The Slaughter? That doesnât sound like me but wow. o_o
... yeah, that makes sense.
I got The Hunt too
not to hop in on the Hottest Discourse but:
age gaps arenât inherently bad between adults, but they are incredibly suspect in instances where one party has significantly more agency and experience due to their age. a thirty year old dating a forty year old, for instance, isnât all that big a deal. but an eighteen year old should be VERY suspicious of a thirty year old wanting to get with them. theyâve had twelve years to establish themselves as an adult. an eighteen year old has had maybe a few months to do so.
iâm saying this as a person who briefly dated a thirty year old at age 19 (it wasnât good lol), and also as a person with happily married parents who have a 12 year age gap. the difference is that my mom was in her thirties when she met my dad; sheâd had plenty of time to find a career and a name for herself in the world.
stay safe, love urself, try to make good decisions but donât beat yourself up if youâve ever been the victim of an unbalanced or abusive relationship
I need yall to understand that healthy 30 year olds look at 19-year-olds and see kids. Not in a demeaning way â but in a way that automatically removes that 19-year-old from romantic consideration. And even if you âlook very mature for your age,â a healthy 30 year old will learn you are 19 and back out of that crush at 90 mph no matter how good your contour game is.

I think the best piece of character design advice I ever received was actually from a band leadership camp I attended in june of 2017.Â
the speaker there gave lots of advice for leadersâobviously, it was a leadership campâbut his saying about personality flaws struck me as useful for writers too.Â
he said to us all âyour curses are your blessings and your blessings are your cursesâ and went on to explain how because he was such a great speaker, it made him a terrible listener. he could give speeches for hours on end and inspire thousands of people, but as soon as someone wanted to talk to him one on one or vent to him, he struggled with it.Â
he had us write down our greatest weakness and relate it to our biggest strength (mine being that I am far too emotional, but Iâm gentle with others because I can understand their emotions), and the whole time people are sharing theirs, my mind was running wild with all my characters and their flaws.
previously, I had added flaws as an after thought, as in âthis character seems too perfect. how can I make them not-like-that?â but thatâs not how people or personalities work. for every human alive, their flaws and their strengths are directly related to each other. you canât have one without the other.
is your character strong-willed? that can easily turn into stubbornness. is your character compassionate? maybe they give too many chances. are they loyal? then theyâll destroy the world for the people they love.
it works the other way around too: maybe your villain only hates the protagonistâs people because they love their own and just have a twisted sense of how to protect them. maybe your antagonist is arrogant, but theyâll be confident in everything they do.
tl;dr âyour curses are your blessings, and your blessings are your cursesâ there is no such thing as a character flaw, just a strength that has been stretched too far.

when ppl act like the goal of anti-nazi ppl is to ââchange their mindsââ about their ââbeliefsââ like⌠thatâsâŚÂ
we donât give a shit about their ~beliefs~??? I dont care if mr dick is sittin in his house thinking jews are awful. I would LIKE for him to not think that but I ultimately do not care. I do not care about changing his thoughts.Â
i care about preventing him from having enough of a public platform that he and people like him gain the power to ACT ON those beliefs.
so yes actually! punching nazis when they are trying to be suave on television, such that they are unwilling to try to go and appear suave on television again, does accomplish that.Â
i dont care what mr dick thinking in the privacy of the hole he crawled out of, at this point. we are at a point where there are way more pressing things regarding nazis. which is like. nazis get to be suave on television.
bro you better shut the fuck up before i look at you one day and feel warm and realize iâve fallen in love with you bro. im serious quit it dude

So glad Radio Silence, More Happy Than Not and They Both Die At The End are here!
remember when jared leto absolutely terrorized his suicide squad castmates and turned himself into a laughing stock bc he misinterpreted what method acting is, only to have 7 minutes of screen time and be cut from most of the filmâs promotional material? i know it was a while ago now but i dnt think anything more satisfying will happen in our lifetime
ok but the full extent of margot robbieâs vindication is frankly legendary. she wanted a better chance to relish her role as Harley so, like an absolute icon, she went to warner brothers and pitched a movie to then. now weâre getting an r rated girl gang movie about harley getting out of her shitty relationship w/ joker and going on a chaotic ass roadtrip with a bunch of other female heroes. itâs going to be the first superhero movie directed by a woman of color and there are multiple major characters of color, including a Latina lesbian. can you believe margot robbie obliterated jared letoâs tired ass joker with one fell swoop?
and two really important updates: 1. all planned future appearances of Jared Leto as the joker (Joker solo movie, Joker/Harley movie, etc) have been indefinitely tabled, including his planned appearances in the Suicide Squad sequel, where heâs pretty much the only cast member of the first movie not returning 2. The Joker is confirmed to have a cameo in Margotâs Birds of Prey movie (likely for the scene where she leaves him). Theyâve opted to use a body double for the part rather than inviting Leto to reprise his role

I have a very vivid memory of sitting in a first grade classroom (first grade was my first actual classroom because my mom homeschooled me for kindergarten) thinking âI am literally going to die, I canât live one more minute without reading a story, but Iâve already gotten my book confiscated for peeking at it during class and I have no backup book and Iâm going to dieâ and then thinking in a burst of divine inspiration âWHAT IF I TELL MYSELF A STORY INSIDE MY HEAD. THEY CANâT TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME. PHYSICALLY THEY CANNOT.â
they could not
But then when I was in second grade (at a different school, because I told my mom I wished I could die so I didnât have to go to school any more and it alarmed her so much she got me sent to a Montessori-influenced magnet school instead) we had spelling âpre testsâ on Mondays where we were given (out loud) a big long list of words to write down, all on a theme (like say âtreesâ) and ranging in difficulty from simple (âleafâ) to complex (âdeciduousâ), and depending on how many you spelled right, your spelling words to study for the week were either the simplest set, the medium set, or the most complex set.
Great system, right? Except that I was such an insufferable little bookworm I routinely got them ALL right, which resulted in me being excused from spelling most weeks and told to write a story instead, which is really how it all began, because until then I hadnât written anything down.

Inadvisable fantasy worldbuilding concept #137: a setting where the petty gods immediately strike down any structure more than a couple of storeys tall, and the only way to construct a large building and keep it up is to ritually bind it to the life of a human hearthkeeper, who must thereafter dwell on the premises. The role can be transferred with another ritual, so such structures arenât limited to a human lifespan, but should the hearthkeeper die unexpectedly â or simply be away from home for more than a fortnight â the building will immediately collapse. Thus, every large building in the setting has a load-bearing boss.
In such a setting, how does going through this outweigh the downsides? Like, what makes a tall building worth it in this world, besides simple hubris?
Humans like to be tall.
Can you bind two hearthkeepers at once so that thereâs a backup?
Can you freeze the hearthkeeper in carbonite and store them in the basement?
Can you bind a lich as the hearthkeeper?
In reverse order: no, they have to be alive; technically yes, but placing a hearthkeeper in suspended animation causes the binding to expire after a fortnight just as though theyâd been away from home; and yes, but as far as anyone knows it only works if theyâre (not necessarily identical) twins.
Iâm suddenly taken with the idea that the mystical binding works because it confuses the metaphysical senses of the gods, conflating the identities of hearthkeeper and structure. âOh, youâre not a blasphemously-tall building. Itâs just a very tall man, made of stone and timber. Carry on, then.â
Reblogging cause I kinda wanna write a short story with this concept one day.
I keep trying to like red wine like a grown-up but like ⌠itâs rotten grapes, guys. You can drink things that donât taste like rotten grapes. Why
Okay I donât know when this post is from (I came across it stalking multiple blogs). But in case this might help, here is a brief science/wine lesson.
To start off, some facts:
-White wine is made from sweet pulp inside of the grape (minus the seeds).
-Red wine is made from both the skin and the grape (and the seeds and stemsâŚsometimes? Canât remember).
-Tannin is the substance found in red wines, coffee, dark chocolate. Tannins are responsible for the bitter taste in those foods.
-Tannins are found in the skin of the grape, as well as the seeds and the stems. Therefore, most red wines will have tannins, versus most whites will not have tannins.
-Red wines vary in level of tannins, depending on variety of grape, climate, and fermentation process. Pinot noir tends to be very low tannin. Shiraz/Syrah, choice of poison for our beloved brunette surgeon, is very heavy on the tannins.
-Some white wines (most commonly Chardonnay) are aged in oak barrels instead of metal containers. Oak barrels have tannins, which seeps into the wine during the fermentation process. Thatâs why Chardonnays tend to be âdrierâ aka it has tannins.
-White wines like Sauvingnon Blancs are usually fermented in steel barrels (aka no tannins. Aka usually very fruity and light and sweet).
Your ability to taste tannins is genetic.
There is a genetic marker determining whether your taste cells are sensitive to tannins.
Basically two people can drink the exact same wine and have wildly different reactions because: 1. Person A canât taste tannins, so they taste the actual wine flavor. 2. Person B can taste tannins, and that tends to overpower ALL the other flavors in the wine. Basically all they taste is tannins and none of the wine.
I am super tannin sensitive, so if I drink a wine like Cabernet Sauvignon (very tannin heavy, aka âvery dryâ, it tastes like bitter ethanol alcohol to me, whereas my best friend canât taste tannins so the same wine is maybe a little bitter but they can actually taste the grape and different flavors. To her, a wine like Sauv Blanc is too sweet, tastes like sugar water. But to me it tastes good.
So unless itâs the taste of the alcohol or all wines you hate, chances are you might hate the taste of red wine, especially the heavier red wines, because taste the tannin overpowers everything else. And all you taste is bitter bitter ethanol bitter more ethanol.Â
More tannin info: -Tannins bind to fat.
-This is why tannin heavy wines are recommended with fatty foods (Shiraz and steak). Whenever you eat food with high fat content, the fat builds up on your tongue. A sip of red wine will bind with the fat on your tongue and clear it away. Thatâs why the sip of wine between bites of fat heavy foods is considered a palate cleanser.
-By that logic, this is why white wines are recommended with low fat foods, like fish. Salmon is fattier than most fish, which is why Chardonnay (tannin heavy white wine) or Pinot Noir (low tannin red wine) is recommended with salmon.
-People who are sensitive to tannins can drink tannin heavy red wines with fatty food and generally the wine wonât taste gross. The fat on your tongue (from that steak) will bind with the tannin and neutralize the tannin taste. Aka the only time I ever drink Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz is with a steak or heavy, creamy pasta. Aka never bc I donât often eat either.
-The reason dairy helps coffee taste better is because the fat in milk/creams binds with the tannins in coffee and neutralizes the bitter taste. This is why people who canât taste tannins can generally drink coffee black without milk (sugar is a different story). Itâs also why almond milk in coffee is the worst idea (almond milk is already bitter and has no fat).
More wine facts: -90% of the âaromasâ of wine are marketing BS
-You know the labels that say like âcherry with a hint of blackberry?â Thereâs no real way to infuse cherry or blackberry into grape wine without screwing with the fermentation process. Itâs all created by the wine marketing industry to sell you win. Sometimes if you smell cherry before you drink the wine, you might taste it in the wine (because majority of flavor comes from smell). Or if you think there is cherry flavor in the wine, your brain can trick your taste buds into tasting it.
-The only true flavors found in real grape wine are grapes (obviously), oak/earthy flavor (the barrels), vanilla (barrels, oak sticks), tannins. (There are a few others but canât remember. I think maybe cinnamon?).
-Peopleâs perception of wine often affect how good it tastes to them. Social psychology studies show that people will rate the exact same wine differently if theyâre told the wines are different in price. (They rated the more expensive wine as tastier).
tl;dr Whether you can taste tannins is genetic. Exact same wines taste different for different people depending on your genetic makeup. If youâre sensitive to tannins, red wines wonât taste like anything other than bitter alcohol. Genetics/tannins are why people generally have preferences for red or whites.
this is extremely informative and i have learned a thing about myself, which is that i CLEARLY inherited the tannin-tasting genes from my teatotaling mother and not from my dad who subsists entirely on espresso and cabernet sauvignon.

This is an interesting article about the genes that let you taste it if youâre into the sciency shit
