On Ryan Goslingâs Carb-Hatred
I overheard something the other day that made me stop and think. I overheard a woman who I respect â a high-level corporate in a successful business, with a lovely family, with a nice house and holidays every other month â brazenly talking about how unhappy she was.
If you share the thought process of the sane, logical half of my brain, youâll recognise how ludicrous this seems â what on earth could this woman have to be unhappy about? Freed from all of the traditional stress-factors that could define her (lack of money, family struggles, an insecure position at work), what more could she possibly want? Inevitably, it was that central, very un-traditional stress factor that was defining her â her weight, and her body-image.
Lighten up on yourself. No one is perfect. Accept your humanness.

On Being Grateful For What Youâve Got
You only get one body. Thatâs something worth remembering, and definitely something that Iâve been thinking about a lot lately. And you know what? Itâs been really helpful. You might be thinking to yourself: âso what if I have a body? Everyone has a body. I just wish mine wasnât the way it is. I just wish there was a way to change my thighs/my arms/my nose etc etc.â If thatâs you, then Iâve got a gentle reminder for you, honey.
On #LoveAfterLocks
Iâm sad. Iâm really sad. Itâs kind of bizarre how much of an impact the removal of the infamous âlove locksâ from Parisâs Pont des Arts could have on me, particularly when I have never even placed one there myself, but hear me out.
Instead of being made to feel inadequate, and that my efforts to live a healthy lifestyle are not âenoughâ, shouldn't everyoneâs attempts to live well be celebrated? Why are my choices not good enough, because I will never be âbeach body readyâ in your eyes?

On *THAT*Â âBeach-Bodyâ Ad
At the risk of giving this undeserving, disrespectful brand any more unwarranted press: ah, Protein World. Youâve really gone and done it now, havenât you? As soon as I saw these ads, even before anyone started making noise on a large-scale, I was annoyed. I remember being sat on the tube, seeing the bright yellow background with a perfectly-proportioned bikini model emblazoned next to big, black letters: âARE YOU BEACH BODY READY?â Oh, Protein World, you just pressed my rage button.
This is the only body I will ever have for the rest of my life. It shows my struggles, and it shows my progress. Why shouldnât I be proud of it? Why shouldnât it be celebrated?

On Loey Laneâs Plus Size Swimwear Lookbook
Picture the image of me standing up and applauding my laptop screen, having watched a video on YouTube, feeling like I simply have to share it immediately. That just happened. I often watch plus-size or curvier YouTuberâs fashion lookbooks, like SprinkleOfGlitter for example, because I find them inspiring: I admire these womensâ confidence, happiness and mastery in dressing their bodies in a way that makes them feel (and look) beautiful. Tonight, I watched this swimwear lookbook by YouTuber Loey Lane. I admit, Iâm pretty late to the party: Lane posted this inspiring video in August 2014, and itâs only just crossed my path. But if you, like me, havenât been lucky enough to see it, WATCH THIS VIDEO. It will be the most inspiring, body-positive act of self-acceptance you do tonight.

On Choosing To Be Happy
This is a concept that I find myself thinking about pretty often. Some days, merely deciding to feel happy and positive is more than enough to put a smile on my face and think of all the reasons I have to feel great. But other times, itâs not always that easy. Sometimes, the idea that I could âchooseâ to feel happy feels unreachable, and it can seem like your personal emotions are not under your own control. Obviously, choosing happiness is the ideal, but weâre not all superhuman, and we could all sometimes do with a few reminders and tips. So Iâd like to quickly share a couple of ideas I have for picking myself up when Iâm feeling down!
