Hammer sees it as part of a broader shift taking place in the entertainment industry.
"That's why we say that we exist outside of the Hollywood infrastructure," Hammer said. "We can help people make their visions come alive."
The changes, he argues, should not necessarily be interpreted as the death of Hollywood.
"Some people say that the film industry is downsizing everything," he said. "And in the studio system, that is true."
But Hammer sees a different story outside the traditional studio system.
THE HOLLYWOOD STUDIO SYSTEM HAS EXISTED FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY, HAMMER NOTED, BUT HE BELIEVES ITS DOMINANCE IS CHANGING.
"I don't think that the film industry is dying. I think that it's changing," he said. "I THINK THE POWER IS MOVING AWAY FROM THE STUDIOS AND INTO THE HANDS OF INDEPENDENT FILM PRODUCERS, DIRECTORS AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE A PART OF MAKING THESE FILMS HAPPEN."
Hammer said the studio's ultimate goal is straightforward: to help people who are passionate about filmmaking actually finish the projects they care about.
"We want to help people make and finish the films that they are passionate about, because we are also passionate about film and about production," he said.
