What? No, no. Orwell, Vermont.
Me with @missamyshay fics
“I mean what did you think, really? That a show about nerds and outcasts was gonna have a well-written queer romance? That, in the end, queer love could help save the world?”
Yeah I guess I did. I really did.

every time a country is invaded by the US under the excuse of “rescuing” its people, what’s left behind is either a cemetery or an open air asylum.
there isn’t a single case in history where the US actually saved a country from anything, what they did leave behind, consistently, were stolen resources, exploited land, and futures permanently scarred by military dictatorships.
what the US does in the middle east is widely known, what many people still don’t fully grasp is what they’ve done and continue to do in latin america.
they funded, trained, and supported military dictatorships across most of the region, and they infiltrated our cultures in a calculated, orchestrated way that still shapes us today.
to my LATAM stay strong cuz we’re going to need it in the years ahead.

it was never a show for outcasts. it was a show for straight white people who think they're socially oppressed just because they play video games.
If the writers weren't glaringly racist, I’m just thinking about how it would’ve made so much more sense for Erica to have Holly’s plot.
We've known her since season 2 and would have been far more invested in her than in Holly, who we knew nothing about going into season 5. They wouldn't have had to retcon her age *cough*, as she would have been around 12 years old in '87, same as Will when he was taken. She would have had a future-sister-in-law dynamic with Max in Camazotz. She could have relayed so much information to Max about what's been going on while she was gone. We could have seen her nerd out about A Wrinkle in Time and science (which is canonically her favourite subject). We could have seen actual depth added to her character and given an active, emotional storyline to Lucas, who would have been hellbent on finding her. It would have been so satisfying to see that dynamic since we're used to them bickering all the time; a real true-to-life example of the complexities of sibling love. It could have been so, so good.
Since I'm now obsessed with pointing out flaws in stranger things writing and development can I just say that Dustin and Erica would've made an absolute ICONIC pair?
Like, for real you guys, they missed so much potential for not betting on those two and the fact that Erica of all people was the one helping Dustin out in his great anti-stablishment performance just shows all the chaotic good they could've brought to this world. They match each other's smartasses like no other character. Just like, the BRAINS of these duo, man, imagine what they would be capable of together!!!!
Suck my fat one with this, duffers. Guess you really did not hit a single arrow, huh.
I am pissed about the queerbaiting above all, yes, but not just that, because they utterly stripped the show of everything that was stranger things.
Found-family trope and friendship conquers all? Don't sweat it, your grown-up group of friends will hardly have a monthly pre-scheduled reunion that happens off camera, mind you. Ah!, and that's generous, alright, because some parties don't even get an alleged epilogue together. They just naturally part ways because guess that's life suck it up.
Oh and don't even think about hope, mind you. Because the traumatized kids are much better kept isolated (alone in the woods or in a crowded bar, you pick your poison).
80's authentic aesthetic that literally set a trend for 2010's media worldwide? Sorry, no time for retro vibes, too busy filling the season with awful dialogues and creating new plot holes we won't get to finish because we honestly don't even care.
Complex characters? Ugh, no. Let's just fill the rest of the blanks with new characters that have like 628262 more screentime than the protagonists of this 10-year long story (even better if said protagonist is a strong female lead). And since we're at it let's just make one of those main characters a canonically piece of cardboard shit when the show was, as mentioned, supposedly about friendship and love and community.
Music as a driving force of the plot? Again, the awful dialogues are a much more important soundtrack, sorry. Might even release them as a spotify playlist to further torture people. Just leave some David Bowie in the credits of a gut wrenchingly disappointing finale and that'll do the trick.
A mother's fierce love for her outcasted, traumatized son? Shit, this woman already took too much screentime, let's just leave her as a caricature shell of who once was driving the whole narrative and give her a scene of gratuitous violence in the end that doesn't even make sense, thanks.
Nothing.
They gave us absolutely nothing with this season, while robbing us of everything this show meant.
This just makes me more grateful for fanfiction writers. You are the true artists in this cruel century we live in.

also, does anybody else feel like vecnas death scene was just gratuitous violence?
they picked those deeply emotional memories as background for a beheading? in a sci-fi show supposedly about interdimensional travelling, found families and self-acceptance?
man did they write this episode poorly.
I'm actively deciding to ignore all this shitshow of a finale in favor of hyper focusing on how fast this mfs climbed those cliffs but took like half the episode to reach the mindflyer
