oceanid hc and me going insane.
oceanids live in the deepest parts of the ocean so their eyes aren't the best, the can see elemental energy currents and the "arua" a creature has. and each oceanid has different energy signature so they can tell each other apart, but everything else is extremely blurry. with egeria blessing they are able to toggle the ability to see, but they see as well as the average human. most of the time they are blind they only need to see when desigas as a human or any other land animals.
to compensate for the poor eyesight their others sences are keener. they have special sensory organs all around the oceanids body. they are similar to electroreceptors that sharks have, and they are able to sense the smallest amount of change it the water, like a single drop of water in the ocean and they will be able to find where that drop comes from.
their sense of hearing keen enough for them to hear very high pitch and very low ones as well,so they can hear the low rumbles of a whale call, and they are able hear the high frequency of dolphins clicks. they use their exilant hearing for communicating with other oceanids either by low frequency call for long distance or high frequency call for close distance, and with their enhance hearing they will be able to hunt for their pray with the ability to hear and feel their prays heart beats.
their sense of smell is akin to shark. they have specialized organs on their head, small pores on specific areas that allow them to smell. they uses their "noses" to find dead animals or plants(this post will explain my hc about oceanid heating habits)
their senses of taste is the same as any other fish
as i said when telling you about their eyesight they typically live in the deepest part of the oceans, but they can basically live in any part of the world as long it's near a water source. if they are not the will feel fatigued and sluggish, or at worse if they are in a place extremely hot like the desert and they are not cautious they will die by evaporations. the most likely places an oceanids lay residents either, ponds, lakes, rivers, oasis, ect. it's unlikely for them to live in bogs(wetlands) or swarps but they can if they want.
when they chose where they stay, they will enchant the surrounding lands to meet their requirements ie a constant supply of pure water as well as constantly purifying water , muggy atmosphere, amplifying the growth of plants.this of course is done if the oceanid is in nature, they will live like humans if they decide to live among humans. they can make their homes hidden to humans with a sigural if they either don't like humans all to much or don't want to be disturbed or they leave it out in the open for humans to challenge them it depending on the oceanid.
the life cycle of an oceanid starts of with an egg as big as a golf ball the incubations time last around 3-5 weeks around that time the parent oceanid will cradle it until it hatches. the egg them self is soft with a thin layer of hydro protecting itself but it gives it a slight slimy texture.
once the egg hatches the baby oceanid able to swim and move as well as a small fish. they as tall as a seahorse and the "wingspan"(or finspan if you will ill see myself out alright) of a small song bird, and their "horns"(i have no idea what to call the thing on top of their heads) are small and fins are rounded. there's a small thin coating on the baby oceanid that there to keep them safe it is slimy to the touch. their diet is mostly consist on small shrimp, krill, small plants and the food will get bigger when they get bigger, but for now they will try to figure out how their limbs work. they will still be baby for 10 weeks during those weeks their fins will be longer and bit pointier and their horns getting longer, and they are better at moving around and using their abilities. during this stage their fins are extremely sensitive any slight discomfort will more painful for them.
once the those weeks has past they are now teens they have better control both their abilities and their bodys, though they're still a bit underdeveloped than a adult such as they still a small coating on them but most of it is gone. as well they are still learning how to hunt and how to get the most out of a carcass. the stage last around 4 weeks.
a fully grown oceanid will live forever and can either stay in the pod they were born in or leave and make a new one. during adulthood an oceanid can create a oceanid egg. their one of many species that can reproduce without a mate, and all they need is pure water and the approval of the hydro archon which they can either go to her or pray to the hydro archon to grant them her blessing, or if they already in a pod the eldest oceanid. the babies are not genetic copies the parent they have their own features.
oceanid has orca like mentally to social groups, and some oceanid don't i all depends on the persantly of the oceanid. the pod differ from orcas are oceanid dynamics often change throughout the day, for example one moment an oceanid is helping the young than suddenly it changes and the very same oceanid is now hunting. they take turns one one jobs and whos on break.
the nurses are the oceanids in charge of the well being of the pod. this job is for 10-19 oceanids to occupy, and the reason for that is because they are also the in charge of the eggs and the young of the pod it's up to them to incubate the eggs and to teach the babies.
hunting party is a job for 4-6 oceanid go forage for food to bring back for the rest of the pod be it either a carcass, a bundle of seaweed, school of fish, or a ton of crostations.
scoting, this job entails that 5-15 oceanid are montering and noting the surrounding area suchs as shiprect and what it contains, and the happening of the surface and if they either find something in the wreckage they think is important or any news on land they will report it the hydor archon or the elder.
elder oceanid are those who either start the pod or the ones are top of the pack and out ranked by the hydro archon. so they are the main advisers to the achon or if they are away the elder oceanids are the one in control of the whole pod for the time being.
they use their mastery over hydro for a lot of thing be it for the offense or defence or they can ever use it for their entertainment. if a thing is made out of water they can probably can makes it, and some have figure out they can make fog.
they can shapeshift to anything if they saw it once.oceanid have a human form to transform into, but there some small features of the original form that poke through. it take a high skilled oceanid to completely blend in. other than humans they can transform into anything they soul desire.
they can offer a plethora of blessing for mortals be it anything that you make will be good or immortality or shapeshifting it all depends on what you did and what the oceanid feels like. but just like how they can give blessing they can also give out curses if your anger them in some way.
they can summon creatures made out of waters to do whatever the oceanid wants. the creatures they can summon is limitless.an oceanid is capable to give their summons a personality, and a lot of the time they are a reflection of the oceanid, and the other hand summons could be animalistic and mindless. it all depends on the oceanid.
oceans have either scales or blubber like skin it is there to protect them from outside threats. the only parts of them is not cover by this protective layer of scales/blubber is their head which instead of blubber/scales highly constetrat thin hydro shield around their whole head.
each oceanid has some kind of chimaira when come to features of other aquatic life. just like humans oceanid don't look the same. some looks like betta fish and other looks like a orca, what an oceanid looks like is always random. and the ones with scales some of them are shark like and just fish like.
the temperature they keep themselves is 27.3F. so if one get to touch an oceanid they will extremely cold and very wet.
just like axolotls can regenerate oceanids have the ability to regenerate most if not all of their bodies this usually take up to a couple of months for a missing limb, thou a exerance oceanid can instantly regrow a limb but they will be pins and needle feeling for a couple of weeks. they can also function without their head attached to their bodies, but they will die if the head is destroyed.
an oceanid can die by either evaporation, someone destroyed their head.
