a teenager in a world full of demons, shown to be fearful of just about everything around him. he was taken in by jigoro, a former thunder hashira, after taking on a mountain of debt by women who he thought loved him. been put through rigorous training to the point where he ran up a tree trying to get away from the old man--which is when he got struck by lightning and survives, though it's where he got his bright yellow and orange hair.
upon passing final selection, it's not long before he meets tanjiro, inosuke and nezuko and his world starts changing for the better. he might still be a coward from time to time, but with the help of the people around him, he starts to come out of that frightened shell he was once in and come into his own.
sure he can't use more than the first form of his thunder breathing at first, but upon learning that his master had taken his own life because of another pupil who chose to become a demon over being co-successors of the title thunder hashira, he unlocks a brand new technique that only he can master--using said attack to take down the same pupil in order to give jigoro some rest on the other side.

He goes to try and snatch the container and it's purple stuff into his own hands. This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. But. He's gonna chug it.
"i'm not giving it to you!" not until he figures out what it is. he would turn his body so that it was out of inosuke's reach. "for all you know it's poisonous!" though, with him holding it, it could hurt him as well.
"uh, guys? i found this weird bottle that has an odd color liquid in it.." holds up the beaker with what looks like a purple substance inside of it. "i don't know what to do with it."
"what am i doing?" he questioned when tanjiro asked him what he was up to, and he held up the brush that he had been writing with. "i want our story to be remembered years down the road, so i've been writing down our adventures in this notebook since we started fighting together."
oh thank goodness! zenitsu didn't even have to turn to see that it was toshiro, it was the sounds that came from him that alerted the young man of his arrival.
"you're back!" he said, almost racing towards him, but stopped just shy of colliding with the shinigami in a tight hug. he knew that the captain needed his space, and it was something zenitsu was trying his best to give him.
so he would just give a relieved yet grateful smile.
