Supergirl News â Katie McGrath Fan Network! We are really excited that Katie has been cast in The CWâs Supergirl as Lena Luthor. I have really enjoyed the first series of Supergirl , so with Katie joining the cast will make the program amazing!! I found out that Lena is described as a beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic woman, which Katie describes Katie [âŚ] via Supergirl News â Katie McGrath Fan Network!
I recently went and saw the new Ghostbusters movie at the cinema and was quite surprised with just how good it actually was. I am and always will be a Ghostbusters fan I loved the original and will never get old of listening to that theme song, but I am pleased with just how good this remake turned out.
The cast were fantastic and the characters were really well written, I admit that when I first heard about the remake and it being an all-female team I was unsure of just how it would go, but it just worked. They created a great team bond with each other and they brought a different sort of humour to the franchise that was very entertaining and made the film that much more enjoyable to watch. I am a lover of strong lead female characters and this movie was full of them, plus the addition of the dumb male secretary was rather interesting and entertaining.
Being a fan of the original movies I absolutely loved how most of the original cast made a cameo in the film, what a great addition for Ghostbuster fans like myself, plus it just wouldnât be a Ghostbusters film without the appearance of Slimer and it was fun to see Mr. Staypuft there too. The special effects in the film were incredible, when you think about the fact that the original film came out over 30 years ago it is no surprise to see how much they have advanced and how they can create much more realistic scenes for us.
There were so many good scenes in this movie that I thoroughly enjoyed but I donât want to spoil the film for anyone who has not seen it yet so I will just comment on some of my favourite moments. I absolutely love the scene where Yatesâ is possessed, Melissa McCarthyâs acting here was incredible and her facial expressions had me in hysterics. I was disappointed when all the military personal were lined up looking ready to dance and there was not actual a dance scene⌠but then I was happy to see the dance scene in the background as the credits rolled, it was just too good of a scene to not have there. Although I prefer the original, the new version of the theme song was catchy and fit in with the movie well and it still had most aspects of the original, to keep the fans happy.
I would definitely recommend this film, what a great remake of a memorable classic.

Ghostbusters 2016 I recently went and saw the new Ghostbusters movie at the cinema and was quite surprised with just how good it actually was.
This event is an incredibly special moment in my life that I will never forget, it was an absolute pleasure to meet Don S. Davis, Carmen Argenziano and heâs partner Eileen Grubba. Again my friends and I went as VIP were we had dinner with the guests the night before the convention, Don was a sweetheart he spoke so lovingly about other cast members and especially of his wife Ruby. Carmen and Eileen were amazing also, we had some great chats and really enjoyed the evening. The next day at the convention I was dressed in a Australian Air Force Blues outfit, when Carmen and Eileen walked in and saw me they both commented on how great the costume looked, since both Don and Carmen played Air Force Generals I thought it was fitting.
The convention was amazing and lots of new friends were made, we started off getting photos then Carmen got up and did his panel, we gave him Vegemite and it was hilarious he squirted it in his mouth then drank most of a bottle of water before tipping the rest over his head, it was very entertaining. At one stage he got down on one knee to get Eileen on stage with him then it finished with them getting some special Aussie presents. Next there was an auction and after that a screening of the last episode of Stargate SG-1 âUnendingâ before Donâs panel⌠I had my own special moment with Don and itâs something Iâll always remember, whilst everyone else was sitting watching the episode I was standing at the back of the room when Don came in, he walked over to me, draped his arm over my shoulders and we chatted, I have to admit that I donât remember exactly what was said I was just enjoying the moment, Don was such a loving person it was such an honour to have been able to meet him. Donâs panel was great although when we gave him Vegemite he wasnât going to taste it on stage he said heâd had it before. As a present Don was given an Australian Army Slouch Hat from Locky, whoâs in the Army and who spent ANZAC morning with Don and the event organiser Scotty at a dawn service a few days before the con.
Getting autographs was another fun venture, queuing up and making new friends and having a laugh. I remember for some reason when it came to getting my autograph from Don I was singing the âOld Man Emuâ song, guess I was just showing my Aussiness! This is definitely an event I will never forget and am so pleased I was able to enjoy these moments as I did.
Iâm extremely honoured that I was given this amazing opportunity to meet Don, and I will always remember the moments I had at this event. We were very lucky to have had him visit and to have the chance to meet such a loving person. He is missedâŚ

Tokâra â Tauri Summit This event is an incredibly special moment in my life that I will never forget, it was an absolute pleasure to meet Don S.
Over the weekend I attended Oz Comic Con Melbourne another yearly event that hits our city, this year the show was held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre again. This particular show has been running for the least amount of time out of the Expoâs run in Melbourne and I have attended the events each year and can say that over the years they have improved in most aspects some are still a little disorganised but for the majority it seems to run quite smoothly. I attended both days of the show, my main reason for going to catch up with friends and to just enjoy myself. The show had a good guest line up with John Barrowman, Robert Patrick and Eliza Taylor as some of the bigger names, although being the Stargate fan that I am I was more interesting in seeing Rachel Luttrell and Paul McGillion again, it being ten years since I last saw Rachel.
On the Saturday a friend asked me to be her wingman, she says wingman I call myself âbag bitchâ⌠anyway itâs always more fun to do these things with friends and this friend and I we have a great dynamic when it comes to guest interactions plus we have a great time too. I also decided to wear my Stargate: Atlantis costume, I also brought along another my other friend for her second event experience, introduce her more into our crazy fandom family. The event itself was very busy, the aisles were continuously packed with people walking around and most of the exhibitor stalls were busy with costumers which was very nice to see, in fact the few I spoke to said it was a very successful day for them. I managed to avoid buying anything from the exhibitors for almost the entire day, until right before I was leaving and an Agents of SHIELD poster caught my attention⌠so that came home with me!
I only attended one panel for the weekend and even that we only saw half of, it was the Stargate Atlantis panel with Rachel and Paul. At the end of the panel though Paul auctioned off some of his scripts from the show and my friend actually won one, she jumped in with a bid at the last minute and snatched it up! After the panel we walked to the stage so she could organise payment for the item and got to have a bit of a chat with them both too. In seeing Rachel she had a look on her face that she remembered me so I said âNice to see you again Rachel, I canât believe itâs been ten years since last timeâ she then came over and gave me a big hug and we continued to chat for a bit. A fellow fan and costumer asked me for a photo with them and when posing Paul decided to sneak into the back of the photo so that was a bit of fun.
I decided as it was my first time meeting him and I was in costume that I would get a photo with Robert Patrick. I brought my token and queued up like everyone else, when it came to my turn to get the photo it was found I had only been given an Autograph token not a Photo so I had to rush back to get it changed, I have to admit in this instant the staff were initially unhelpful and would not process the changeover even though I stated the photos were happening now and I was in a hurry, eventually I managed to find a staff member I knew and they very swiftly handled the problem and sorted out my token so thanks so much to them â this was the only real problem I had with staff over the weekend that and the queues around photographs was rather confusing. In the end though I got my photo and a hug from Robert so I was happy.
Overall Saturday was a great day, it was awesome catching up and seeing friends it was just so much fun. I also have to comment on just how much I love being a part of this amazing community that is fandom and convention attending⌠As my friend and I sat down having some food we were watching the people around us and I loved seeing how diverse it was, there were people from all ages and races, it was especially beautiful to see a couple in the 70s walking around together in costume, this community has just such an amazing impact on people from all walks of life and I am so extremely proud to be a part of it, it is truly amazing!
Then it was time for the Sunday, I always prefer to attend events on the Sunday because it is always the quieter of the two days and as the show winds down in the afternoon thereâs more chance of getting to talk to the actors when thereâs no queues. I plan for the day was just to hang around with other friends and catch up so that is what I did, although after a conversation with Paul the previous day I did decide that I needed to get a photo with him, and then decided to get a ten years on photo with Rachel too.
When getting my photo with Paul I walked in and asked him if he was going to do what he promised the day before which was to give me a piggy back and he was like âYes yes definitelyâ and then started stretching, but it was amazing⌠I have given actors piggybacks before but never had one myself so this was a pretty awesome opportunity and thanks so much to Paul he was amazing⌠we threw up peace signs and the photo was over. Then it was time for Rachelâs, she gave me a hug as I entered and then I asked her to pull a funny face with me!

I also decided to get an autograph from both Paul and Robert, so I waited until later in the afternoon as things quietened down and then got them. When lining up for Robert I got to reconnect with someone I had met at a convention years before, and it was a lot of fun to have a good chat and catch up. I had Robert autograph my Stargate shirt, my shirt that has been going 11 years strong thankfully Robert was able to find some room and signed a pocket he then asked where some other actorâs autos were on it and I pointed them out. The person getting an Autograph after me had a car bonnet which an absolutely amazing airbrush painting of Robert on it, it was really interesting to see the reactions from the actors upon seeing this impression piece of art that Robert then autographed.
Afterwards I got Paul to autograph the photo I had with him, which turned out fantastic, Paul even made a comment that it was his favourite photo from the weekend so far and given I was one of the last autographs he gave that was saying something, but it is a pretty awesome photo! After that done I managed to catch Rachel before she left to show her the photo of us together, had the chance to chat to some of the other guests as well before they left which was good. Before the event finished I decided to make one final purchase and paid the amazing Jason Palmerâs stall another visit and brought myself an Agent May and Agent Carter print!
Managed to catch John Barrowman on stage after his panel where managed to take a few photos and see just how impressive Johnâs Tim Tam Jenga tower was and although I personally didnât actually get to meet John this weekend he is definitely a crowd pleaser and adores his fans. Overall the weekend was a really good experience and Iâm glad I went, I have some more photos to remind me of the awesomeness and itâs always so great to hang with mates and other like-minded people, as I said I am so proud to be involved in such a beautiful, friendly and diverse community.

This is the first blog post, in a collection of my Convention Experience posts I want to share my experiences with others so they know how much fun conventions can be so hereâs a post about my first ever event.
In 2005 I attended my very first convention the guests in attendance were Rainbow Sun Francks, Torri Higginson and Alexis Cruz. This was my first event and so a few friends and I decided we would spoil ourselves so we brought VIP tickets which included a dinner with the guests the night before and what an experience and great way to start. The guests were all lovely they spoke about their time in New Zealand the weekend before, talked about acting and just other general conversations. Alexis Cruz loved hugging everyone, Torri wanted to come play laser tag with us after the Con (they went to Phillip Island instead though), after the dinner Rainbow stayed at the bar and we kept chatting he told us about his name and the meaning behind it, he gave a friend and I an American One Dollar note each after we commented on how strange the money was compared to ours, I still have the note! Once Rainbow left a group of us still left behind went into the city for some karaoke before heading off for sleep to prepare for the following day.
Dressed in a pretty basic Stargate costume I was ready for my first ever actual con, was great meeting other fans and like-minded people. I met so many new friends that day, oneâs that I still call friends over ten years later. There were only few dressed in costumes, there was my friend and I in our basic SG-1 costumes, another in a Stargate Atlantis uniform (with an Australian patch) and someone who had made a fantastic Steve the Wraith costume, both of these people I class as some of my best friends now. The event was great we got photos with the guests, listened to them as they did panels and answered questions, we also started a tradition with our first con were we gave the guests Vegemite and had them taste it on Stage, Rainbow left calling us evil and that became our thing⌠we were then known as the âEvil Vegemite Girlsâ
Torri loved our costumes and so when we were getting our autographs she asked us if we would hang around until after theyâd finished so she could take some photos of us. I decided to not only get my photo with them autographed but also my costume shirt as a memento and this started another tradition for me. Rainbow does amazing autographs theyâre pieces of art in their own but they do take him a bit longer so we sat there for ages chatting and having a good time as we waited so Torri could get her photograph, it was fun being there until the end as we managed to be lucky enough to get to say goodbye to the guests as they left and got hugs from them, especially Alexis.

On weekend just past I attended an event in Melbourne called Supanova, itâs one of three main Expoâs that run in Melbourne yearly. This year I was only able to attend the Sunday of the event, I also got to bring along a friend who had never attended an event of this kind before so it was fun being able to do it with someone knew.
Firstly my main reason for coming to this event was to catch up with friends, and introduce my other friend into the scene. Even though they had a decent guest line-up there were none that I was particular interested in meeting or getting photos or autographs with so this year was fairly basic, just walking around checking out the show, exhibitors stalls and chatting with friends.
Having been attending conventions for over a decade I have watched them change and evolve over the years, I must admit that there were a few things about Supanova that were a bit disappointing. For starters the jump in price for entrance seemed a bit ridiculous, most events such as this have an entry price of $25-$30 for a one day pass, this year Supanova were charging $32 online and $40 at the door, last year I brought a ticket at the door and it was only $35 which at the time I thought was a bit expensive, but itâs the first event of the year in Melbourne and some price increases are expected but $5 up from the previous year and last year they had guests such as Christopher Lloyd, George Takei and Nichelle Nichols⌠This year there were no big name guests like that, least none that I had heard off which of course comes down to what I like to watch etc⌠but I still felt that seemed like a big jump in price in comparison.
Other than that, and having been disappointed in Supanovaâs lack of organisation last year where we missed getting our Christopher Lloyd photos printed in time to get autographed Iâd say that the organisation seemed a bit better this year. The same as last year they keep the Autograph and Photos section separate to the exhibitors areas, I feel as though this would take traffic away from people looking through exhibitors stalls but it is a system that appears to work for them and they keep doing it that way. The lines seemed to be moving fairly quickly and we thankfully got through the doors at the start of the day quickly it helped that we turned up after the place had opened so there wasnât as big of a queue and we had pre-purchased our tickets online.
As always there were some fantastic costumes to be seen and panels to attend although I didnât get the chance to see any myself, we did enjoy our time walking around the exhibitor hall and seeing what was available to purchase and also for me catching up with different mates who were either walking around as well or working an exhibitor stall.
Overall it was a pretty good day, other than the entry price there wasnât really anything to complain about. Then again I did not need to get any autographs or photos and that is the part where the queuing and token purchasing really come into it. Looking forward to seeing what the next Melbourne event has to offer.
