No, this is a real question I want you to think about and answer. Deltarune has provided unique discussion and I want to have it. Is this scene sad?

Once again, real question, serious question. We've been given little pieces of information, parsed out over the course of five chapters. And now, with hindsight, we can look back on this in a new light. So is this scene sad?

You have your answers to all of these. And I want you to collect them all, roll them around in your mind, really ponder them for a bit.

Why is Susie living in the closet sad, but her devouring multiple Darkners, not?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Susie hiding out in the closet is sad because it means she has no where else to go. What do I mean by this? Look at the way she reacts when anyone is nice to her. Tried to offer her food, safety, friendship. She eats it up like her life depends on it. Under a tough exterior is a sad, scared kid who's also sweet, hopeful and more than anything wants to be loved. That hope, however, is fragile.

Her going into the closet is sad because there is a chance she's actually losing that hope. To me, it is her avoiding the problem that has been plaguing us ever since the second chapter. No, not even that, ever since the first one, from the very beginning, when she burst into the classroom. What the fuck is actually happening in her actual home to make her want to hide out in the closet in the first place? What she's telling us is from the things she isn't saying, or avoids finishing the sentences to. Or in some cases, how she reacts.

She has very likely run away from home and I think I might have an idea as to why that is the case.

This Right here. Am I saying it's the sole reason? No, there's a chance it's way more nuanced than that. But seeing a drunk person, even if they're happy shouldn't illicit such a reaction, like running away. She JUST started trusting an adult figure, at least one in the light world, and she was about to ask if she could stay over again after EVERYTHING that happened with the Final Prophecy. Until she saw how Toriel was behaving under the influence. It was a slap to the face of what she knew about her. And I do believe Toriel is still a trustworthy adult. Flawed, maybe has blind spots when it comes to Kris and clearly missing Asriel who's been at college for what can be assumed to be a few years give or take and may have been looking to fill the void that he left when he went away, subconscious or otherwise. But a trustworthy adult. But if your reaction to a drunk person, even a happy one that wouldn't hurt a child while they're like this, is to flee? Then I think we need to have the long and very difficult talk. One that may involve the idea that her parents or guardians are drunks and have been neglecting her needs for fuck knows how long and are impoverished, considering her dialogue about how she eats from behind the QCs trash when there's leftovers and her weird route dialogue about how Noelle pulled out a whole roll of hundreds of dollars--money that she herself had never seen before in her entire life. That constantly make her wish so badly that said guardian would look at her with love and care

instead of with anger and hate?

With outright violence?

With the constant self harm jokes about getting herself stabbed because she has to be able to feel... something?

And, we know that these Dark Fountains are shaped based on who created them, and it's very likely that Kris made a good majority of these that we know of, save for Susie's in the church as a Second Sanctuary. That doesn't mean that other people's wills do not influence it either.

And who else do we know has broken the game and enforced her will onto these other dark worlds? That's right. Susie!

But a lightner's will isn't the only thing influencing them--so are the fears of it's participants in these dark world adventures.

So why is Susie hiding out in the closet sad? Because her actual reaction to scary things that could hurt her is to run away and hide. Not violence, not anger. Fear

The crowd roared in confused enthusiasm as Tenna gave a gracious flurry of low-FPS bows, pausing only for the occasional stink-nose at his audience plants who weren’t throwing enough 3D roses.

Eventually, the room fell silent. It was Senshi’s turn to speak.

He puffed out his chest, took a long, sweeping look over the audience… and shook his head.

“I can see not all of you are eating properly.”

The crowd murmured with embarrassment.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time to take the turkey out of your icebox. I have seen the ingenious technology with which your people store food... and I have also seen the waste which results from such convenience.

“The food you take had a life. Beasts grew fat on the grass of the field, plants grew from the sun’s rays, and mushrooms grew from minerals in the cracks of caves. And yet, it sits in your iceboxes, collecting moisture until it perishes.

“Eat what is given to you. Because its life will make you stronger, too.”

Without another word, Senshi left his podium and stepped away from the stage. The crowd murmured in confusion. “Is he really like that?” somebody said. “I only remember reblogging the photosets of him tripping and showing ass.”

Back in the Green Room, Tenna wrung his antennas nervously.

“Y-y-you think they liked me!? They HAD to!! I mean, I don’t know what Asgore was thinking, getting that weird haircut and running that food waste campaign, but… YOU thought I did good, didn’t you, Kris?”

Laios nodded aggressively, a streak of blue face paint peeling from his forehead.

“You did AMAZING, Tenna! By the way, now that we’ve seen all your insider campaign secrets, do you have any more videos of Susie? Especially her tail... If I could get a look at that, I could finally tell if she’s a dinosaur or --”

THWACK. Fake antlers butted Laios’s head.

“LAIOS?? Weren’t we dressed up to help SENSHI???” Marcille hissed, gesturing awkwardly with her hooves.

Suddenly, Tenna turned to the two adventurers.

“Hey, WAIT a second. SOMETHING’s not right here...”

Laios and Marcille held their breath.

“Where the heck are my POINTS!?”

Just then, the door opened. Chilchuck took one step into the room, whistling and holding a large bag.

Everyone turned to him.

Chilchuck paused, took a step backwards, and closed the door.

“CHILCHUCK!!!” yelled Tenna.

“How come Chilchuck got to stay Chilchuck!?” yelled Marcille at the same time.
