Personality: He may come off a little quiet and shy at first, but once Aoora gets to know a person and he’s comfortable with them, he’s bright and upbeat. He doesn’t like thinking about what he’s lost and is determined to keep a positive attitude about everything. And, for the most part, it works. The only problem is when a day comes that he can’t handle everything, and his world crashes down upon him. Those are the days that he recluses, hiding himself away in his music, his only constant companion. For the most part, however, he’s a true sweetheart, always one to offer a cheerful word or smile.

Background: Aoora’s life has been hard. It has been hard, and that hardness is all Aoora has ever known. After losing both parents and his older and younger brothers to a fire that someone had set in their home, Aoora was bounced from relative to relative for eighteen months before finally being cast into the fostercare system. He went through six houses and families before settling into one that he felt could become home, but even then, the happiness did not last. When Aoora was seventeen, after a disasterous trip to the hospital, he slipped from the system and began making his way in the world. Aoora was twenty-two when he enrolled in the university-like school that would change his life again -- for the better and worse. Not even a year later, just before the school closed, Aoora fled in search of a safer place.

His cheeks no longer hold that same guantness they had before, and one can no longer count his ribs like one might a xylophone, but Jaehyun is still pitifully thin, and he is often seen with more than a few bruises. He has no tattoos and the lobes of each ear are pierced once. As far as clothing goes, when Jaemi isn’t dressing him, Jaehyun prefers loose-fitting jeans, loose-fitting t-shirts, and hoodies or jackets. It was a habit of his, one used to hide his underweight body wen he was still going through chemotherapy, and old habits die hard.

Occupation: modeling, occasional street music performance, and the occasional odd job

Personality: By definition, Jaehyun is wide eyes, inexcusable curiosity, and beaming smiles. Despite the hellish hand he has been dealt in life, Jaehyun chooses optimism and hope, always believing that one way or another, he’ll survive one more day so he can keep doing what he loves -- living. It’s a fractured belief, of course, because he knows better, but Jaehyun trusts in the power of a positive mentality, and because he has proved the doctors and tests wrong, he’s going to hold fast to his belief. He’s naturally curious, seeking out information and storing it without pause, always reading and looking and searching for more. Although he doesn’t like admiting it, Jaehyun is more than a little terrified. He knows himself, knows his health, and he knows it’s failing, but he can’t allow himself to sit out on the sidelines to die, not when he wants to live every single moment as fully and loud as he can.

Background: The way that Jaehyun sees things, his heart is missing screws and he himself is living on borrowed time. Born with a weak heart, Jaehyun was told that he would always be a weak, helpless child, assuming he even survived his first birthday. He did, of course, survive, and though Jaehyun was consistently sick through his childhood, he continued to grow stronger and flourish up until just before his thirteenth birthday when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. At that moment, questions and insecurities that Jaehyun had kept secret for years fell into the open and into place. For two years he fought, undergoing chemotherapy sessions and other therapies until, finally, he could claim that he was in remission. His happiness lasted up until shortly before he turned seventeen. Two years after the remission began, Jaehyun had a relapse, and the fight resumed. When Jaehyun was twenty, he went into remission for a second time. The doctors told him that his body was reaching a breaking point, and that with his health as poor as it was, he would be lucky to live another year. If the leukemia returned, he wouldn’t survive more than three months, because chemotherapy, at that point, was no longer a viable option. His health held, for the most part, and Jaehyun worked through their year and then some. Now his health is deteriorating again, and with the awareness that any day may be his last, Jaehyun is living large, living free, and enjoying every minute of it.

Hair: varies in color; currently black, kept in a boyish cut and tousled Eyes: varies by mood; often a bright blue or a warm brown Height: 166cm Weight: 57kg Appearance: Kit is thin, small, scrawny. She’s a scrap of a girl, one that is just as average height and just below average weight. Her body is lithe and wiry, muscle thin and tight to her bones. Her appearance is one that changes almost as will, hair and eyes both dictated by mood and her power as a graveling. More often than not, when she deigns to be human (which is quite often now that Hongbin has settled down), she is pale and wears her hair a little longer than a male might, color dark and eyes just as dark. She is supposed to blend, after all. Her earlobes, both left and right, are pierced, and varying by mood (and her desire to attract attention) they may be gauged or simply pierced. She has one tattoo along the side of right hand, trailing from the end of her pinky to the butt of her palm. Like Hongbin’s wrist tattoo, Kit’s palm tattoo is most often that of a place and time, the place and time she needs to be to keep death in balance at any given point in the day. Her tattoo is always linked to Hongbin’s. Unlike his, however, her tattoo has no solid cover phrase. She claims she got the tattoo because the characters were pretty, and that’s all she’ll say on the matter.

Occupation: graveling (keeps life and death in balance), waitress at Hongbin’s tea shop

Personality: Kit is loud and intelligent, a startling combination that knocks most off guard. Her gender is generally a cause of confusion when she’s meeting a new person, and she takes an almost cruel delight in failing to correct someone when they guess wrong, always wanting to wait and see how long it takes for them to correct themselves. Although trouble isn’t her game, it follows her -- or she attracts it -- and Kit is generally found getting into mischief in some manner or another at least once a day, usually by Hongbin or one of the tea shop’s regulars.

Background: As far as Kit knows, she has always existed. Unlike reapers, whose jobs are awarded to them, gravelings simply are. One moment they are not there, and the next they are, birthed by necessity and a lack of balance. Kit’s first memory is of Hongbin, of a demure smile and a warm hand on the downy fluff of her hair, so despite how the two of them may argue, Kit is loyal to a fault when it comes to Hongbin, and she loves him like many humans love their siblings or parents.

Hair: varies in color; currently near black, kept short and often styled messily Eyes: light brown, flashes an almost fluorescent blue when he is using any of reaper powers or is pulling/reaping a soul Height: 181cm Weight: 62kg Appearance: Tall and slender, and perhaps even a little ungainly with his long limbs. His skin is rather pale, but tans easily when he spends enough time in the sunlight. When smiling (a rare occurrence), there is the slightest of dimples in his cheeks. More often than not, Hongbin wears comfortable, loose jeans and some sort of long-sleeved shirt or hoodie. The sleeves make it easier to hide the tattoo on his arm. Hongbin does have three tattoos, though one of them doesn’t always appear, and a second one changes as necessary. The first is a scythe, one that loops around his left ring finger from where it joins the hand until it hits his knuckle. On his left arm, usually located from wrist to elbow, is a list of the names (and times) of the souls he needs to reap. More often than not, especially as of late, this area is empty or has only a single name listed. For appearances sake, the name and time read as one of Hongbin’s favorite quotes “The journey itself is my home” by Matsuo Bashō, but to other reapers, it reads as it should unless Hongbin drops its guise. The third tattoo is an ever-changing set, one that takes the form of a flock of birds trailing along his right arm from elbow to wrist. Each bird represents a single soul remaining unreaped and in his care.

Occupation: reaper; owner of the tea shop Hot Times

Personality: Hongbin is generally a quiet, no-nonsense individual, one that prefers to spend his time sitting somewhere sunny and warm with a book in hand. For all of the years he’s spent alive, Hongbin possesses a vast intellect, and as a result he has opinions for almost any topic that can be unearthed, but he often chooses to remain silent on the topics because of how difficult it can be to explain how he knows so much.

Background: The life of a reaper is one that is awarded, sometimes more accidentally than others. Before you are a reaper, you were a human, but as far back as Hongbin can remember, he’s always been the reaper, the one with a comforting smile and the death scythe and scroll. Always. As far as he is concerned, that is all he needs to remember.
