Don't you just feel like

we can count how many flowers we have, but i fear we're missing the point.

you looked around at my mess & declared it an artist's room; you kissed me & asked for permission & I said yes (& yes & yes & yes) I soaked in your sweat, my thighs sore & held & after, we watched our shadows, people in silhouette. you looked around at my mess & made me feel seen, and in a light cast from such a change in angle that I didn't recognise myself: I saw a normal person, flesh & blood & imperfect but fine, not a grotesque masquerading as a person. you looked at me, & you made me feel like I was enough.

I don't feel like a woman. a jellyfish, maybe, an undulating glob of spirit so amorphous that its edges blur with the ether. Not a woman, but perhaps a tree, wood strong but pliable, quietly protective. I don't know. Maybe I'm fire, I could blaze hot and unapologetically and burn your fingers when you think about touching me. I don't feel like a woman; a gossamer sheet, wads of tulle, silk georgette. I cannot be defined in a word-- just a feeling.

my unfilled wineglass rolled off the bed and shattered, and I to follow suit. with a broom I picked up the pieces, red in the face but unashamed. you stumbled on your way in to my bedroom, a little wine-hazy but mostly just blind in the dark.
