the memory of making it to Eorzea with little more than a prayer and then-unfamiliar company in traveling partner, Ambrose.
But so go a tide, so, too, can go the ebb and flow of life. And, plainly, Jax is... not above seeking the comfort of wishing to some mysterious power. Or... frankly, even just relying on the bonds forged of shared purpose. In that, I think he finds something a little spiritual, too.
In seeking belonging, he began to seek purpose. That is something he has found in throwing in his lot with not just the Scions and their grand dreams of a better tomorrow for Eorzea, but even in throwing his lot in with Ambrose when they fled together from their different pasts. Inescapably, the belief that people deserve... good? Good things? Burns bright. And he's found having a little faith in hope, and the will of the hopeful dreaming of peace, to be of much comfort.
It's a lot kinder a life, he thinks, than throwing all away into the abyss of despair.
22. Are they a good liar?
Yes and no, lol. He's not a crafty liar. His emotions quite frequently sprint across his face, and his expressions are rarely subtle. He can stumble and stutter a little with one, and in trying to dodge a question he doesn't want to address he can be somewhat painfully obvious.
What little 'good' he's had with it is mostly in deflection. In those that either try to keep up with how quickly he runs through speaking or start to lose attention because he's babbling again, and he's found his opening to deflect enough to make an exit from the situation. The fast lies - the ones that get you out between a rock and a hard place.
Certainly not about how he feels. Not a long game about something to hide. He's horrible at those. They eat away at him. Like an animal desperate for relief from a biting instinct, he can't help but gnash after it.
And to tell the truth? He doesn't particularly like lying. And he loathes to entertain doing things he does not like. Especially when it's something like... important. Like how he feels. Like... trying to have friends. Somewhere to belong.
So... no, actually. Jax is a shit liar. Sometimes, just sometimes... it might even be on purpose. [Because he might be equally bad at times about actually talking about things he's trying to avoid. Because he hasn't figured out how to carry it alone. Sometimes 'coping' is a little bit trying to figure out who notices he isn't doing it well.]
[Sometimes it's nice people notice. Even if he gives them trouble for it.]
31. Do they hold grudges?
Terribly. In that yes, he absolutely holds onto things. And also he should very notably have a grudge against Ren (@dieicarian) - and does, don't mistake him - for lying to him. For using him.
And also that said grudge didn't stop him from getting his messy feelings all tangled up about the guy and still working through said grudge while they got up against walls and still kissed. And that he'd still brawl bar style with Brass Blades over the guy. Because sure, he's hurt that Ren appears to have used him. He's fucking sour about it.
And he can accept that that isn't the entire story. And Jax still wants to hold onto him. Because he felt listened to. And Ren still cared enough to be mad at anyone else that seemed likely to try to use him.
And also yes, in general, Jax is terribly sour and holds onto things. Regardless of who it is. Because he has a huge wound shaped like wanting to belong and fit in with people, and he hates when people take advantage of that. And he hates how childish being upset about it makes him feel. Like he doesn't know better.
And in general, Jax is someone who I think frequently feels deeply. As much as he wants to belong, he doesn't want "fitting in" to cost him his sense of self. Nor anyone else. He doesn't want "fitting in" to cost "because I said so" as the only reason someone'll give.
And it doesn't matter if you can logic what you did to him if you won't accept that his feelings were smarted anyway. It can make him even more bullheaded if you don't cede that you caught his fingers in the mouse trap whether you wanted to or not.
And it's not fair, and if you try to say life isn't fair, then he'll say that's not fair. It shouldn't be like that. And by the bloody fucking Twelve, if spite is all he's got to make it more fair, then he's bloody going to, just you wait!
So, uh... yes. He can hold a terrible grudge. For better or for worse, he can hang onto things for quite a good while.
uuhhmnmnmnmnmnbbmbmbm i'm xiv-brained atm so uhhmmbmbmb OH i haven't dropped my housing pics. I got to get really into decorating Jax's apartment and have been really really pleased with the results.
I don't have pics from every angle but the long and short of the goal was mixing how Jax would keep a space that was his own (his own own, for the first time ever in his life) w/things that remind him of his friends. Spaces with his friends in mind. Like fishing poles and a lure collection for when he goes fishing with them. Space not only for Jax himself, but for his friends to exist in the same place as well.
I also started working on Triple Triad-ish. And I'm making it Jax's problem that I hate counting the little numbers on the side, I know he'd be so allergic to the idea of doing math in the fun card game. This does not stop him from feeling slightly competitive despite being challenged by several of the rule sets however.
Ambrose, on the other hand, thinks of them kind of like I do pokemon cards (sorry pokemon) in that she just thinks the pictures are fun and wants to collect and organize them that way.
hello agents georg. your mission if you choose to accept it is to tell me about the correlation between your agents and james bond (as you implied somewhere in a post i can't find)
HELLO. I'm sorry I teased this and then didn't actually drop it immediately. The list 'readily available' is only in my mind and some distant dm and life lifed a lot and trying to translate it from my brain into words was hardeded.
Mkay. So. This is... I guess I should largely say who I do have readily figured out is more specifically Tyr and Alucren, which makes sense because I made them to foil each other, essentially. Fun aside, Alucren was my answer to examining some of Tyr's core traits since Hunter, as-written and as he appears in game, misses the mark on drawing that out of Tyr. Which is not to say anything against as-written; but simply that I wanted to explore common themes that occur in the fanon around Nine and Hunter, and as they were, that wasn't working.
So along came Alucren. And the Bond comparisons specifically probably clicked... one day when I was rewatching Quantum of Solace, in particular.
So, buckle in besties. This will largely focus on the Craig-era Bond portrayal in film, as he's the primary Bond I grew up with, but my understanding of the character is also sprinkled with some of Pierce Brosnan's portrayals as well, and an honorary mention will probably be made to approximately the first hour or two of IO Interactive's 007: First Light, yes because that's all I made it through so far. Oops. >.>
The kind of short and sweet version is that a lot - I mean, a lot - of Tyr's overarching story is heavily influenced from Bond and M's dynamic as seen through Casino Royale through about Skyfall. Bond and M, again, are one of the primary influences on how I read Tyr's relationship with the old man, formerly Keeper turned the late Minister of Imperial Intelligence.
If I had to say one movie and one movie only for someone to watch a Bond film and understand Tyr, I'd... probably end up in a pickle between Casino Royale and Skyfall. My personal bias leans me towards Skyfall.
Because Skyfall takes a long look; Skyfall is a heavy-handed influence and inspiration for my interpretation of Tyr's perspective and who he is not only in ImpIntel, but after the agency has collapsed. One of the best scenes in that movie for this purpose, is the poem M recites in a scene towards the end:
Another short way I could say this is... one could say, not wholly incorrectly, that Tyr is Bond at his most refined moments, and Alucren is a lot more towards the impulsive end. Which is... fine. In that it's not wholly incorrect.
But it's important to Bond's characterization that he's not only one or the other. And it's equally important to Tyr and Alucren that they are equally not wholly one or the other end of the spectrum.
Casino Royale has successfully colored at least one mutual's understanding of Tyr and you know who you are /lh. It's important that Tyr is someone who operates on trusting his own judgement, regardless of what his orders are. It's important that he cooperates with the authority in his role (Keeper to him, or M to Bond, if you will), but he goes off the script. And has a track record of doing so in a way that characterizes his successes. It's an important element of the kind of trust and respect that Tyr holds for Keeper that they have an unspoken understanding of these boundaries.
And it's important to not discount the capacity for recklessness in Tyr. He's someone I know to be very charismatic. Disarming in how readily he adapts to a situation that makes you nearly believe it's all to plan. That it was always going to turn out okay. But he runs a lot more on intuition than maybe the textbook would like him to. And that's exactly why he's a valuable operative to Keeper - and thus the kind of intuition Tyr values heavily in his own work, and when he looks for talent in others.
Quantum, then, heavily characterizes Alucren for the most part. Alucren does not have the same level of refinement on those talents, the same level of polish. His intuition does not operate the same as Tyr's. He misjudges. His entitlements make him misstep. He's hotheaded. It's a lot she'll half chide herself for later in life. Her younger self was a real righteous prick, wasn't he?
There is also one scene in Quantum, the small discussion before the final confrontation, where Bond asks Camille if she's ever killed someone. Oh good, there is my dm yapping about this because I can't find the damn scene. I can find the score for that sequence but not the scene. Okay you're getting the copy and paste bc I already put in the work lmao.
[inhales] okay. somehow the internet is failing me and there's not. a direct clip of the precursor to this scene which is. bond asks camille, have you ever killed someone? and then when she doesn't really respond, his explanation for what she needs to do is like. training will tell you that, when the adrenaline kicks in, you should compensate. but part of you is not going to believe that training because this kill is personal. take a deep breath. you only need one shot.
Sorry I'm just. I'm copying and pasting scenes again and then you'll get words.
So. The ones I have scenes for are... I think I harp a lot sometimes on the emotional element of Tyr, I gotta be honest lol. I'm so interested in that guy's psyche. Pulling the scenes with Camille is another instance of that.
It's the connection. It's the emotional grounding. It's the having a reason to push past your limits. Tyr's reckless. Bond's capable of being reckless. They wager against the house when they think they've got a sure bet. It does not always work.
A lot of the times, it does.
Alucren is... Tyr could kick her ass. Full stop. And they have slightly different specialties when it comes to armament. Alucren will never be as comfortable at long range or really, really up close as Tyr is. And she has a much harder time regulating, controlling her own emotions... than Tyr does, when it comes to the job.
Alucren becomes capable of the same brand of recklessness Tyr is when she has something really personal to fight for. Because she learns that from Tyr. She learns from Tyr that... staking something on your own values, sticking to your own beliefs... that's the kind of person she wants to be. That was the kind of man she was not, in her youth.
Which is the emotional element of it. This range of... not only a very successful agent on the mission outcomes end. On the skillset capabilities. But of the nuance in between. The moments of reactivity. Learning from the times they got the best of you.
Sticking to it even if it's steered you on an unexpected course. When everyone else has told you that's what makes you a liability risk.
There is also, inescapably, a very crucial part of who Bond is that I could simplify as... the fucking audacity.
IO nailed this so well for me in First Light - what I did play of it. I remember the from the first time Bond meets M, they have him sitting with the secretary or whatever. And it's not all scripted, but in the silence of being left to wait, they throw you several series of 2 dialogue prompts. Needling for information, you could call it. But what had me in stitches was, You're very talkative, aren't you? Man cannot sit there and shut up. To save his fucking life. And... I had already felt so pleased with everything before that, right, but god... God was it ever another moment where I had that game in my hands and knew they nailed it. They nailed Bond. The snappy commentary. Not always smoothly charismatic, as liable to get him into a little extra trouble as it is actually land another lead.
This is not an absent quality in Tyr. He just might be a little quicker at concealing it. He's very good at that job, including against himself sometimes. And it sure as hell isn't wrong to say Alucren will not shut the fuck up. Alucren will wear three inch heels and get every goddamn centimeter jammed in her maw for not knowing when to fucking shut up.
So... yes, in short. It's about the action. It's the competency that arises from improvisation and thinking on the feet and the training. It's also in the blunders. And the refusal to take no for an answer. It's in the charisma and the irritating stubbornness.
Some of the particulars are influential on Tyr as well. The story of him being an orphan comes right out of my memories of Skyfall, I have to admit.
I strongly believe that movie is good enough to stand on its own even if you hadn't watched Casino Royale, but it is a treat to watch it from the start. Admittedly, a great deal of my fondness for the Craig-era films is from the fact that it is sort of one looped, growing narrative. It wasn't so inflated and self-referential on a Marvel scale, where it's hard to keep track and know where to pick up from. But if you knew where things started, it added another layer to the anticipation.
And it's still some of my favorite cinematography.
OH. OH and title themes. God, I couldn't talk about Bond and forget title sequences jesus okay. So. The one that I really, really have paired is Alucren and Quantum's title sequence song, really. That's an integral part of her playlist for me. Load bearing inclusion. Fuck it, yes give me the one with the title sequence. Little bit of a flashing lights warning for this though.
A good Bond title sequence to me has references to what you're about to learn and watch unfold in the title sequence itself. To me. Inescapably good quality of any Craig-era Bond film I can think of readily.
With how heavily I favor these damn films, there's probably a touch of something in about every agent I have. Or I could find something, if I dug long enough. But these two are my primary culprits - in hindsight, the most "intentional," if you will, if you can call realizing it several years later intentional, lol.
