Discover phase:

Step 1 - Explore.

The first step was to explore an create a mind map to guide me through the exploration of the fields relevant to this project.

1. Matariki

2. Augmented reality

3. iOS ecosystem

Starting with the Matataki narrative and all its encompassing elements, then augmented reality . Then an exploration of iOS development systems.

I was able to identify aspects of the Matariki narrative that I felt appropriate for the prototype. Because Matariki is based in the cosmos the narrative naturally offers a spatial experience that could be explored through an immersive application.

Within the exploration of augmented reality I was able to identify key themes to further explore. Leading me to discover literature that identified important design approaches to consider when developing an immersive cultural storytelling experience.

Because this project is an application developed in the Apple Vision Pro. Naturally I went on a discovery to learn the iOS development ecosystem. In this exploration I discovered many tools and skills that were required to successfully deploy an application on the Apple Vision Pro.

this project is about educating users about the sustainability values embeded within the matariki cluster

how -

the experience is gamafied using emerging Augmented Reality technology. Our gamefications include evaluations of the users current sustainability efforts through in game waste managements interactions, users are given visual feedback about their efforts, which reflects their impact on the environment 100 years in a speculative future.

why -  

we chose AR technology as it utilises collaboration and hands on interactive mechanics to provide digital native generation a more fun, immersive and memorable learning environment

question 2 multiple answers (2 - 4) - how do u apply the puhutukawa into you day to day life - bad/not bad/ok/excellent. users answers will reflect how their current dicitions effect the future of their wellbeing of their spiritual selves and the earth, this will be visual feedback - visual aid idea - earth rotting or earth thriving - avatars chest health bad or healthy - with detail about future climate and personal health issues, and also shows users real data, litereture reletive to their outcomes. user has the option to go back to question 2 to make a better dicition. when the dicitions are corrected - user is given feeback about a better future and also reffered to climate sustainability intiatives online or in physical.

scene 14 -

user is rewarded with an affirmation and cultural and sustainability points we will call “Kaitiaki Points”. app will ask user to continue to the next star.

scene 15 -

completed star is now fully rendered (visual aids like pulsating light emiting from the completed star) with a line conecting the completed star to the co relating body part of the users avatar. sjowing the user that they are now connected - user is now guided to the next star.

and so on, 

at the very end - the App will reccomend to the user real matariki events - social groups - affiliates marketting - promo codes - special offers for registering through the app - events promote our apps services.

Reflection:

This method provided a good structure to follow for building a stakeholder map. this map gave me a clear visual of the types of stakeholder involved, how to best approach the affiliated party according to their level of interest and influences.

with this data i can utilize it to fill out the Stakeholder Analysis Matrix tool

This tool will also help identify possible contingencies and their likelihood to occur. these contingencies can then be managed and assessed within the “Risk Management Template” or “SWOT analysis”.

By evaluating our creative process using this tool, we are able to assess the validity of our sketches, fairer distribution of clearer responsibility, possible losses and design mitigated solution.

Summative Reflection

week 7 - 11 provided tools that i think would benefit the beginning stages of any project. these workflows and methodologies provide clear structures to guide and navigate many complex projects into reality. i beleive the “Actual workflow” had not followed the “waterfall” methodology as the “Anticipated Workflow” originally planed too.

if the tools taught in week 7 - 10 were applied earlier in the project we may have been able to avoid a loss due to the more in depth understanding of the projects scopes and requirements.

the ARKi Kit iOS SDK approach worked, however we did not have the financial resources to subscribe for the premium features for the app.

we investigated the AR elements - we found this was a great tool. however we lacked experience and expert advice to hypothesize the diffilculty of the approach. within 1.5 weeks we soon learned its difficulty and closed the approach prematurely and assesed plan c.

AR foundations was a good tool to use, its free, accessible and im familiar enough with the SDK to make a start but its also novel enough to be a good challenge for me. this element is also a high priority learning goal for me for professional development.

although the anticipated workflow didn't go as planned, it still gave valuable lessons and insights into the importance of understanding the multiple risks, contingencies, evaluation management implementations and mitigation plans.

thouroughly assessing and evaluating these risks will save time, money, resources and ensure the sucess of any project on time.

these tools will be key resourses in my future ventures, a play an important roll in my goals ahead.

Workflow -

this paper has contributed immensely in helping me manage our studio projects time, team members, project task, potential contingencies, cost, requirements, contractor, stakeholder, user and marketing strategies. but most of all, helped me visualise the processes more clearly, therefore communicate the process in a more simple and easy to understand process to the many parties that may involved in the project.

i think this paper may be worth considering being introduce earlier in the course, as it provides the clear frame works being used in the creative industries that help us creatives understand what is required to achieve our goals. this confusion earlier in the study can cause us to feel lost and possibly resort in un enrolment and choosing a discipline that seems more clear in terms of direction. 

this process gives me a sense of a system as a living organism, where many parts of the process are interconnected and each micro / macro / parent task and team members and the entire projects collective efforts each play a role in bringing the project to life.

To filter our decisions using the integrative practice methods, tikanga frame works and ricardo’s introduction to creative technologies methodologies to model our workflow.

Project management -

Reflecting on my role as project manager and suiter, it has been a awesome process getting to know each individual involved in the project, by collectively coming up with an approach that captured each team members interest and learning goals in the beginning has lead to each to member putting in an an exceeding amount of effort in the project. even though we have been limited to online collaborations by covid restriction, the project was interesting enough to keep the team engaged as if they were paid to do it.

in terms of my efforts in the project management process, i think the workflow paper essential knowledge for this skill.

thanks to this paper, we managed to visualise the project more clearly therefore creating positive synergy and symbiosis as a whole.

Why this Project for studio?

My main learning goal this year is to focus less on solving someone else’s problem but concentrate more on a actualised project that captures each team member's skills and learning goals we want to develop for when we leave university.

Further Developments - where to from here?

Week 1 - Discover - Tuckmen Model

Fully focused on forming teams, Tuckmen model was a excellent tool for describing this process by storming ideas and interest, forming roles and scope, normalising responsibilities, performing and executing task, adjourning via retrospection. And further inspecting and filtering our decisions during this process using integrative practices, six thinking hats, Tikanga frame works and conducting research on similar projects, potential stake holders and customers.

After retrospecting our approaches, week 4 was about deciding which approach to take an further investigating the selected approach to breakdown the task required to achieve the goal.
