Omg what if, hear me out, Rio wasn’t by their side during Nicky’s life like the show insinuated but instead every time Agatha killed a coven she appeared outside and kept Nicky company while Agatha drained them because Rio appears right before death is certain. And that’s why Nicky so willingly went with her when she came for him because she was an old friend at that point. Always there, holding him, and keeping him company as he listened to the dying cries of dozens of witches over his life time. Her presence was probably so soothing for a child surrounded by death because that’s all he had ever known. Death was an old friend to him, there since he was old enough to help his mama, and he wasn’t scared when she finally came for him because he had only ever known death’s kindness and compassion

btw i feel like this shouldn't have to be said but the reason that agatha hates rio is because agatha didn't get to say goodbye to nicky. rio couldn't offer her any more time. and, in rio's mind, nicky going peacefully in his sleep (and even telling him to turn around and kiss agatha goodbye!!) is the one grace rio feels she can give agatha. nicky doesn't suffer. he doesn't fight. he just...goes. he goes on a walk with his mother and kisses his mama goodbye. but agatha doesn't get to say goodbye!!! she doesn't get those final moments with him!! she wakes up and he's already gone.
