Celine could not help but blink, being taken back by just how...well the spirit had accepted her confession. “I must admit...I wasn’t expecting that to be your answer. You seem to be taking it quite well...” admitted the medium as she stood up to meet the spirit halfway. “I am Celine...by the way...Celine Tremont.”
Nodding nonchalantly to the inquiry of hell hounds existing, Celine took another sip of her drink as she set the cup down. “I don’t know the full details of hell hounds...but they are like reapers, sent to collect souls that are lingering to escort them to the world beyond. I can say that much at least,” she explained, taking a bite of her sandwich as well. “I have met one that while difficult to interact with...takes their job very seriously...more than I think others of my ‘field’ do,” she spoke gently, reflecting on her last conversation with Kieran.
“I would imagine they would...every spirit and ghost I have met has always had a reason to stay...something they valued dearly. But...spirits who wait to pass on and don’t have a real reason to...would be caught by hell hounds. I would imagine the exchange could potentially unpleasant depending on how the one who had departed handles it,” elaborated Celine more with a sip of her drink. “But...that is another department.”
The medium had already gotten herself settled in her chair at the table, running her fingers through the white portion of her brown hair before smiling and thanking Ames for delivering her food. Taking a sip of her drink to start, Celine smiled sadly again to the mention of what it really was like talking to dead people. “Most people when they die, are spirits...but not ghosts,” began Celine as she took a small bite of her sandwich, taking the extra time to formulate a good explanation. “We as living beings...mundane or otherwise...are made of energy. That energy carries with us to the afterlife and depending on where that energy is stored, it can determine whether or not a spirit lingers behind in the world of the living or if we pass on. Spirits usually with unfinished business linger.”

Celine nodded with the mention the young woman could always return to the counter if some other customers came in, the medium gestured with her hand holding the empty cup where she would be sitting. “There sound good?” she hinted, already starting to walk.
Celine smiled a little sadly to the mention of how cool it must have sounded. Parting her lips to speak, the medium glanced behind her in case she was holding up a line before glancing at the seats. “Um...well I could elaborate further if you have time but...I don’t know if you have a break coming up. I wouldn’t want to disturb you while you worked,” cooed the medium gently. “I plan to sit in here while eating...I could go over in detail more if you wished to listen.”
A small chuckle escaped Celine’s lips to the mention of reading palms or tarots or anything of that nature. If only it were that simple...that easy. “Actually no. I...um...I speak with the dead,” elaborated the young woman with a soft wave of the hand. “I know it’s not the most light-hearted of subjects but...I can communicate with spirits.”
The medium took the leftover change before grabbing the cup with her free hand, smiling to the mention that she was a recent resident. “Well, welcome to Sunnybrooke. I’m Celine Tremont, the town’s medium. And you are?” she introduced warmly.
“Drink and chips sounds great. Let’s add those too,” smiled Celine as she finally grabbed some cash from her wallet to hold out to the woman behind the counter. “I have never seen you before. Are you new to Sunnybrooke?” she inquired curiously.

It took Celine a moment to register the voice addressing her from behind the counter, her sapphire eyes glancing up towards the woman with long dark brown hair asking if she needed more time to think. “Uh no. No no I...I think I’ll just have the special for today if possible,” answered the medium with a forced smile, reaching into her purse to grab her wallet for the appropriate amount of cash. Even in the middle of a restaurant she couldn’t get the current situation with the spirits off her mind...or the guilt affiliated with the knowledge she helped cause the mess to begin with.

Celine’s ears picked up on the words from the woman beside her, her features softening to the all too familiar feeling. That gnawing feeling of wishing you had a better draw from the pot as to what kind of supernatural gifts you could be...a poison that was easier to swallow. Taking a moment to think, a small smile curled up on her lips as she turned to face the stranger and offered her hand in greeting. “Celine Tremont, Sunnybrooke medium who speaks to the dead,” she introduced light-heartedly to try and help the other woman feel a little better.

Celine’s features saddened a little to see the ghostly hand of the young man pass right through hers, verifying he was indeed a spirit. Upon the small list of questions, the medium defeatedly lowered her hand, looking down in shame towards the ground. “The door between the world of the living and the world of the dead was opened...and it’s stuck,” elaborated Celine, remembering the night she had found Kieran as he explained just how serious the situation was for not just him but everyone. “Spirits like you, no matter how they have passed, have been thrown back into the world of the living, forced to walk in a familiar yet foreign world. As fate would have it, the door was forced open as lightning came down on a circle...I was performing.” The medium glanced back up towards the young man with heartbroken eyes.
“It was not intentional...and I am nowhere near a strong enough medium to do such things...but...I helped to play a part in all of you being trapped here...” confessed the woman.

“No no wait!” assured Celine, extending out a hand to assure the young man that he was not being a bother at all. “It’s alright. You don’t need to go,” she cooed, returning her hand to her lap. “We haven’t met before I don’t think...but I am Sunnybrooke’s medium. I speak with those who have departed from the world of the living. So you may have...’felt my presence’ so to speak around the area from the other side,” suggested the woman before pondering on an idea. “Why don’t we see then if you are a ghost, huh? Let’s try something simple to verify. Try to touch my hand,” she suggested, extending the same hand she used to urge him to stay towards the young man.

“That’s...a little more complicated of an answer,” confessed Celine as she watched some of the spirits wander aimlessly, trying to make sense of the moving beings of Sunnybrooke walking past or even right through them, completely unaware of their existence. A heavy sigh escaped the medium’s lips as she leaned back against the back of the bench, the fact they were wandering because of her and Kara still weighing heavy on her mind.
“Spirits are not too different from us, despite what most people think...” started Celine. “They have energy. But most times, they reserve it. Keeping it locked away until they feel the need to explore, if they ever get that feeling. The spirits with the most energy...can see us...talk to us...and even physically appear. But...they have to master that talent. It is incredibly draining for them...”

thexclairvoyant:
Ghosts.
Ghosts everywhere. Not the occasional one by the park. Not the one that would linger around her home. Not even the ones at the cemetery.
They. Were. Everywhere.
The medium sat there in confusion in the middle of the city, taking a seat just outside of the library as her eyes glanced up to see the souls of those who were lost aimlessly wandering throughout the streets with none of the other citizens of Sunnybrooke noticing. Her fingers combed through her semi white hair nervously, picking at the ends as thoughts raced through her mind.
Celine didn’t know how it happened or why but while trying to speak with Marigold with Kara’s help, a door opened. No, opened was too polite. It burst open like flood gates, spirits pouring out into the world of the living as the medium was left pondering how she could help those souls return to the afterlife…if that was even possible.
In the midst of her thoughts, she did not hear the figure approaching her from behind.
Jamie didn’t know why he approached the woman sitting on the bench outside what looked like a library. Something about her just seemed familiar. It was a strange feeling, not quite familiar in the sense that he’d seen her before, but a weird sense that he’d felt her before. He had no idea what that meant or what to make of it, but it was compelling enough for him to step forward and clear his throat a bit awkwardly before giving a quiet, “um, hi?”
A quiet voice immediately pulled Celine out of her daze, jade eyes locking on to a young man with short mousey hair, somewhat tussled as if he just rolled out of bed. He was not someone she had seen before and newcomers to Sunnybrooke were immediate to spot most of the time. But she had never seen him.
"Hi," she greeted softly, hands lowering from her ombre hair to settle on her lap. "Can I help you?" she cooed.

Celine’s eyes did not turn away from the spirits walking through the city in a daze, a frown creasing her lips in deep thought, not really registering who sat down beside her as her fingers kept grooming through her semi-white hair.
“Lost souls...” confessed the medium as she kept her gaze fixated straight ahead of her. “People who had passed on from this world who are now trapped in limbo yet again, disturbed from their slumber...” she spoke gently as her gaze fell to the floor before glancing up to the woman beside her. “Individually though I don’t know them, no,” she confirmed softly.
