Fils Fav Prints Pt.2 'Dwight Schrute Portrait' by Rich Pellegrino Artist signed mini-print hand numbered 23/35 Todays 'Fils Fav Print' from my personal collection is this mini print by Rich Pellegrino. I picked this print up at gallery 1988 in Los Angeles which is an awesome gallery specialising in pop culture art for those unaware. I had actually been a fan of Richs work for some time before i picked up this incredible little print and was glad to finally add one to my collection. I remember looking at Richs work multiple times when researching artists for inspirtion before i opened up www.thrl.co Rich is known for painting incredible portraits and its generally his pop culture referenced pieces that interested me the most, Tv/movie characters and such. The subject of this print was an easy sell for me as i am a huge Office fan. As an avid fan of the show I think choosing to paint the portrait of Dwight in his Utica disguise almost appealed to me more as my instant recognition of the unique way of seeing the characer gave me an almost graticifcation of my level of dedication to the show. Some of my thoughts on a techincal basis: His colour pallete is very unique yet consistent through most of his work. It feels to me as if he has found a way to make soft pastel and neon colours sit together on the piece which i am aware is somewhat of a double standard but a thought i often have looking at his work. I also absolutely love the use of texture he creates in his backgrounds, specifically where they meet the subject. He manages to create such an appealing yet simple background to his portraits, its just textured enough to be pleasing yet not too busy. I have dabbled myself in doing characatures and portraits and creating a suitable non distracting yet successful background which i found difficult, this made me really appreciate his choices. Within his style he manages to create such detail whilst often using quite blocky and geometric esq strokes which gives a really awesome contrast. Its this techique which gives such a unique feeling to the piece, its not a realistic portrait yet not a characature. This print sits in my living room in a black frame and will always be one of my favourites. Dont forget to Research and follow the artist and my next favourite print blog post will be online soon!
