On July 10, 1520, King Henry VIII of England met the powerful Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at Gravelines, shortly after the famous Field of the Cloth of Gold meeting with Francis I of France. The encounter reflected Henry’s ambitions to strengthen England’s position in European politics and build closer ties with Charles, who was one of the most influential rulers of the age.

On June 28, 1491, Henry VIII was born at Greenwich Palace, becoming one of England’s most famous and controversial monarchs. The second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, he was not originally expected to inherit the throne, but the death of his older brother Arthur placed him on the path to kingship.

Crowned King of England in 1509, Henry VIII ruled for nearly 38 years, leaving a lasting mark on English history. His reign saw powerful royal expansion, conflicts with France, the rise of Parliament, and the English Reformation. His decision to break with the Catholic Church and establish the Church of England changed the religious and political landscape of Europe.
