Canada’s current climate-change plans leave it 79 million tonnes shy of its greenhouse-gas emissions targets but Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says most of that gap will be closed if Canadians switch to electric cars and public transit more quickly.
Canada aims to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and similar gases to 513 million tonnes a year by 2030. In 2016, the most recent year for which measurements are available, Canada emitted 704 million tonnes. Computer modeling suggests by 2030 we will get down to 592 million tonnes if we fully implement all the measures Canada has planned, like the carbon tax, clean fuel standards, energy-efficiency improvements for buildings and closing coal-fired power plants.
But McKenna said Thursday that a number of moves haven’t been worked into the country’s models yet, such as the construction of major new transit systems and policies to cut the use of single-use plastic packaging.
The problem I have with this is:
1.) We wouldn’t have to depend solely on the electrification of vehicles and public transit to meet our emission reduction targets, if the Trudeau government didn’t just decide it needed to approve two pipelines and then buy one of them. Not to mention the billions of fossil fuel subsidies the government continues to give to the fossil fuel industry.
2.) Sure increased use of Public Transit and rapid adoption of electric vehicles is a desirable goal, but what are the Liberals doing about that? I have seen no major investments by this government of the scale necessary to drive people to use public transit over more polluting vehicles and electric vehicles.
so they’re just telling consumers to get an electric vehicle or a bus pass to fix climate change? Like isn’t it their job to solve the great big national issues like gas emissions? What’s the point of a government that just tells us to do their job for them?

Stephen Hillenburg was a marine biologist who created Spongebob as a part of a project to help educate kids on the ocean while working at the orange county marine institute. many of the characters in this educational comic went on to become a part of the series, including the future cartoon’s titular character, then known as Bob the Sponge.
this cartoon revolutionized the industry and in its initial boom was widely adored for its ability to be enjoyed by all ages and all demographics, creating an animated juggernaut for its generation akin to the simpsons or looney tunes, with people of all stripes able to remember its finest moments at the drop of a hat.
hillenburg began his official work on this groundbreaking program 15 years after graduating college. he left his career at the marine institute to study at CalArts. he didnt get his MFA until the early 90s. spongebob squarepants, now considered by many to be nickelodeon’s premier nicktoon, began airing the year he turned 38. his adventure as a professional truly shows the power of pursuing far-flung dreams, and that someone can do something huge long after their supposed “prime.”
this man changed animation, nickelodeon, and the childhoods of millions of people around the world forever in his unfortunately short life. i think it should be known just how much he managed to do in his time here, though, and his work and lofty ambition was something to be admired.
the above clip, featuring tiny tim’s “Living in the Sunlight,” is from the debut episode, “Help Wanted,” partially written by Hillenburg. It perfectly encapsulates the completely unorthodox and wildly entertaining tone that made this show so great.
RIP Stephen Hillenburg

Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of Spongebob Squarepants, has passed away. Thank you for creating this wonderful show. We are sending love to his family.
One of the first times a movie made me cry was the goofy goober sad song in the first Spongebob movie. For a creator of a cartoon that has made 2 generations laugh and strive for optimism and to always remain positive, I hope he rests in piece.
Thank you for the childhood.
Welcome to Japan
Where cars are parked orderly and in reverse
Where fruits can be cubes
Where people keep left
And lamps have different brightness for double beds
People queue up in lines
Applies to stickers too
Where what you get is the same as the poster
you get waved goodbye..?
Relieving both mind and body
Yup.
Smooth train operator
No embarrassing knocking or barging into rooms to check out if they are occupied
When you need an extra hand
For the selfiestas
Brolly holders
Because normal manhole covers are too mainstream
Think diagonal
And anytime u need to soak your feet
Where you raise responsible adults, not brats
And luggage is organised in color codes
When you need help after the condom broke
Instant sanitary gratification
Why they are so welcome at football matches
Where water is that clean in the drains
Nuff said

The five-term MP was twice named Best Orator and once named Most Knowledgeable before taking the top prize in 2018
Once in a while, in the home stretch of a speech in the House of Commons, Nathan Cullen will start to feel the themes from the beginning of his remarks effortlessly circle back to him. It feels less like he’s making that happen than simply witnessing it. “You’re sort of becoming an observer, watching the speech, kind of curious as much as anyone: where is this gonna end up, this story?” he says. “There’s a rhythm that hits, and then it’s so easy, and I’m interested and I’m just telling stories.”
The New Democrat MP has twice been voted best orator and once most knowledgeable by his colleagues from across party lines; this year, they promoted him to Parliamentarian of the Year.

People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought I’d get right to the heart of the matter
This is 1000% more motivating than every preachy “real writers write every day” post on all of Tumblr.

The Two Cake Theory
This is the excuse Trudeau is making?
That it would cost too much money to stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia?
Please note that in the past year Justin Trudeau’s government has bought an oil pipeline from a giant oil corporation for $4.5 Billion Dollars:
Trudeau government to buy Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain for $4.5-billion
Just this week it came to light that Justin Trudeau forgave a $2.6 Billion dollar auto sector loan to Chrysler:
Liberal government writes off $1.1B US loan to Chrysler, plus interest, docs show
$1 Billion dollars is nothing to get Saudi Arabia’s Blood off our hands. I’d be happy if the Federal Government paid 10X that as the price to pay for having a Human Rights based foreign policy.
Don’t forget the part where that oil pipeline, purchased for $4.5 billion, was actually worth less than $1 billion. The price was so egregiously inflated because the purchase also included the (by the time of closing) nonexistent permits for construction of its twin.
The more important issue, I think, is that Trudeau is saying that Yemeni and dissident Saudi lives are worth less than all of that.
I’m ashamed that Trudeau and Freeland have put our country up for sale, and that our sacred “values” that they talk so much about are sold so cheaply.
