“I feel it in my work as a teacher, where I recognize that we are so close — so, so close — to a world where teaching looks like AI-generating lesson plans and delivering those lesson plans using AI-generated slides, and then assessing the skills of those lessons using AI-generated tests, and then grading those tests using a form of AI. The content of AI producing student work that is then fed back to AI for AI to assess. And for what? And at what cost? It pains me. It pains me deeply. And then I sit down and I read about clams. And it’s not just that I am reading about clams. It’s that I am reading the perspective of someone who thought that it was worth paying attention to clams. There. Remind me again why we read? I think that’s part of it. You pick up a book and someone has you by the arm. There, they are saying, look over there. They are pointing now. They are holding something in their hand. Little clam in the palm, refusing to open. Look at that thing that loves being alive, how it resists the same sun we turn our cheek towards. Crazy world, beautiful place. Down in the deep somewhere, a clam smaller than my hand is withstanding the pressure of a few dozen full-size trains just hanging out on top of its body.”

IM SO HYPED YALL DONT UNDERSTAND

THE PAPER ―"The Five W's"
one thing that really stands out when rewatching sinners is how the characters almost KNOW that they're in a horror movie without knowing. so much of the buildup of the party and the interpersonal drama gets downplayed by the final act and the bloodshed but before they know about the vampires, they're planning and fighting and building and it all gets wiped to ashes by the attack. and it's such a clean metaphor for the way black communities were and are destroyed by white machinations that never even considered the intricacies of the lives being lived. god I actually cannot get over how much time this movie spends on detailing lives that we the audience know are under distinct attack. and the characters live their lives with this ever present threat of violence, but they're still dreaming and scheming and arguing and threatening each other. idk maybe it's because I don't watch tons of horror movies but I've never seen a movie spend so much time on the immediate plans of people we all know are about to die.its not like "one day I wanna go to college 😃" it's like "tomorrow we're going to the store" and "I will be beating your ass in the morning" and only one person survives that sunrise. and the audience is screaming oh my god there's vampires outside and the characters are saying there's always vampires outside.

March 1991. ‘The prom. At first it’s so tame… You wearing your most devastating dress and your best “ladylike” attitude. But suddenly, somewhere ‘round midnight, it seems like anything can happen.’
