Tips for Writing Emotional Breakdowns
✧ Crying isn’t pretty. It’s snot, blotchy faces, gasping for air, and red-rimmed eyes. Forget the single tear rolling down like in Hollywood.
✧ Anger often hides hurt. People lash out, slam doors, shout, not always because they’re just mad, but because they’re covering up fear or pain.
✧ Shaking is common. Stress dumps adrenaline into the system. Hands tremble, voices break, knees won’t stay steady.
✧ People go quiet, too. Not all breakdowns are screaming and sobbing. Some are dead silence, staring off, numb responses. Equally devastating.
✧ Exhaustion hits after. The “post-breakdown crash” is real ... headaches, sore eyes, complete emotional hangover. They’ll want to sleep for hours.
✧ Words get messy. Rambling, repeating the same sentence, stuttering, saying things they don’t mean. Emotions trip over themselves on the way out.
✧ Breathing changes. Short, shallow breaths, hiccupping gasps, or holding their breath without realizing. Sometimes it even feels like they’re choking.
✧ Embarrassment creeps in. Once the wave passes, a lot of people feel ashamed, apologizing or avoiding eye contact. Vulnerability often leaves guilt in its wake.
✧ Physical pain shows up. Tight chest, stomach aches, tension headaches. Because emotions don’t just stay in the mind , the body carries them too.
Tips for Writing Injuries
✧ Broken ribs suck. You don’t just “walk it off.” Breathing hurts. Laughing hurts. Existing hurts. Characters with rib injuries won’t be doing heroic sprints.
✧ Concussions aren’t instant naps. Dazed vision, nausea, dizziness, maybe even personality changes, but they’re not going to collapse neatly like in the movies.
✧ Blood loss is sneaky. It’s not just about dramatic pools of blood. It’s dizziness, confusion, and the body getting cold as circulation tanks.
✧ Adrenaline lies. Someone can take a serious injury and not feel it until the fight’s over. That “I didn’t realize I was bleeding until later” trope? Very real.
✧ Twisted ankles are brutal. One bad step and suddenly running is off the table. Even walking hurts like hell. Perfect way to ground a chase scene.
✧ Burns linger. Even small burns hurt more than most people expect. Blisters, infection risk, constant pain, it’s not just a cool scar later.
✧ Dislocated shoulders = useless arm. Characters can’t keep swinging a sword or firing a gun. They’re basically fighting one-armed until it’s fixed.
✧ Shock is a thing. Pale skin, trembling, rapid heartbeat, and eventually disorientation. A character might not even realize how bad their wound is.
✧ Stitches aren’t magic. Getting sewn up is painful and recovery takes time. They’re not instantly battle-ready after a needle and thread.
✧ Scars tell stories. Some fade, some don’t. Some stay sensitive forever. Don’t forget the aftermath when the wound becomes part of the character.

i'll even pirate free things. you wouldn't understand
In the town where I grew up, there was a large statue in one of the parks, of a famous historical white colonizer. I'm not going to say who specifically, suffice it to say that it was someone who wasn't worth memorializing for their deeds. And as you can imagine, this statue was a frequent target of vandalism, with paint or toilet paper or eggs on multiple occasions. Now, the local council was generally pretty lax when it came to repairing potholes or other public damage in the town, but every time, 24 hours after this particular statue was hit, the same person would always appear in a Hi-Vis vest, hat, mask and sunglasses, carrying a bucket of water, and wash it clean. They would do it as quickly as possible, but always made sure the face and the name carved at the bottom were generously scrubbed. This only encouraged people to do it again, and so it became a vicious cycle.
Within a year, the statue had sustained so much damage that it was unrecognizable and the lettering unreadable, so eventually the council came and took it down. Also apparently, the person in the Hi-Vis vest didn't even work for the council. They were supposedly just some 'good samaritan' who cleaned it, often before the council even discovered it needed cleaning, so they just let them do it and ignored the problem. They didn't bother putting the statue up again.
Much later, we found out that the anonymous 'samaritan' had been deliberately washing the statue with a bucket of saltwater, which had dramatically corroded it, causing irreversible accumulative damage far worse than spray paint ever would have done. It's even theorized that they were also often the one spray-painting it, just so that they had an excuse to come back after a day to wash it.

*develops a crush on you. but like. evilly, of course.*
One of my favourite pop culture useless pieces of information that I know is the fact that trends in horror movies can tell you about the general fears of the world at any given time in cinematic history.
Sorta!
1940s - You have people still alive that remember Jack the Ripper, you have the Axeman of New Orleans and two world wars. The classics are being made for shock escapism and dark stalkers are also popular (usually trusting people turning out to be the enemy).
1950s - post-nuclear bomb. Giant monsters, or unknown blobs are the trend.
1970s/1980s - modern era begins, and serial killers are becoming known and prominent. Slasher films are the trend. The Cold War also drives the fear of invasion, so a few alien films come out in this time.
1990s - a horror movie lull, and lull in wars and disturbances.
2000s - fear of invasions and biological warfare. Zombie movies become the trend.
Here you go! It’s just a random article, but it’s a fun starting point. It outlines the ideas better than what I did above. Fears, politics etc all play a role.
Film has always been a reflection of our society. When world events occur or certain beliefs become widespread, they naturally shape our per
I literally did a 100k PhD thesis on this. I can recommend you a different scholarly book for every decade of American horror.

Zombie movies are all about class conflict. I mean, these people will literally not stay in their place.

Important ideas to consider when creating characters who are black and indigenous people of color. (x)
you people really need to rethink what you think is punk rock
i'll bet everything i have that NOBODY on tumblr actually cares about punk rock, or what it's about. you all only care about it because it's trendy and fashionable. you think if you put on a flannel skirt and platform boots, you're punk rock. and the people who reblog your selfies think thin people in edgy clothes is punk rock. that's NOT what it's about! punk rock is not limited to chokers and kurt cobain! punk rock is about sticking it to the man, refusing to conform to a society that wants to turn you into a corporate slave to profit off of you as a human! THEY DON'T EVEN SEE YOU AS HUMAN! punk rock is about getting PISSED OFF and letting everyone KNOW you're pissed off, and STICKING IT TO THE MAN!!!!! and over the years it's just been reduced to a fashion trend and a handful of half-assed songs because the genre is 'trendy!'
RETHINK YOUR IDEALS!!! RETHINK WHAT YOU CONSIDER PUNK ROCK!!! CAPITALISM HAS TURNED PUNK ROCK FROM A FORM OF REBELLION AND LASHING OUT AGAINST CORPORATE GREED AND THE SYSTEM, TO AN AISLE OF RIPPED CLOTHING SOLD TO YOU BY THE VERY COMPANIES THEY WERE PISSED OFF ABOUT!!! DON'T LET THEM BRAINWASH YOU INTO GIVING INTO THEM AND FEEDING THE FAT CATS WORKING THEIR EMPLOYEES TO DEATH AND SEEING THEM AS WORKER BEES INSTEAD OF HUMAN PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! THEY'RE BURNING THE AMAZON, POLLUTING YOUR AIR AND WATER, AND KILLING THE EARTH! DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THAT AND SUBDUE YOU INTO FORGETTING WHAT PUNK ROCK IS! THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND YES YOU CAN REBLOG THIS! YOU SHOULD REBLOG THIS!!!!!
Yes!!!
I have no clue how this ended up on my feed but I guess I’m obligated to reblog
