what’s the books you read about the American civil war please? I saw you rebloging them in like 2020-2022; I really want to know

omg there's so many lol. I own like 7 books just on Sherman.

I'll give you my favs:

Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson (This is a GREAT overview of the entire war, I totally recommend this one)

Grant by Ron Chernow

William Tecumseh Sherman: In The Service of My Country by James McDonough

also, if you want more of the personal family stories about Sherman there's a really old biography called Sherman: Fighting Prophet by Lloyd Lewis. The problem though, is it was written in 1932 and the author didnt cite his sources the way authors do today, so it's a lot of "according to a random family member of Sherman this happened..." with a giant list of sources in the back with no way to easily track down where the info came from.

Grant and Sherman: The Friendship That Won The Civil War by Charles Flood

and if you know a bit about Gettysburg, I really liked Meade At Gettysburg by Kent Masterson Brown, but I'd recommend reading a general book about Gettysburg first like the one by Stephen Sears.

#also of course the memoirs written by Sherman and Grant themselves I really liked those #I have the annotated copies of both which explain background info #the sherman one was just published in the last year too
